DDG won't save a single pen

He doesn't exactly radiate confidence. Looked helpless at times.
Yeah this is my view, too. He just doesn't project any confidence or presence. Instead of making himself look big he just kind of gets swallowed up by the goal and then attempts half-hearted dives to his right. Their pens were all great tbf. It's just that he never looked close to one.

Its quite sad how the only way we were going to win that shootout was by them missing the goal entirely.

De Gea didn't even look like he believed he could save one.

Truly tragic and predictable display from him.

How do people on a forum understand that his technique for penalties is shit and he doesn't and his coaches don't?
We're all armchair managers apparently. The coaching staff just "knows".
Absolutely stupid.

I was shouted at during the pens by the lads I was watching the game with (all fellow United fans) because I knew that there was zero chance of De Gea saving a pen for us. Granted there were some pretty unstoppable kicks and I'm probably being overly critical due to the emotions involved, but it all just felt very predictable.

Should have just stood still. Better chance of saving.
Would've saved 3. Never seen a worse goalkeeper when it comes to penalties. Looks like the kid you pick last at school to go in goal. Seems to flop to the wrong side every time, usually giving himself away too early.

Poetic that he missed the only one as well. Ah well....

I get ridiculed for talking about technique but he has just has the absolute worst technique for a keeper at saving penalties. He either goes down too early or too late and goes with a weak hand. He wasnt saving one all night

Didn’t even look like he was trying to save them. Pathetic.

How horrible to have to put the blame on anyone but the weak link is undeniable. To score 10 penalties and not win is beyond cruel for everyone who scored.

We actually had posters defended his atrocious PK saves record before.

Feel bad for him, but honestly Ole should've pulled a van gaal here. De gea's record with penalties is awful. A youth keeper would have a better shot.

What a prophet, sadly this was one of those times I wish it would go wrong.

He had his hand on 2 pens. There were plenty in the middleish. 5 or 6 were great, but some of the rest he could have saved.

His decline is full in everything.

Some of you lots are a bit pathetic in trying to pin the blame on a keeper because he didn't save penalties as if those aren't mostly made due to luck.

Get a grip for feck sakes. We should have sought to win this game in regular playing time, not penalties. Us deciding to sit back and drop off in extra time instead of desperately trying to win and avoid penalties at all cost given we were supposed to be the better team with the better squad is what to blame, not the goalkeeper for failing to save penalties, something which is more akin to luck than any skills.

Lets in every single pen and then misses his own in a game where they only had one shot on target and scored from it. Actually not possible for him to have had a worse game.

Why is it a bloody stupid thread? He's shambolic at it. The way it he passively approach it is beyond ridiculous. Some of them were uncatchable but from 11 not catching a single one is clearly bad goalkeeping.
Their goalkeeper only saved one. And had a lot more saveable ones too.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Conceding 11 without a save in a shootout and then missing the decisive pen be the ultimate nightmare scenario for a goalie in a shootout.

I feel genuinely bad for him, that's utterly horrific luck.

Just the weirdest of techniques magnified tonight. Kind of collapses in a heap, looks tiny, has little to no spring, moves either too early or late, lacks scope, lacks decisiveness. Apart from that, he’s great and Ole did well to have him in nets for he shoot out.... as for the one he took, have you ever seen a GK not just blast it hard and straight. I despair.
