Why? Almost all of them will comfortably get work for any channel covering any other breakaway league for probably, more money, since bigger money = more money for all except the fans paying for that.... except oddly, the non ex-footballing presenters who aren't going in too passionately on it.
Exactly. These three lads are ex-pros with a very visible social media presence and personality. They are getting paid no matter what happens.

Neville in particular, is a football man, frustrated at the complete disregard for the history and tradition of English football. Keane and him wore the United shirt with pride and attended many a Munich remembrance service. They know how valuable that tradition, culture and supporters are to Manchester United.

If the PL, CL and (even though it started long ago) FA Cup become nothing, what was the point in their careers?

It is a joke and I hope the 6 clubs are punished. The integrity of the game has been badly bruised by state run clubs, but this would wipe it out completely.

He speaks brilliant as a fan of the game. But he, as the member of the board at Salford - has shown he is cutthroat businessman as well. Talks to the talk but....

Back in 1992, Sky were behind a breakaway league.
In 2021, Sky are suddenly against a breakaway league.
I'm not massively following - but are Sky against it? Their pundits being against it isn't them being against it either. They don't even have CL rights, I don't see why they'd have an outright stance on it right now.

It's a slightly different situation but I'm not in here for a second to defend Sky. It's the dismissing of the opinion of Neville or Keane or whoever as if they are PURELY Sky employees and thus mouthpieces for the organisation.

Why do you think he wants an independent regulator so that every club gets his share?

The premier league wasn’t a breakaway league. The same clubs who played in the last first division were placed in the first ever PL. Teams from leagues below were STILL able to gain promotion to the Pl. It wasn’t a closed shop. Nobody got a place in the Pl cos they won some trophies in the 70’s.

I am absolutely baffled people can’t work out the difference.

100 percent they would.

It would be pure gold for them.
Short term yes. Long term no.

Watching United play Real twice a year, every year for ten years.... no. Pointless. Romance is gone. UEFA can pretend it’s magical. In the same way that the SFA can pretend an Old Firm
Game matters. 34 years since anyone saw a team not from Glasgow won the league. feck. That.

Absolutely. When the old firm were playing each other up to 6 times a year it was a complete nonsense.

Playing Real and Barce will get old super fast and this will end up dropping off. First 2 years it will get ridiculous numbers though

Absolutely true. This is a move to something that will be similar in its essential nature to the NHL, NFL, or NBA. It's way, way more radical than the PL.

And years 1-5 will deem it a success that we should continue. Years 6-10 won’t matter. RESIST

You are right.

From what I've read the idea would be everyone still in their own leagues during weekends and super league during the week. Super league being a league system means there would be no knockouts. I dont know how the domestic cups feature or if there would still be European cups for all the lads not deemed good enough by the 15 founding arseholes

What’s the similarity other than they both are new leagues?

Can’t see any others.

On his rant about the super league I think he accidentally came up with a great Spurs put down. He was saying how disappointed he was with Utd, Liverpool, even Arsenal and how they had a responsibility to football and their wider communities. When he mentioned Spurs I'm sure he just said he didn't care.

I have respect for Gary. He said the right things but hes a club owner. Be intrigued to see how he gets on if Salford end up in the likes of the championship

Does anyone have the video where he slams his employers for charging fans £15 a game to watch their club during a pandemic?

I don't know, I'm sure he's a total man of the people but for a ex-Premier League era player on a seven figure salary from Sky who works as a pundit on TV coverage that fans have to form out the best part of £50 a month to watch, talking about greed...I dunno, the indignation seems a little hollow.

I'm not saying his wrong, but he's preaching from the pulpit with quite an impressively shiny brass neck.

Greed has been a bane of the game for years. As have owners who use their personal wealth to pump into clubs to give them an unfair advantage over other sides.

I'm not not convinced Sky Sports employee and Salford City part-owner Gary Neville is particularly best placed to make that point. Irony is that unless shared on Twitter we wouldn't even hear his rant on greed destroying the game unless we gave his employer fifty quid for the privilege.

Cos there isn’t really. The equivalent would be creating a new European competition calling it a different name then making the Champions League the secondary European competition instead of the Europa league. With the exact same teams, rules, slot allocations applying.

This, I must have missed him "standing up for the fans" when Sky stopped showing La Liga and the CL but without a reduction in cost.

Brilliant stuff from Gary Neville. Couldn't have summed up my feelings any better with his words.

He fully understands the history of this sport and what football means to the people in Europe. The Glazers and the other owners of this group definetly don't.

He makes me laugh. If Salford were offered a place in the ESL he'd dance on the table for the money.

They got into the league because they are funded by Valencia's owner and had the backing of BBC and Sky, and the Class of 92 brand. That's how they got into the football league. What they did on the pitch was only a by product of that.
And somehow still much less artificial and more principled than this shower of shite.

So the dead to me is no longer associated with him , all it took was him to disagree with a breakaway league that will change football . The caf is a very easy place to be forgiven

I bet when Google, Disney or Amazon hire their Super League TV commentary team, Gary would be the first to apply.

I don’t believe a lot of the words that come out of his mouth. He’s a real show off.
He’s probably more mad that Salford will lose out on all of this.

The 'buying a small club, built it up and then selling it to rich owners for a profit' football model is under threat now.
