De Gea should take a pay cut to go back to Spain and be with his family. He would be well suited to going to a non-Barca/Madrid La Liga club where there would probably be a little less pressure so that he can enjoy the remainder of his career.

Someone like a Sevilla, Sociedad, Betis or Villareal would surely be interested.

If he refuses, tell him he will be on the bench next season. He won’t get picked for Spain, and after that, nobody is going to be offering him big money anyway.
That’s where the lump sum pay-off comes in. It’s all well and good him choosing to go to some mid table La Liga side, we will be footing the bill like we did with Alexis Sanchez.

I think Henderson hype will be regretted if he becomes our number 1 with no De Gea to step in when it becomes obvious that he isn’t good enough. Then the excuse will be “well of course Ole can’t compete we need a world class keeper, look at the difference it made to Liverpool”

Neither Henderson nor DDG are world class keepers at the moment. It’s on us to find the next one & train up the one that stays.

I agree De Gea hasn’t been performing world class, but we know for a good 4-7 years he was, at 30 he should be at his best with several years still go. It could simply be about the goalkeeping coach, a lot has been made in the past about DDG needing to feel a connection with his goalkeeping coach.

My opinion, we let De Gea go, he will go on and have success at another top club, probably more success in the next 3-6 years than Henderson will have in the next 12 years.

A lot of it depends on the club, obviously.

As much as I love DDG, it seems like it is the right time to invest time & effort into Henderson as GK1. It would be unfair to both to have a potentially wasted year next year with both still on the books. It’s a hard decision, some side will be upset, but we need to make it early in the window.

maybe. But if I am De Gea then I would be taking a serious look at taking a wage cut to be able to go back to Spain.

sure he and his agent can try to negotiate some payoff, but the bottom line is that family should come first. Is he really going to be happy spending another season in England and not even playing? Sure he can pick up a big cheque every week for doing nothing, but it’s not like he would be paid peanuts in Spain - still a very comfortable standard of living on top of the savings he surely has.

"Funny" how he lost his no1 place. If he stayed (not going in Spain to be with the kid) he would not lost his no1 spot.

There’s new rumours of him leaving, in my opinion I think DDG *may* want to go back to Spain to raise bis child, more than falling down the pecking order? Hence why we’re allegedly looking to pay off his contract as a thank you for being a legend of the club? I dunno, just spitballing here, maybe it’s a tactical decision, who knows

He’d be back as #1, I was certain he was gonna be back as #1 this week.

2 howlers already tonight, nothing will be said. Not at fault for the goal in fairness.

I always worry for Henderson when I notice he’s playing. Never known a fan base so toxic towards one of their own  He’s 24 :houllier:

Amazing how the most important quality someone needs to be United starting 11 player nowadays is an English passport. This is right behind being the manager's favourite.

I just know that when he plays he gets hounded for not being prime de gea.

I know, I have a lot of time for Man Utd fans.
He doesnt have to be right, he looks incredibly shakey, worse than the average PL keeper which is weird as he was one of the better keepers last season by numerous metrics.

He's made 3 "howlers" today apparently, so there's an example.
Those were 3 very very poor exhibitions of goalkeeping, which could have easily been errors leading to a goal. Well at least two of them I'd say. But maybe we are used to that now.

The dropped cross was really, really bad, schoolboy stuff. He does seem a bit nervous and shaky. Considering his past performances for Sheff Utd, I'd put it down to the pressure of playing for United and the close competition for the spot. Hopefully that will wane soon. On current performances I don't quite see him as the solution.

This is what I don’t get and it’s why I posted my comment. It was only the other week he was getting praised for a great run of clean sheets and a performance against Milan. But then again, you will have seen more of him this season than I have, I just haven’t seen this so called average keeper. He’s not the finished article at all but some comments are incredible.

What is it with teams and swarming our GK making him look 2 foot 1.
I'm always surprised De Gea is 6ft 4. Similar when I hear Henderson is 6ft 2.
Maybe it's the skinnyness that stops me thinking they're pretty giant in height.

It's because it's now been pitted as Henderson vs De Gea. So whenever one of them does well it will be overpraised as evidence of how much better he is than the other. And then when he doesn't do well he ships heavier criticism in return. Which is ultimately unfair on both.

no. Your post was a joke. Get a grip. The lad is 24.
So what does that have to do with my post? He's not warranted a starting spot ahead of De Gea based on performances and all of a sudden he's starting? What criteria is there to make him a starter.

I can see that. It’s not fair like you say, I don’t get why people like to take sides like this but I guess it boils down to a newbie coming in and looking to push an established keeper out. Just enjoy having two talented players.

young players being in contention all season for the no 1 spot, and he’s been having a run.

no reason... must be because he’s English. Tool.

Literally no reason, you're right. I'll forgive the personal insult, as I'm sure it's difficult when someone disagrees with you, so you have to resort to insults.

The caf has unrealistic beliefs from the players that come through the academy.
