It’s the inconsistencies with these refereeing decisions that are infuriating. I guarantee you we’ll see this exact same scenario in the PL next weekend and a penalty will be given. :houllier:

Someone please go back to 41:25 of the match and watch Dan James, watch the complete trip that the ref sees because he’s going to blow the whistle....how is it not a yellow?
Yup this is one of the two I mentioned above which are definite yellows.

Ref is having a belligerent mare of a game.

If watching as a neutral, this is a much-hyped yet boring game. Name one good player in that first-half? Both teams huffing-and-puffing really.

We should win this because Chelsea offer absolutely no threat at all. Neither do we by the way, but Rashford, or Fernandes or Greenwood will do something... we hope!

But it's a bit of a stalemate. Personally, I think both teams are lacking guts. Neither side seem like they want to win, but are too scared to lose.

That's not Man Utd. We can beat that Chelsea line up, comfortably.

If Werner comes on, or Pulisic come on, then I may worry.

If we lose, can we say we didn't have a chance to beat these rivals? Chelsea are not performing at all....

IF the second half goes like the first it'll be another missed opportunity to get a big win. The game is totally there to be won, we just need to do a lot better where it counts.

? We’ve controlled Chelsea at home who just beat the top of la liga with ease. What else do you expect? We’ve been decent
It's an awful match. If that is Utd being decent then how our standards have dropped. You could have put the Liverpool away or Arsenal away match in the dvd player and not bothered with this. One shot on goal which was a fk. Performances like this is why we were never going to stay at the top. awful

I quite enjoyed that. I like the hustle, the pressing. I feel we finished well on top, we just need a little more composure when we're on it, we'll find a pass eventually. James is not getting the breaks but he's pressing like a lunatic, forcing mistakes. What do people think we'd be getting from Martial?
I sort of agree. I do think we would benefit from a focal point up front because greenwood tends to drift in the channels. Its a shame cavani isnt available, martial could do this ans allow Greenwood to play on the right but he has been abysmal all season

As I posted in the other thread, Martial is #2 in the entire PL on involvement in sequences that lead to shots. We will not have as many sequences which lead to shots if he is off the pitch.

It's true that he is not playing well, but we create more chances when he is involved in build-up play because he's much better with his back to goal than Greenwood and Rashford.

Watching AWB on the ball is like watching old people shag; unpleasant and everything is happening half as fast as it should be.

Good point from Scholes there. Problem for us is McTominay and Fred are WAY too deep. Push up a bit, or at least have one up. As it is they're right on top of the CBs.

Second half changes is where we could slip, if Chelsea decide to put an extra player through the middle we will have difficulty. We lack real options on the bench. We seeing why a winger is more important than a striker, its the small details that count.
I'll take Haalands 38 goals a season over options on the right wing <3

I wonder who would swap Kante for Fred, he's shocking player in possession, losing the ball all the time unable to execute an easy pass. Fred has also been one of our more creative players despite doing the most defensive work again winning some crucial counterattacks.

Need more from some of our players like McT, except passing to his teammate 5m next to him he didn't provide anything extra, we need every piece of creativity today.

AWB with one of those games when you wonder, who the heck scouted him. Why is his ball control so shite at times. Stay more confident lad! Greenwood looked lively but too little time on the ball and far from the goal.

At least Lindelof seems to have his passing boots on him and didn't do anything stupid. We've been good in possession after the bad first 10 minutes or so.

Let's keep it going and we will score. Keep the press, they will concede possession we will take our chance and lastly shoot, their keeper seems a panic buy and never in control.

I think all my posts in the first 45 is around berating Dan James

It's not his fault because he's putting in a lot of effort and covering so much distance. But he's extremely ineffective in 75% of scenarios within the game, even if he gets a goal it won't take away the fact that his general performance is not at the calibre we need. I think we need to even it out because we are dominating the game despite him not really offering anything.

That said, I can't say we'd be better with Martial on either because he's hardly ever accelerating anymore or running in behind. Amad maybe? But strongly doubt he'd get a look in.

They have two players marking Bruno. They're also doubling up on Shaw. That's our two biggest chance creators out of the game
Would be nice if bruno would stop putting four yard passes out of touch

People thinking this is a decent performance ?

I don't remember a single shot Mendy had to save.

It's an awful match from both sides. Such quality proves why there's a 10 points gap between City and rest of the league.

I would say Martial could add some much needed quality in the final third, if of course the right Martial turns up, which is obviously massively far from guaranteed.

I dont understand, why that was not a penalty. None of the pundits on danish TV can understand it - both Jesper Grønkjær (former Chelsea) and Jan Mølby (former Liverpool) think it was a penalty.

Yep, I’ve seen that given so many times. They just make it up as they go along, clearly the VAR has recommended a pen yet the ref decides different?

If James screamed every time he was touched like that cnut Giroud does, he might get more fouls.

I cannot stand how brain dead this team is terms of the dark arts.
Ander would know how to win this game:-(

That referee decision is right up there with the ones vs Sheffield. Disgraceful.

Apart from that, game has gone exactly how everyone thought it'd go. Maybe Chelsea are hoping Werner off the bench will do something. Hopefully it won't come down to whose bench is better as the only threat from our bench is an out of form Martial.

Even though James lacks physicality, he has contributed to the high press, which has resulted in our better moments. I liked that ball he played in from the right, we need to get him 1v1 against Chilwell more.

Spot on. I like all three of them, McFred for their stability they bring to midfield and James just because he seems like such a nice lad, but all three (+AWB) lack quality on the ball which means any attack down the right gets killed in its infancy when Chelsea press so high
    In short, we miss Pogba.

It's alright, I'm from the country.
Good job Martial wasnt on the pitch giving that Rashford performance. He'd be getting pelters.

No cutting edge as usual from us but play wise we have been not too bad. Has nil nil written all over it but I don't see us keeping a clean sheet, despite Chelsea not having many chances.
Bruno needs to get more involved on the edge of their box and Shaw needs to improve his delivery apart from that not terrible.

Dan James has been comical, if ever an example of a player running around like a headless chicken.. that was it.
Not a Dan fan but he is the only one properly pressing. We nearly saw the benefit of it late on but couldn't capitalize.

He’s a fecking cop out. Gary asked him a straight forward question “do you think that was a penalty?” to which Tyler replies “At first glance in real time it looked like Greenwood touched it” he didn’t fecking ask you what it looked like at first glance, he asked if it was a penalty after it was made clear Hudson-Odoi handled it.
    Just a troll tbh

Dan James has done well this first half and I'm certainly not his biggest fan. His pressing has made a big difference for us so far.

If I was to single out one player that hasn't done as well as he should in attack I'd say Greenwood has been sloppy whenever he's had the ball.
