Good point by the pundits at HT about how our midfield two are far too deep to protect Lindelof and Maguire hence the gap between midfield and attack being huge and the midfield offering little going forward.

I sort of agree. I do think we would benefit from a focal point up front because greenwood tends to drift in the channels. Its a shame cavani isnt available, martial could do this ans allow Greenwood to play on the right but he has been abysmal all season
Yes but we've got the front 3 pressing hard at the moment. The issue is when we're in possession but the idea of having these 3 on the field is that it gives us a more dynamic press, I presume. Which it does, I mean Chelsea are really struggling to build from the back.

Rashford doesn't have the instints of a striker, id swap him out wide and bring Greenwood inside. Whenever we do get into wide positions no one is in the box so the attach gets held up and we don't have the passing ability to cut through Chel.

It's only a matter of time Giroud gets on the end of one of CHO's crosses!

I’d say we’ve been the better team...just. Although the Giroud chance was the best and only chance in the first half.

Reckon Dani Jamez will channel his inner Kanchelskis and sneak us a winner.

Scholes saying McFred too deep and too concerned with protecting our CBs.

    I agree.

Best part about the penalty decision is the Chelsea players were wanting a handball, until they realized it was their teammate who touched it

We've looked okay so far. Probably the better team on balance but without either team hashing any real big moments. I'm glad we're not totally playing within ourselves as we so often do in big games, but it's only a start. We've still a lot more to show.

I don't understand the no penalty decision however. Looked to clearly hit his hand on the VAR replay and I was fully confident it would be awarded so I'd love to know how they decided it wasn't a penalty.

Tuchel has this Chelsea side organised and difficult to break down. He's also not stupid enough to allow us to play on the counter as much as we'd like.

Both sides are set up not to lose. A single goal wins this game.
For once against a top 6 I think Ole has us going for it more than Chelsea with our high press. The problem is when we win the ball back we're not too sure what to do with it.

Really? I thought we actually struggled on wings and around the box in final 3rd. Midfield is doing its job.
Yes....their not winning possession back as easily as Chelsea and their passes to our forward line have been non existant, we are having to rely on Maguire driving from deep or Lindelof switching play. Its all good covering ground, but that's not the only job of a midfielder.

It’s the inconsistencies with these refereeing decisions that are infuriating. I guarantee you we’ll see this exact same scenario in the PL next weekend and a penalty will be given. :houllier:
Agree, and before, we've seen it, it bloody obvious the refs got it wrong that's why the VAR guy asks him to look at it. CL, Europa league thats a pen all day long, the EPL refs are bad,

Really? Fred is winning the ball regularly 10, 15 yards into the Chelsea half. Not sure where they wany him engaging.

So many attacking options Chelsea have but none standout except Mount's general industriousness , they're going to have to spend big yet again.

Good job Martial wasnt on the pitch giving that Rashford performance. He'd be getting pelters.

No cutting edge as usual from us but play wise we have been not too bad. Has nil nil written all over it but I don't see us keeping a clean sheet, despite Chelsea not having many chances.
Bruno needs to get more involved on the edge of their box and Shaw needs to improve his delivery apart from that not terrible.

Dan James has been comical, if ever an example of a player running around like a headless chicken.. that was it.
Rashford is closing in on 20 goals for this season and Martial has 2 in his last 15, against ten man Southampton who were already 4-0 down.

Rashford can be frustrating but he's been miles better than Martial this season.

People need to stop pairing them both as if both deserve the same criticism.

If we bring on Martial for Dan James, we're losing this game. No doubt about it. Martial doesn't press.

We need a striker. Greenwood is a wonderful prospect but he is not ready to be the man yet

Anyone else fecking love Fred? If this was Fergie’s 08 side, he would be an important player and probably a cult hero. Once this team (fingers crossed) starts winning things, Fred will become a cult hero like Park Ji-Sung
He just needs to sort out his erratic touch but I’m afraid that will never happen.

Not a Dan fan but he is the only one properly pressing. We nearly saw the benefit of it late on but couldn't capitalize.
For sure he is pressing but he looks like a toddler chasing a bouncy ball. Plus half the game he was on his ass.

People thinking this is a decent performance ?

I don't remember a single shot Mendy had to save.

It's an awful match from both sides. Such quality proves why there's a 10 points gap between City and rest of the league.
Gotta agree, unfortunately. City are in the league of their own.

The problem with asking these pundits whether it’s a penalty or not is they give their answer on it like the games still being played in their day. Obviously it wouldn’t be a pen years ago it’s daft but according to the letter of the law and the precedent set this season it should be.

Timo reads the CAF, so he'll come in and get the winner. Bet your houses on it
As Neville said on commentary, there's a lot of space in behind Maguire and Lindelof - there'll be a lot of opportunity for Werner. We need to score first so that we can drop off a bit.
