I'll happily believe in the good of the players until I'm proven wrong, instead of coming in here with supposedly witty 1-liners, shitting on those players, that are actively trying to make a change.
Ok, settle down sweetheart.
Did the nasty man not agree with you?

Yes it shouldn't be a closed off group with no outline as to entry requirements or consequences for failure, that much I couldn't agree with more.
I don't really care about UEFA alignment - they've proven themselves to be corrupt to feck too.
By UEFA alignment I mean some kind of structure along side Cl qualification or similar if it remained, can’t just have 6 teams stinking up a league with it having no meaning to them

The prize money ratio is the same in the PL the winners win 1.5 times the bottom club
The difference there would be that there is then additional prize money for qualifying for CL/EL wouldn't there. Or a huge drop in prize money if relegated to the Championship etc

They won’t. They don’t refuse to play for racism I doubt they’d do it to protect Sky and the PL’s pockets.
They might.

I'm confident any action they decide to take will not be made with the interests of Sky, the PL bigwigs, the FA or any other off-field organization associated with the PL at heart.

Ok, and what...?

I mean, we knew they would reject the plans. But what's going to be done about it? I thought that's what we were going to hear about today from this meeting.

One way or another, there is no good way either side comes out of this. If the ESL clubs stop it, it will only be because UEFA/FA and co backed down to whatever demands those clubs wanted but if UEFA/FA and co kick them out then they have lost their cash cows. Their only hope is that governments etc. somehow stop it but can't see how without a massive legal fight

Starting to look a lot like we'll be the last ones standing from England in this, and while kicking 6 teams out of the PL might not be on the table kicking 1 out may well be :nervous:
A frightening prospect for sure, but I'm all for it if it finally rids us of the Glazers.

PL statement:
The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal.

The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously rejected the plans for the competition.

The Premier League is considering all actions available to prevent it from progressing, as well as holding those Shareholders involved to account under its rules.

The League will continue to work with key stakeholders including fan groups, Government, UEFA, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to protect the best interests of the game and call on those clubs involved in the proposed competition to cease their involvement immediately.

The Premier League would like to thank fans and all stakeholders for the support they have shown this week on this significant issue.

The reaction proves just how much our open pyramid and football community means to people.

But there'd probably be more prize money for the results in the knock-out stages and I'm sorry but if any of the teams that will take part in this competition get relegated by normal means from their national leagues (not banned) in the next twenty years I will buy everyone a drink on this forum.

I honestly can't see a scenario in which the players are going through with the ESL. As much as they like making money, 90% of them truly love the game and they care a great deal what the fans think of them. This move has clearly been in the works for a long time but I think the Founding Clubs seriously underestimated the incredible and unanimous backlash from the fans.

Even if the SL was the best idea in the world, the fact that players, managers and fans had no say or even acknowledged when making the decision is what ultimately everyone is rightly against. It's not a defence of UEFA really.

Asked if it was right he was the first person from the club to answer questions about the Super League, the Manchester City boss said: "It is an honour. I am a good spokesperson.

“Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], Jurgen [Klopp], Mikel [Arteta], Thomas [Tuchel] – we are all in the same position. We speak six times a week about everything, from COVID-19 to the NHS.

"I would love the president from this committee to go around the world and tell us why Ajax are not in there or whether they will be."
More detail from Pep. Good stuff!

Hope they make a audacious statement, I wouldn't be against threatening to relegate the top 6 to the lower leagues to make a strong point.
I wouldn't even threaten it, just do it. These 6 clubs all deserve it for the disruption caused to football over the last few days at the very least.

Good. One way this could be killed really quickly is for the players to strike/say they will not participate.

For sure it is unlikely to happen but that would be a big problem for the clubs if enough players did it.

The fact the ESL has been so transparent with everything tells me they just no nothing can stop them. They wouldn’t have been so brash or arrogant about it.

Ultimately nothing lasts forever. PL, CL, FA Cup etc are all private competitions in which private businesses participate in - they don't have to remain the same forever, and are subject to change or dissolution at any time - I think every fan needs to be aware of that, if the last few days haven't made this point crystal clear.
There is no guarantee that our favourite competitions will remain.

I disagree again.
There are many men or women out there right now that will be fighting for the good of football.
Then there are boys and girls like you that are just trying to shittalk the very players and people that are looking to do something.

  • A further 32.5 per cent would be distributed between all 20 participating teams, including the five sides invited to play in the competition each year

This part bothers me immensely, and needs to be clarified as soon as possible. The founder clubs receive this on top of the existing 32.5% share that they get just for being them. This means that the five clubs that are lucky enough to be 'invited' each receive a 1/20th share of 32.5%, which will obviously be welcome but will pale into comparison with what the others clubs that they are competing with will be receiving every single year. Obviously any club invited to play will have to withdraw from certain competitions that they would usually participate in, only to go back to those the following season if that invite isn't extended.

Since any non-participating clubs are already going to take significant hits in revenue due to falling TV contracts and prize money, then over time we will simply be seeing the club equivalent of a Luxembourg being thrown to the wolves, which to me raises the likelihood that this will become a club world cup and these five 'invites' will be offered to clubs outside of Europe.

The only way it will be stopped is by collective action from players.

If the players, not individuals, but as a group, say no, its done.

Without players, all the owners have is an an acre and a half of grass with some seats around it.
