Somehow I've made United work in matchday and now I'm probably gonna be in the final tonight. Muga!

Can I buy PES 2021 on the PS Store if I don't have PES2020? It says it's an update so I'm a bit confused here.
Is it the full game or not?

It's a standalone game. They just mean to say that 21 is a minor update from 20.

Just got this, what do people think? Gonna smash out the master league, will the kit updates work okay on ps5?

Have they updated the transfers? Started master league and nothing has happened.

I got the United edition over Xmas. Really enjoying it so far after a few years of not really enjoying any footy games.

What are the game modes like? Is there an equivalent to Ultimate Team?

I haven't played PES in years. Used to be my favorite footie game by a mile.

Yes there is. Not my thing but I’ve read that a lot of people prefer it to Ultimate Team.

Most game modes are lacking compared to FIFA but still enjoyable for what they are.

Cool.

I was thinking of giving it a go as I know the gameplay is supposed to be excellent and I've had a titful of Fifa.

So was going to get this to play with my mate and was just wondering are there many co-op game modes in this? Done a bit of a search but can't make much sense of it. Any online divisions like Fifa, for example?

Same. Grabbed it yesterday and there were so many give aways in the MyTeam section I've now got a front 6 of Bruno, Beckham, Son, Messi, KDB and Mbappe.

And yeah oddly Alexis was the first player I got from a pack as well. Eurgh.

Just downloading this now. Do you have to pay for membership on PES Universe these days to download the option file ?

I swear to god I hate this game, I dominate possession every single match, but lose to some stupid sloppy goal where they play it into a striker and they turn my defender like they aren’t even there and I just can’t stop them.

Not even sure how I dominate possession, I don’t try to but I just do.

Because it's on GamePass and for nostalgia's sake I thought I would try this out. It's my first PES in about 15 years.

Overall, I'm enjoying the game. However, I've had to learn it from scratch. And the one thing that really bothers me is that I'll learn a skill, like the double touch, but then I'm only able to pull it off 75% of the time.

My actions on the controller are the same, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Is this a common problem with the game?

So I wanted to try this one again, the Lite version because I don't play offline these days. I started myClub and matchmaking is still horrible, the wait time is horrendous.

Probably because nobody plays PES

Been playing this some more and it's growing on me. Had to knock it down to professional difficult though as I was being carved open by the likes of Barnsley RW and Sheffield BW in my default ML team. Arcas is mint.

PES on Legend difficulty in the ML may just be the best example of overpowered scripted ai. The game is beyond playable. Its, frankly, amazing that-that level of difficulty exists because there's 0 enjoyment in it. Its a frustrating and a horrible piece of shit.
I initially thought Legend difficulty would produce a more realistic interpretation of the game, how wrong was I.Junk.

Yeah it’s pretty frustrating. The fact they have to make your players sluggish, do inexplicable things, switch to the wrong player, pass to nobody, make your centrebacks scatter or ping a shot in from 40 yards if you don’t close down makes it unplayable at times. I probably win 1 in 3/4/5 on that difficulty. You need the first goal, then go uber defensive and play for possession using your back line if they press high up the field.

Sometimes there’s just nothing you can do, the game decides it will score and both teams accommodate it.

I think my ML record at the moment is : won 6 lost 3 draw 1. Its decent but having just been walloped by Bristol City, in a Cup game, as United I think I've well and truly given up on that level. Even when I won, I didn't enjoy the victory.
Just a overall frustrating experience and I honestly don't know why that difficulty exists.

Could they seriously not find a better way to up the difficulty on this game than to just literally allow it to cheat?

There's pretty much no point in giving the player any control of the game on the more difficult settings in ML. You are either going to win or you're not and what you do during the actual game beyond deliberately sabotaging yourself makes very little difference. You just get more likely to be allowed to win if and when your player's ratings improve.

Reached a point on mine where I either win 4 or 5-0 or lose. Never anyhting inbetween. Just makes the scripting so painfully obvious it sucks any fun out of playing.

I’ve hated playing against the AI on PES since ps2. I’ve only bought a few PES games and they always end up the same, I struggle until the team gets fully gelled (don’t know the word they use on PES) and then I win games with ease. The AI barely even get a shot on goal.

I’ve been playing on the PS2 and I much prefer that PES. I can’t even win the league on my master league save and every game seems different.

