DDG - it needs to be said

Not just because of the 3rd goal tonight, but I feel it is time Dean Henderson is given a run to show what he can do.

DDG was imperious for a number of years and it was his great saves that made out defensive stats look better than they should have done - he was an incredible shotstopper.

But that masked a reluctance to dominate his area and he seems reluctant to go for the ball with his hands in man on man challenges (I wouldn't like to do that either, to be honest, but then again I'm not an elite level goalkeeper). The mystique has slipped a bit in the last season or two and I''m concerned.

When Henderson has played recently, I've felt more comfortable and his distribution from the back looks good, it was his banana clearance 'down the line' that started the revival at West Ham.

Maybe he will have some weaknesses that become obvious over regular games, but I'd like to see him given a 10 match run in the first team, to show what he can do.

My opinion, only and I respect other people who may disagree.

I think we should give Henderson a real go.

It doesn't help that our defence is a bit rubbish, to put it mildly.

I do feel like there is a group of Man United fans living in the past regarding DDG and who seem to think he is above criticism because of his performances multiple seasons ago.

Has been shit for years.

Unfortunately this club and many fans are too romantic amd look fondly at the past.

He was great until he started playing for Spain. Had never been the same.

Ya but he saves with his feet.

Feck off

Yes. Even spain has realised he isn't good enough. He is no leader and just is prone to mistake. Change of scenery for him is needed.

Not his fault but I thought we should have sold him and not given him a feckload of money.

I think he makes our defence worse at times, he makes some amazing saves, but there's a certain nervous energy about him.

I'd love to have a keeper who dominates his box, and bosses his area with simple things like a corner going into the box.

He's great when the pressure is off. When were back in the EL and down to 6th he'll be amazing.

Maguire should never have let that ball roll behind but there was a deflection beforehand that pushed it a bit. However, the keeper had an advantage on that ball. He should have put the fear of god in Kluivert. She should have absolutely bollocked that ball and the player with it, à la Schmeichel. Instead, he turned his back and put his arms up like a fragile little bitch.

Wishing injury on a player
De Gea was a disgrace on the third goal. The absolute pinnacle of cowardice. Keane was right about wanting to swing for him. I would love to shatter his jaw right about now. Useless.

I’m not hugely convinced by either tbh, but Henderson has earned his shot.

Those who support DDG starting need to remember how good he was at Sheffield last season, look at them without him now... Ole at least needs to rotate them every other game. Henderson deserves the chance to take over.

Time for Henderson. DDG was known for his superb shot-stopping masking his lack of authority in the box and now that has gone too. Leipzig had 4 shots on target today - 3 went in.

Guy is finished. Any serious club would have shipped him after that dismal 18/19 season.

Yeah give Deano a proper opportunity to be number 1 now and no I don't care how much Dave is on either. Will admit that goal against West Ham on Sat probably shouldn't have stood but Henderson showed that his distribution is streets ahead of DDG

I love De Gea, I think we all do, but yeah he was rubbish tonight. I think this season he’s been a lot better than last, but I’d be looking to give Henderson an extended run. The difference with them is Henderson will come off his line and do the basics right, De Gea has had cracking reflexes over the years but he maybe relies on them a little too much.

I genuinely hoped Hendo would have gotten a real chance this season.

Its useless with De Gea. He doesn't even try anymore, happy to collect his paycheck.

DDG has better reflexes but Dean is more vocal, more commanding for crosses, nd most importantly, comes out of the box and picks up the fecking ball whenever there is a chance for the opposition.

Sick of this mopey cnut staying on his line and proceeding to do the arms on hips move he does whenever he concedes.

I love De Gea, but recently I’ve felt safer with Henderson in goal.
Form is temporary and all that, but this has got to stop! He has to work on his weaknesses, h’s still poor in the air, still stuck on his line and now he’s even making stupid mistakes.
I hate to see him like this because few years agonhe was the best goalkeeper in the world, and by some distance imo.

It’s no coincidence him wanting to stay coincides with his serious dip in form. He’s not wanted anywhere and has a nice contract here. He deserves to be dropped, or taken out of the fire to an extent.

He had one world class ability (shot stopping), which is gone this season. Compared to other GKs, he's actually in the worse half in terms of shot stopping in both EPL and CL. He's mediocre at best at everything else.

Drop him.

DDG is too scared of getting clattered when it should be the other way round.

Ive been saying it for some time now that OGS is too green behind the ears and too naive and gets shown up with woeful tactics. Manchester Utd should not have someone doing their apprenticeship leading them. How many times have his mind boggling team selections and lack of proactive decision making cost us.

Theres too much wrong and there is no leadership in the boardroom capable.of fixing the shower of shite we find ourselves in!

OP is bang on. Needs to add something about the keeper organising the 4 clowns directly in front of him also.

LIvewire, that's what I meant by 'reluctant to dominate his area'. I agree that he does not organise the defenders.

With a defence as timid and feeble as United’s, I believe you need a GK with personality and a strong voice who can hand out a bollocking now and again and organise the lads in front of him. You just get the impression, particularly with hearing players on the pitch more these days, that there’s nothing coming from behind the defence with DDG. This is before you even get into his actual performances for the last 3 years which leave a lot to be desired. Time for Ole to be bold and give Henderson a run.

This is where the ruthlessness is missing in the club. Liverpool once ditched Westerveld for one error whilst De Gea is now becoming more unreliable.

I’m at the point now where I feel it’s time for him to go

Was thinking just that after RBL 3rd goal. Henderson must be given a chance for a longer period of games.

DDG is finished. He relied on his insane reflexes so many years, but was shit at everything else - coming out of his line to clear high/low balls, ball distribution, organising his defense etc. I thought he will be coached and get better at those things since he and our coaches know ( or should know...) that with age his reflexes will weaken. Hes been costing us points for over 3 seasons now.
But hes now 30 and never improved his other fields and here we are stuck with a past it GK on 400k a week.

'tis a silly place
He made his name for 1) his insane reflexes and reach to save impossible shots and 2) saving us when we really needed it in key moments. His distribution was never great and his aerial presence is non-existent. Once he loses 1) and 2), there is little left.
