Castles has said we only want a one year loan with no buy option at the end. Barca wanted to sell, but will agree if he renews his contract with them before leaving.

It's a terrible deal for us if we agree to that.
Why would we not want a buy option? That's in the buying club's favour. I can imagine we wouldn't want an obligation to buy, though.

Why do all other clubs seem to get loan deals but none of the targets we want to loan can be done?

I’d be up for a season long loan with him.

As I said yesterday, if this deal goes ahead, pay close attention to the difference in the coverage Spurs’ loan of Bale got and this one will get.
Do you mean how the press are going to say it’s an amazing deal by Spurs for Bale and how rubbish, shit and panicky we are for Dembele?

I would rather acquire Dembele's services on loan this summer, than Bale's. There's more potential upside with the former, in my view.

Pretty much. This deal has far more potential than Bale to Spurs but this will get painted as a terrible deal. In fairness it's very, very high risk but an even bigger reward.

Your guess is as good as mine. It's been reported as us only wanting a simple 1 year loan from the very start.

If we do this deal we are doormats. They are desperate for him to get gone. Last thing we need is an overpaid injury prone lazy bastard with an attitude problem

The biggest fecking red flag is that Barca want a permanent deal.

Yep, exactly that. They lauded the return of Bale on loan, have not referenced his salary once etc.

Like Dembele, he has been injury prone of late, cost his club huge money, has proven quality at his best and comes in an almost identical set of circumstances.

It’s because clubs know Utd have plenty of cash so would rather take a chunk of that than giving them a player on loan.

They waited, but they also bought a CB in in Matip if I remember correctly? (On a free, but still, it's a centre back to play)

Might be wrong on this, @Klopper76 or @RobinLFC ?
Yeah Matip was signed in the summer of 2016. We were trying to sign Van Dijk in the summer of 2017 then botched it, and signed him in the January of 2018.

£40m is a good deal. His value is at his lowest now. He cost £95m only a few years ago. Only 23, if he recovers his form, he's a star. Potential to be just as good, if not better than Sancho, who looks likely to never be coming here after what we pulled this year.

Barca are just as badly run as we are, them wanting to sell doesn't mean they know what they're doing.

If we do a simple loan with no buy option at the end, we're absolute morons.

Barca might be one of the only big clubs in world football who are as badly run as we are. I wouldn't put much stock in their opinion on anything.
Absolutely. they are shambles. I would put money on Koeman getting fired before Ole does

Of course they are.

If he does well, Dembele would then cost £100m+. His value is at his lowest now. A loan with no buy option at the end if he does well is the dumbest deal ever.

That's a great deal for Barca, not us.
Exactly. We'd be fecking nuts to accept this.

he has 2 years left of contract
if he leaves on a loan by the time he comes back he'll be in his last year of contract and barcelona will not be able to sell him
so barcelona can only sell him now or never

Meh, if we sign him he will quickly become a favourite space goat on here. I’ve made the comparison before but his play reminds me of an 18 year old Ronaldo. So much potential and so much excitement but so much frustration as it often simmers out to nothing. Unfortunately their mentalities are quite different so I don’t hold much hope that Dembele will kick on anything like Ronnie did when he was a few years younger.

If we spend £60m on someone who doesn't even want to be here, with one of the worst injury records of any young player.......
dont worry it’s not happening anyway. Only way this might ever happen is if we buy the player and take on all the risk while spending about 75% of the sancho money. All this talk about loans and getting a good deal, backup deal to sancho and all. Remember at the end of the day who’s doing the deals for us. We are pretty screwed. I’m finally learning to not my hopes up when it comes to us improving anymore after this summer. 1 step forward 3 back.

An 'option to buy' option is good.

An 'obligation to buy' option is, however, bad.

We don't want to have to spunk out 60m on him if he's played 10 minutes this season

Exactly. I struggle to think even our negotiators are bad enough to refuse to include something good for us, so I'd think that old shine-o-ball-o is probably mixing up his technical terms here.

Sorry I don’t think he’s been right even once since his mate Jose left
Was very early on both Maguire and AWB and pushed this Dembele move before anyone in the UK also. Try to be objective and don't go off reputation.

Exactly. £40m is nothing for a potential star. Only 23, his value will never be as low. If he recovers his form, Barca will never want to sell.
If he recovers then the price barca will demand will make dortmunds sanchos price a value proposition.

"Loan fee" sounds ominous. Watch us get dicked for £30-40 million for a one season loan.
barcelona paid 105m + 25m bonus = 130m total for a 5 season contract
so dembele costs them 130m/5 seasons = 26m per season (+ wages)

if barcelona loan dembele for free, they are paying 26m for him to play a full season in another club, so they won't

26m is probably the loan fee they want

Be decent if we get a loan with a option to buy at a set price, say €65m. So if he does manage to stay fit and starts playing like he did a Dortmund we aren't just improving someone else's player. Sounds like Barca need money now though.