Playing exclusively against the COM using full manual controls on superstar difficulty. Easily the best footie game Ive played since Pro Evo 5/6.

Cant put it in to words but everything flows like you'd expect a game to flow.

Yeah. It feels a lot more responsive. You can tell its still the same game but at the same time feels like more than just a patch update. Kind of like they've gone over the game with an iron to smooth out the edges.

Although I haven't played it in months because unfortunately they didn't fix the bullshit AI scripting, which after you've played it a certain amount makes every game predictable.

I play this mostly against a mate online and it's great compared to playing against randos. The top teams - United especially - are absolutely dominant and the flow of the game is much better with worse teams, which of course nobody online ever picks. Twas ever thus really but the old PES games weren't as bad for it (Inter/Brazil/Adriano aside).

We just did a sort of Euro 2020 last 16 cup and it was an absolute blast playing with the likes of Finland and Slovakia. I lost in the end to better teams but I was tied to the outcomes as I really wanted the underdogs to succeed. All I needed to do with France was get the ball to Mbappe and shoot from silly angles and eventually he put one away.

It's probably one of the best footy games I've played in terms of defense. It often feels like watching United struggle to break down low block teams

Also, any tips for scoring outside the box? I find them really hard, even using manual as the GK always saves them.

I tend to score plenty online from distance, but I've always used advanced shooting so most tips I can give would only be for that. Don't bother shooting from outside the box with anybody without either the Long Range Shooting or Long Range Drive player skills.

Players with Long Range Drive and a decent amount of curl stat will have good success with Henry type shots, on the opposite side of the box to their stronger foot, curling into the far corner. Usually hit these with plenty of power, and aim higher if I'm wider (you can score these from stupid positions like outside of the corner of the box if it loops over the keeper) and lower if I'm more central. You can also do Quaresma type trivela shots from the other side if the player has the Outside Curler skill and you position him to take a shot where a normal player would use his weaker foot. These usually only work on high shots for me as the trivela has a very loopy trajectory.

Players with Long Range Shooting and plenty of kicking power can blast in rifle straight shots pretty often as well. I usually just aim these one side or the other at medium height with about 60% power (around what you'll probably use for most free-kick attempts) from central positions. Unfortunately, if the player has Rising Shots this has a decent chance to just fly up into the stands, and if the player has Dipping Shots, it'll have a decent chance to just bobble through to the keeper (though these skills won't be triggered every time even if the player has them). I've found no practical use for either of these skills because low shots don't trigger the rise and high shots don't trigger the dip. Maybe they can do something useful if you're using either basic or manual.

Good to know. I'll have a look before the match about stats as it'll be good to know who's got those traits. I really like the extra incentive not to waste long shots just because I have space.

Forgot to mention the most important bit sorry :houllier: but you've probably already inferred it. Long Range Drive = RT/R2 curl/finesse shots, Long Range Shooting = straight up shots with no modifier.

I'm playing the PC version, Master League with Sheffield Wednesday on Legend, the transfer system is still completely fecked as in every PES, so I have to set myself some boundaries to not make too unrealistic transfers, otherwise I lose interest. The most important thing about Master League is to not lose patience at the beginning, when your Team Spirit is still building up. The game's night and day from the beginning to 95+ Team Spirit.

This is my preferred patch:
https://www.pessmokepatch.com/2020/10/sp2100.html
There's a lot of Legends in there with faces, you could for example edit all the Legends, make them 50 year old and make them retire immediately, so in the second season you could get Scholes, Carrick, Ferdinand, Vidic etc. as youth players.

Overhead kick goal on full manual against superstar CPU!

Lovely goal.

I thought I was great at PES until I gave manual passing a go. Nope, just can't deal with it. Simple passes are just too much of a nightmare for me.

Well, (for me) the point of turning up the difficulty should be a more challenging opponent, if you turn everything on manual the game will be more challenging, but for different reasons. A.e. fecking up simple passes. :D

Yes, I agree! Manual can sometimes feel great further up the pitch with the added freedom, but when sideways passes between your back 4 are always slightly off the mark, it just kills the game for me.

You just can't be consistently precise enough with the stick on a gamepad for it to work for me. Same reason I don't like playing shooters with a gamepad instead of keyboard and mouse. Well, that and I play mostly online so it'd be a massive handicap there no matter what.

With manual shooting, I actually think you have less control than you do with advanced as well. Can't blast the ball low, for example.
