The tiny little Xs, Os, squares and triangles moulded into the PS5 and it’s controller are a pretty cool little detail.

Elite 2 works great for me. I must have got really lucky. In saying that I also have vibration turned off as it fecks your aim. Decent for driving games but that’s about it.
Same. Only thing I’d change is the bit of flex on the trigger lock top setting. I’d like it if they addressed that on the next one.

Everytime I see the Series X it looks like the last person to handle it has just eaten a fish supper with no fork. The PS5 on the other hand is a pure chonker though, No doubt about it, OH LAWD HE COMIN'.

The Xbox consoles look very crisp and clean to me. Usually I find the Playstation nicer but not this time.

Does that actually mean anything or does it just mean Sony chose not to bother with a few of the features (to do their own thing?)
Xbox twitter love to fuel console warriors. It's like you say. PS5 is using RDNA2 but has no need for stuff like DirectX Raytracing so have done their own thing instead.

Expected. Well, both Sony and Xbox twitter teams naturally call out that sort of stuff.

There's obviously a reason Sony didn't opt for those features though. Either they thought they could do is better or cheaper, basically. And means the output could well be different, with one potentially implementing better than the other, or being easier for devs to leverage.

I doubt whatever the outcome is will actually be noticeable though.

Playstation 5 steals the UK with 57% market share
On home soil things are pretty even, with Playstation just tipping the scales in its favour with 57% of the market. The nation is split down the middle on how it likes to play, and with both the new PS5 and the XBox Series X set to cost £449.99, it doesn’t look like things will get any clearer.

Playstation takes the victory this time, but only by the finest of margins.
Since everyone is buying online right now, we know better than anyone else which console is most in demand. We are search experts after all. So we used global search data and online market share to find out which of the new consoles is the most popular in every country right now- Xbox or Playstation? Sorry, Sega Megadrive, looks like you’ve missed out.

Playstation also boasts a 57% share of the States
Things are just as tight in the USA, with Playstation owning 57% of the market there too. It’s clear that the West prefers Sony’s console, but only just. It’s certainly not an unachievable lead for XBox to overcome, so we’ll have to see if the Series X has what it takes to win that 7% of gamers over.
XBox takes big wins in smaller countries

While XBox consoles hold a pretty steady share of the market the world over, in some countries they boast almost complete dominance. In Afghanistan they own 90% of the market, while in Gabon and American Samoa it’s a 77% share. In larger countries, they control 54% of the Chinese market, despite neighbouring Japan being the birthplace of their arch rival.

My hunch here on this is that XSX and XSS have a more complete programmable Front end with mesh shaders (vs. the older primitive shader type), the Hardware VRS, and the technical hw required for the next Version of tiled resources, which is called Sampler Feedback. And I think, without saying positviely for certain, that that is why MS was so keen to make those features so prominent in their pre-release Material in the Xbox Series X. It was their hardware Feature advantage, they knew it, so they advertised it - just like how they advertised stable clocks as a thing even before Sony described the dynamic clocks to the public.

Will these advantages of a complete RDNA2 vs the PS5 GPU half way point matter? Probably.
By a lot? Meh. Let us wait for the games. And for the games over time. I think the raw flop and bandwidth will matter the most at first though as the other Features, should they prove limited to just XSX and XSS, require dedicated peogramming time to take advantage of. And multiplatform games do not always spend the resources to do that even. Unlike a faster GPU, which is just faster.

Digital foundry chimes in.

Interesting that Digital Foundry actually think it will probably matter. Wasn't expecting that.

I'm less sure, but obviously they forget more in their sleep about this stuff than I know to begin with.

Launch fast approaching and the XBox console just lacks wow factor to me... It's feeling like essentially more of the same. Is it just me?

I think both those Xbox consoles will age well, especially with how awesome Game Pass is, but as someone who's had both PlayStation and Xbox consoles in the past, the PlayStation just seems far more compelling to me early doors.

What is wow about the PS5?
For me, that controller is potentially wow, I'm eager to get my hands on it. PSVR support is wow. We know games like GOWR and the Horizon sequel are going to be wow. Even some of the lesser hyped games look wow to me, like R&C for example.

On the flip side, I can't think of anything for XBox... Except for Craig I suppose... As in 'wow that's bad'

All the hype for a controller that just vibrates. Not game changing in all honesty.

Your pulse headset however is interesting.
