Is this the worst day of your United supporting life? (Every cloud has a silver lining)

Probably.

I don't see us challenging for a long time despite getting some hope from our good run last season.

We look as bad as ever. Woodward is still here. Glazers are still here.

We do have some good players though, but eh.

Seeing us relegated in 1974 was my worst moment.

Results like this always feel bad at the time, but they happen now and again. The worry with this one is that it feels as if the group that was doing so well after the restart has run out of steam. In that respect it's more concerning than the 6-1 defeat by City, which, as Patrice Evra was saying, was just the team going for broke when they'd gone 3-1 down and the risk didn't pay off.

Getting relegated in 1974 was painful, but it had been coming for a couple of seasons, so that was a kind of buffer.
Number 1 has to go to that Aquero moment. Correct me if I'm wrong but i think City went into added time 2-1 down. I was getting ready to celebrate with my son down the pub, and then BANG! it was taken away in an instant.

Liverpool result was the best thing that could happen to the club after that result against spurs.

Absolutely consumes any dumpster fire and helps any purported internal issues after the game get resolved.
Was just about the only way to get the heat off the club for a few hours.

Definatly not!

Too many knee jerk reactions.

Too many people with personal agendas.

We have lost heavily before and will loose heavily again.

As others have said, the ones that hurt the most are the ones that have something big to play for.

Loosing the 3rd match of the season at home without fans is not one to be classed as "worst day of supporting United"

Seeing us get beaten today hurt me because it was a stark reminder that regardless of who we sign tomorrow we will still have the same owners and an incompetent CEO and it’s been years since the Aguero moment.

It was really not that difficult to guess. At the time, this forum was flooded with people complaining about the Glazers and predicting they would run the club into the ground. Actually, some of the predictions were far worse than what actually happened in the last ten years, there were people predicting administration/relegation.

The reason why that transfer window was so important to me and a lot of people is that it became clear that something was not right as you don't sell the best player in the world for a record fee and then spend less than a third of that amount on new signings. Not if you want to compete for the Champions League, anyway.

The amount of years doesn't matter. The question was "Is this the worst day of your United supporting life?"
Everyone is different. I will forget today pretty quickly, but God i will never forget that day.

I'm definitely at an all time low with the club. Doesn't really have anything to do with this match. We lost ugly to palace, and prob should have lost to Brighton, both shit. We all knew we'd get smashed against a quality side with the state our club is in. This match was just an exclamation point. We are rubble.

I was kind of wry about it before, now having seen pool get smashed it just seems like another day in 2020. My humour may dissipate if we don’t put in a performance of the ages in our next game though. Not a single person on that pitch today, with the exception of maybe Mason and Rashford, can be anything other than utterly ashamed of themselves.

Nah, not a chance. Don't get me wrong, that is a fecking awful result, but it's not like the team is in a good place right now. It's a thrashing that was deserved but exacerbated by the unfair red card situation.

The 1-6 vs City was far worse. That was the beginning of the realisation that city were here to stay. That aguero moment too - heartbreaking. Those are for me the lowest lows in recent times.

We are in a fecking dismal state right now though I have to admit.

Not at all. I expect mediocrity from us now.

6-1 to city was awful as was losing 2 CL finals to Barcelona. We were a real side then - not the shit show that rolls out for us today.

Losing to City with the Denis Law backheel was the worst. This is nothing compared to that.

Aguero, Rome Champions League final and 6-1 were all worse for me.

In fact the Everton 4-0 was probably worse at the time than today. I think a lot of today was down to the sending off. The players completely lost their heads, and I thought we were actually looking decent on the ball up to the sending off, for the first time this season.

Well this has depressed the shit out of me before bed, nice one lads.

The relegation was just before my time but theres been a few since. I was at Maine Road for the 5-1 and that was grim but think the 1-6 v city was worse than today, just. Couldn't see that result coming but unfortunately todays shitshow has been coming for a couple of weeks.
1-4 to QPR has to have a mention too.

We are forgetting the elephant in the room. This is a strange premiere league...no proper break..no preseason..NO FANS..
Each game looks like a training session with very little motivation. It is possible this season one of the lower clubs would do a Leicester.

Not by a long shot. 1-6 for the noisy neighbour was far worse. No covid craziness, just the cruel exposition of the fact that rather than being on our way to the best ever, we were really on our way down. 1-6 at home was unheard of and unthinkable back then unless we met the Arse.nal. This week City loses 2-5 at home and Liverpool 2-7 to Villa. It’s semi-normal.

Far worse was also losing 1-0 to bottom club Crystal Palace, or 6-0 to Ipswich, under Dreary Dave Sexton in the eighties, even if we did end up at eigth after a dreary run of 1-0 wins in spring. And going out to fourth division Bournemouth 2-0 in the FA cup back when it meant something. Losing 2-3 from leading twice in two home games against Southampton and Forest was when I was convinced Atkinson would never reach the top couple of places. And there’s a bunch to choose from under Sir Alex. Losing without scoring (again)at home to go into the relegation zone in Autumn of 88 or 89. Losing 4-0 to Barca when I thought we were finally going to challenge. Getting smashed by Villa 3-0 at the break in the first game of the ‘you’ll never win the league with kids’ season. Losing 3-6 to Southampton and 0-5 to Newcastle followed by 1-2 at home to Fenrbahce I think it was in 96. 0-3 at home to third level York in the league cup with half our first team present, right after being knocked out of Europe by Rotor Volgograd. 1-4 at home to Liverpool in a two horse race for the league. Most of the games under Moyes, a third of the games under Van Gaal and half the games under Mourinho. Those final six months of Self-destructive Mourinho was probably my lowest ebb ever with United.

This was nothing.

This is how I feel. Hopefully I am overreacting.
I'm just calling it as I see it.
Losing SAF was always going to be difficult but 7 years on, we don't seem to know what we're doing.
I always thought that we'd dip and we probably wouldn't win the league for a while but that eventually we'll restructure and be back amongst the best again. I would say we're at least 5 years away and that's if we take action NOW.
Get a DoF (won't happen)
New manager (will eventually happen, but we'd have nothing to play for by then)
Rebuild the squad (AGAIN)
Unfortunately I don't see any of the above happening under the current regime.

Today I realised we will never be anywhere with Woodward in charge, but there were many darker days when Moyes was around.

This is the type of league table you get when your football manager save has been going on too long and the game begins to break

Its bad right now, give it a bit of time and perspective to know how bad it is in the grand scheme of things.
Tomorrow is another day. We'll wake up still supporting Utd and hope things are going to get better.

Today was an awful game, the scoreline, the capitulation, the defensive organizations (or lack of one), the red card, the lack of leadership, plus the fact we could/should have lost all three league games. I am concerned that if we continue to defend like that, the season could spiral quickly out of control. Scant consolation we are only 3 league games in, but still..

Worst day? No, not really, from the top of my head, I've felt worst.
Aguero, Nani red card vs Madrid, CL final 2009, losing to Leverkusen in 2002, FA Cup final 2005, Munich 2010, back to back 0-3 defeats against City and Liverpool under Moyes, number of games under LVG, Mourinho and Moyes, December 2015, the last few games of 2018/19, Mourinho's last game for us....

After the City 6-1 defeat, we won 8 out of the next 9 games with 7 clean sheets

My Ma was down after this result today and I mentioned this thread earlier. West Ham in 1992 came to mind for me. She said she watched United go off to play a game in Belgrade, and some of them didn’t come home.

Fair point.

The thing that's most upsetting but also most important to come to terms with for your own sanity, is that we're just not a football club anymore.

We're a business with a poorly run footballing department.
