It doesn't? Surely not still working on AA batteries is it?
Yes because for many that's preferable

There was a thread on Resetera recently that I found amusing. It said 'lets settle battery Vs rechargable pack debate once and for all' and when you opened the thread the vote was exactly 50/50. Brexit close.

That’s pretty surprising in a society as lazy as ours. Rechargeable is so much less effort.

As someone who has both PS4 and Xbox, the thing about the Xbox is options. Disposable, rechargable batteries, or buy a plug and play kit (which for £15 gets you the same setup at PS4)

I was never sat close enough to the tele to charge the controller so rechargable batteries that I could swap in were my choice as I could stay wireless all the time.

Plus, my personal experience is that my dualshock controllers batteries wear with time. The Xbox with rechargable lasts way longer for me than PS4, and I've got to the point with 4 dualshocks that they can't work at all unless plugged in. Which is infuriating.

I know many will have had a different experience but that's mine. With the last 2 ive only charged by the console and made sure not to leave them plugged in incase I was managing them wrong but the same has happened.

I'm glad Sony cares enough about the environment by not giving the option of disposable batteries.:nono:

That vote is just fanboys Vs fanboys. I honestly find no sense in the AA batteries thing.

You can just plug a controller into a wall outlet, so the length of wire isn't really an issue, even then, you get stupid long wires.

Although you're right about the battery charge getting smaller over time. Can't say I've noticed it too much tbh, but I know it'll be there. I feel it's hard to judge because it appears some games use the battery faster? Not sure if that's just me being mental though.

I currently use batteries in Xbox elite controller, but that's because me charge kit got ridiculously hot i thought it was going to burst in flames

I'm now dreading the current batteries dying because I don't have any more and CBA to goto shop, I can just plug controller into the socket and use it that way though I think?

When I researched my dying controllers a lot of people were saying that charging via wall could be the issue. I always thought they only take what they need but seemed strange that I kept going through them and they'd end up unusable (literally 1 minute charge per use) without being plugged in

I’ve got a fairly long lead and it switches between being plugged into my headset and plugged into my controller (I think they last around 5-7 hours each). No issue for me.

Whenever I’ve had Xbox I’ve always bought the rechargeable pack but it really should come as standard.

I can’t imagine why anyone would want batteries to be fair.

Can get a play and charge kit for next to nothing though.

I explained in my next post!!

Stay wireless. It's pretty simple. And don't risk doing damage to the internal battery (which anecdotally don't feel to last anywhere near as long as my rechargable batteties but I haven't checked to be sure)

Quick Google search suggests PS4 battery life is 4-8hours. Xbox One is 30hrs, and with particular rechargable 40hrs plus.

One article said they tracked them and got 7 on PS4 and 13 on Xbox which is already a huge leap, but almost everywhere else seems to suggest Xbox is double that!

So yes - seems my anecdotal experience was right and to me it's a pretty decent trade. Plug and play may cost and not be included in the box but states 30hrs of play, so seems more than worth the cost over the smaller battery included in ds4.

If anybody finds anything more concrete please share.

Fair.

I’d rather plug my controller in, either while playing or just leave it, but everyone’s different.

It’s pretty rare I have game sessions over 7 hours these days which is plenty for me. Maybe it’s habit but I just plug mine in when I go off and have my PS4 on standby mode. Never really noticed the battery degrading much either which is amazing with t he amount I’ve played. Those stats are interesting though and fair enough if you prefer the choice just for me that’s always been a massive turnoff.

My controller worked fine for six years, then the left stick got drift. No problems that I noticed with the battery.
Your 'hands' charge the controller mate

Sony plans to launch a new PlayStation Store on the web and mobile later this month, which will remove the ability for you to purchase content for legacy consoles such as the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PSP. PlayStation 4 apps, themes, and avatars will also no longer be available through the web and mobile storefronts once the changes roll out, while content from your existing wishlist will be removed.
While you’ll no longer be able to purchase PS3 and PS Vita content from the PS Store on web and mobile, the platform holder is not shutting the storefronts down; you’ll still be able to buy content for both consoles using their native PS Store apps, although Sony has been failing to display new releases in the PS Vita storefront for years now.

Oh? I've done it for ages mind when I was charging the battery pack and it was hotter than the sun that was also the wall. Maybe I need to change.

AA batteries do last much longer than the packs though, that's for sure.

See, 50%

It's by far not a foregone conclusion that everybody prefers built-in as people here suggested.
It’s Sonycafe, what you expect? One month to go as we are tier 1, but not good enough for Sony to release it here first as they prefer Mexico.

Has anyone every had battery failure with a PS4 controller?
I've had 3 completely bust and then one of the two I have now has terrible life.

I assumed it was something I did and so started being really careful (only charging from console, making sure it wasn't left plugged in etc.) and still.

Clearly I've been unlucky but it's a common issue.

The batteries fading over time isnt really debatable though or a defect it's just the nature of the batteries (I think, anyway)

For what it's worth I think the lack of options, small battery and fade over time are the reasons I prefer to have external pack, rather than because of defunct controllers.

I've always had the problem that I ended up accidently buying the worse & least hyped console of the two in every generation.

Think I will wait to see how people feel when it's all out. I have a gut feeling that the xbox maybe better this year but that's where I tend to be wrong anyway.

Why do you care so much? You have no interest in one. Very weird obsession you got with something you don’t want.

@esmufc07 shut it.
Because maybe I wanna be sold on one?

Y'all don't seem to be too fussed though, don't understand that personally. If roles were reversed I'd be thinking about cancelling my PS5 pre-order and waiting...

I am getting one purely because of Gamepass. There is a few games I never got to play this gen on xbox (Ori part 2 and latest Gears game), it also has quite a few 3rd party games I am interested in playing too on gamepass
