I don't think he'd do well at the primaries tbh. Being Trump's VP doesn't guarantee he'll garner the same enthusiasm from his base - just look at Biden compared to Obama.

To be fair its very difficult to nail a President, especially one that has the senate and courts on their side. The second he goes back to being a civvy is when all bets are off and he could be facing a monumental quagmire of legal issues without the white house shielding him.
