Spurs bigger club than PSG? Don’t get it twisted please. Even before PSG was bankrolled by the Qataris, they have always been bigger than Spurs. How many times have Spurs featured in the champions league compared to PSG? Spurs is not bigger than PSG, sugar daddy or no sugar daddy.
I don't even know where to start.
Firstly, PSG are a better side than spurs currently and have been for a while. Nobody is arguing that.
But to become a bigger club is a completely different thing.
Timelines alone dictate that. PSG were only formed in 1970 for a start. Tottenham were only the second team ever to win the English double 9 years before that. And contrary to how it's been neglected today, that was a huge deal back then. Spurs are also the first British club to win a European trophy. Which is a fact that gets overlooked because Celtic and United won back to back European Cups in '67 & '68 respectively.
Whilst PSG were in their infancy, Spurs were adding 2 UEFA Cups to their history. Now, this is where the distinction gets confusing in many fans eyes.
PSG were competitive in Europe winning honours themselves in the mid nineties in the form of the cup winners cup on '95, which remains their last European honour.
Spurs have gone a stupidly long time without a trophy, but so did PSG at least in the terms of the French title.
Basically, PSG, can claim enough history to be a big club, but they are in absolutely no way bigger than Spurs at this moment. Spurs have done far more for the history of the game. They were one of the big six that lobbied the football league and encouraged all other first division clubs to resign and form the Premier league. Without that happening, does the champions league get bastadised (sorry only in my opinion, the more older footage I watch the more I miss the European cup) the way it did?
Incidentally, they've appeared in one final each in modern times.
So, do you really want to debate this with a professional commentator?
