That was poor by Kane. Run was mad and the ball hit his back.

You guys really need to replace Pickford.
Worst bit is we have a replacement but Southgate is a wanker.
Such a joke that the international games are not on terrestrial tv. Should be free for every England game, plus Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Typical England, face any half decent team competitively and we're fecking crap. Going nowhere with Southgate. He'll waste the opportunity next summer with this squad.
Agree with all of this

He might not be in the best form, but how is Mount playing over Sancho. This system is horrendous to watch. We’re basically just relying on Grealish to create as there’s no one running beyond Kane.

Also, Dier is getting completely taken to the cleaners by Lukaku.

When was the last time england really had a very good goal keeper? Seaman in the 90's?

Still don't get what Mason Mount is.
He's the new Lingard. Both when you dress back, painfully average. There are better wingers, #8's and #10's than Mount in our squad and yet he is the first name on the teamsheet.

Probably because we value "solid" players in this country far more highly than adventurous players who will never have the same level of consistency. If you're a player who dribbles or attempts high risk high reward passes, you're always going to be more likely to lose the ball more than a player who is mega-safe and will focus on just keeping the ball. We're in a stats-driven world these days, especially when it comes to possession and ball retention.

Sure, having the ball is important, but you still need players to do something with it.

Doubtful because a) I think he has Rashford ahead of Sancho (not unreasonably) but mainly cos b) he has Mount way ahead of Grealish
Hopefully he’s watching this game with both his eyes open and realises Grealish is miles ahead of bloody mount

It is odd. The solution to us having poor centre backs is to... play with 3 of them?

I'm also still not sure why Kieran Trippier is still a thing in 2020.
Trippier's been playing very well for Atletico Madrid. Probably more a case of him being a bench option and you bring him on to close out a 1-0 with ten minutes left in a tournament as would be mad not to start TAA.

I honestly think Southgate has kept 3atb as he was impressed with Coady last time out and would've started him in these games but for him going down with covid.

Tough for Southgate with all his wingers out of the squad for one reason or another, plus he probably didn't want to have to play too many players for 90 mins in both games so I can see why he didn't start Sancho. On the other hand even that being the case, Foden is significantly better than Mount.

Front 3- no pace
Midfield- no creativity

Piece of piss for Belgium really.

Questions need to be asked of Southgate for continually going with Henderson, Dier and Mount

The sad thing is it takes us doing shit in a tournament to get a manager sacked. And by that time our players are 2-4 years older at every tournament anyway.

Our FA just dont care and cant see a shit manager.
Another last 4 spot will probably keep him in for Qatar.

Think Euro 2024 is the tournament England should be looking at but then likes of Germany and Spain will likely have better teams (both rebuilding a little currently and don't look that strong for next summer).

Which is still, let's face it, daft.

Coady's decent and all, but he's not good enough to justify changing the system for and if he can't play in a 2 then, well, isn't that an answer in itself?

Red Card for Casemiro!
Kane has been trying to do it all by himself. Commentator saying how this setup could work with pace and trickery from Rashford and Sterling, but without that looks toothless, and I agree.

Switch to 4-2-3-1, with Sancho on for Trippier (Walker at RB, Mings/Dier at CB) and Mount in the hole. Maybe Foden on for Mount if you want to play Grealish in the hole to carry the ball forward.

There's no way that Kane will be able to keep up this level of play for the whole season. He is going to burn himself out for club and country.
It's ridiculous some of the areas he's popping up in. Just keep him in the final third/quarter of the field! Time for the rest of the players to step up.

This is a decent/good performance from Belgium. Haven't had to try very hard and they've scored two goals. England aren't doing enough to make them work.

Nice to see the tradition of targeting Chelsea players in the national team is carrying on to the new generation

I'd sack Southgate and get Howe in. He's progressive and I think he'd be able to set up the side to outscore most opponents that would bypass his shaky defensive record.

Just saw that team selection from Southgate. Pure cowardice. It's been obvious for years England are going nowhere with him, the WC run in '18 was one of the easiest runs to a semifinal you're ever likely to see.

Bring Wenger in. Bringing him in now would make England favourites for the European Championships IMO.

I agree. He’s better set up for international football.

Only Mount to be fair. I think people are happy to see Chilwell and James line up (just not in a back 5!)

I thought England were the better side. Belgium had 3 shots and scored 2. First was a deflection from a 30 yard shot that took it over Pickford‘s hands, second goal was a from a bogus free kick (although Pickford was terrible, keeper should be never be beaten at that height from a free kick) and the third shot was from the halfway line. Belgium’s xG must be 0.01 in that half.

England have created the better chances overall. It’s a lacklustre game from both sides though. I think Dier has been weak for England and Pickford on the goal.

Happy Bastoni is starting again, although I hope he skips Bosnia to prevent potential injury :)

Hoping he makes the Euro squad.

He’d never agree on principle TBF

He’s always stipulated that a national side should have a coach from that country

Is this a thing? Mount's the only one getting any stick because its quite clear he shouldn't be playing. The other likely starters from Chelsea deserve to be there.

Totally agree, his team selections are infuriating.

I know i'm biased but AWB, Shaw and Greenwood should be in that squad over some of the tried and tested gash he shoe horns in.

Big nosed dull cnut.

Why are people so negative about Southgate given that he got a really good record?

These nations league games under Covid doesn't matter that much. For Euro I am sure he will do well as a coach.
