He’s not going to take 4 RBs.

Seems Gareth is now naming just an extended squad tomorrow at 1pm but doesn't specify how many, the final 26 will now be announced on 1 June after looking at the Utd, Chelsea & City players involved in the European finals this week. My guess is that he is still unsure about whether to include Mason & Reece James and wants a final look at them both.

To be honest he could be looking at a few.

Rashford, Shaw, Maguire, Greenwood
Mount, James, CHO, Chilwell
Foden, Sterling

Shaw, Mount and Foden should be nailed on unless they pick up an injury. Sterling, Chilwell and James are probably in as well I’d think. Maguire - depends on injuries, like Henderson and Kalvin Phillips.

I’m hoping Greenwood and Phillips make it, I’d consider starting Phillips in a double pivot with Rice against Croatia, behind Mount and go 4-3-3.

Controversially, I’d take Dier as well, and not Coady and Mings.

Greenwood, Mings, Coady, Dier, Bamford, TAA, Trippier, Henderson (GK) seem to be the most up in the air. I would have liked some of the Burnley CBs to be in the mix, too. Bamford seems a long shot too…

I hope we take Greenwood. He'd be a great option to have on the bench if we're needing a goal.

Surely Jordan Henderson should not be going to the Euros? He’s hasn’t kicked a ball for months, and is not fecking Rooney or Beckham in any case. Gareth will pick him of course, and start him alongside Rice in a totally uninspiring midfield, but he shouldn’t be on the plane. England are not exactly short of options and he hasn’t played.

Can bring in 3 more players now.

Don’t get too excited about today. According to The Times this morning/ last night, Southgate will announce a provisional big squad and then trim it next week.

given we have concerns over Henderson, Maguire and have 11 players potentially playing in European finals this week - it makes sense, albeit is pretty shitty on those who don’t make the final cut.

I’m aware, but the three don’t have to include Jordan Henderson.
We don’t have a great deal of experience throughout the squad. I’m not a particular fan of Henderson, but with a 26 man squad, if he can prove reasonable fitness - then I think he should go.

Any idea how many he will name? Surely it will be no more than 30? With Henderson, Maguire, Pope and now Phillips injury doubts I do see the logic, even if it's annoying.

the times says he wants to give all the players in the EL and CL finals a week off - so with two friendlies coming up, he could be without 11 players from United, Chelsea and City. Then add in Phillips and Pope - it may well be above 30.

Cheers, I read the first friendly is on 2nd June and he's cutting the squad on 1st June, so surely those cut will go home? I guess we should at least have some clarity in his press conference later...I hope.

Why is Trippier viewed as the 4th choice RB? Hasn’t he been the most in form one this season? Also one of the better performing players from the last tournament too.

Reece James has been rotated out with CHO & Aszpi a lot.
Trent had a nightmare first half of the season and barely established himself in the England team in friendlies. Are we sure how good he is outside of the Klopp system?
Also Walker has been 2nd choice behind Cancelo for the most part.

Disgraceful is a bit of a stretch, if he's fit then he should be an automatic starter in midfield. There aren't many midfielders like him for England to pick. You need experience in competitions, and he's been a key part for Liverpool for a league title and a Champions League.
Maybe being a bit harsh but will be tough on people like JWP who have played well yet Henderson doesn't play for half of the season, is no where close to match fit yet comes back into the squad. As another poster pointed out above, with 26 he could be in.

I have to agree with this. Trippier has been in great form this season.

Probably because he doesn’t play in England & he’s older. Most fans have a massive PL bias. Ive seen some people name Lamptey in squads.

Meh, Henderson is in a different world to JWP as a player so it's not a big deal. For deeper squad players that logic holds, not for starters or fringe starters. Those guys should be in and starting game 1 as long as they prove themselves to be fit. Henderson is England's best deeper midfielder by a very long distance, it's a case of who should partner him.

Cancelo has played a lot at left back and Walker has had a strong finish to the season and good big game performances tbf. TAA also finished the season strongly and is generally the most talented of the bunch anyway. But yeah Trippier has also had a very good season. Reece James would probably be the luckiest to make it, though I do like him as he's an all rounder and his physicality and pace helps next to Stones.

Something seriously wrong with our midfield if we're considering taking Ward-Prowse. Happens every tournament, all the mid table fans clamour for their average players to be taken to a tournament and we end up with squads filled with Matty Upsons and Emile Heskeys.

For Mings and Coady it's more a case of who should be the back up CBs... Ben White looks like he might get the call so that's better anyway. After him, Tarkowski? Not sure there's much between them.

I think JWP is good and a real option for central midfield, admittedly an area we are not strong, especially if Jordan Henderson is injured. Better than Phillips IMO.

do you think the manager is influenced by Southampton fans ‘clamouring’ for a player to be included?

Who is the alternative?

Yeah, absolutely. Fan pressure is something I think every England manager runs afoul of. There's not a chance Connor Coady would've got a call up had there not been a social media movement from Wolves fans clamouring for him.

What, the alternative for Ward-Prowse? Phillips, Bellingham, Rice, Henderson, Mount. He's so average it's painful, should be nowhere near an England Euros squad. If we're taking Ward-Prowse we might as well take Winks and Barkley.

you’ve mentioned alternatives that are all in the squad? Who would you call up instead of him, who is not already there?

I wouldn't call anyone addtitional up, those I previously mentioned are the ones I'd take.

so he’s the best available. Can’t see the problem.
He isn't, very clearly and I think you know that but you're just being contrarian. I don't know if you seem to think my issue is with him being in the 33, it isn't, it was the insinuation he should be going over Henderson, which he shouldn't be.

I certainly take offence at your dismissive attitude towards smaller clubs.

Henderson goes if he’s fit.

I don’t understand slagging off players for not being good enough - but not suggesting anyone that’s better…

We're clearly going in circles here, I'm done with this conversation.

Surprised Maddison didn't make the 33, I'd certainly have had a look at him over the next week if I was Southgate
