It was nice of Southgate to help us keep the price down to £73m.

£73m over 5 years of installments. Fixed fee with no add ons.

Pretty unbelievable deal really and doesn't have any major impact on our transfer budget. The club gets alot of stick but that's a cracking investment and a very United style signing.

Exciting stuff.

Watzke in the press conference that's just happened:
  • "A basic agreement has been reached, but a lot of details still have to be ironed out and this is not a completely done deal yet."
  • "It was the explicit wish of the player to move to United, and he has worked very diligently for us in the last 4 years. It always makes a difference if it is a player like this who has done so much for the club who approaches you with such a request."

Wonder if this means we can afford to give Rashford an extended break and arrange for his operations to fix his niggling injuries. Would love to see us trial a front three of Sancho - Cavani - Greenwood for a period.

I can see him start for us on the left at the start of the season.

@Pexbo all the gems are in old thread, how Sancho will cost much more than 120 million this season after he shows his class in Euros and all that.

Somehow this sentence doesn't sound right

Surely it must be "and " instead of "but".
I thought that first when I read it as though he was complaining about the fee.

But I think he's more saying "we are not happy about receiving a lot of money, rather we are sad that the player is leaving and would've preferred to keep him over any money".

Right, but do they really consider this a lot of money compared to last year demands?

Absolutely delightful that even Dortmund feel like they've been robbed.
They can do one, their entire business model is centred around prizing away young talents from clubs all over Europe on the cheap and selling them on at an obscene profit.

I think it’s just a poorly translated sentence to be honest and meant to read/mean something like, “We aren’t happy to sell the player/we don’t need the money etc. and sad that he’s leaving us” rather than Dortmund thinking they are being fleeced.

If they felt that, the deal wouldn’t have been agreed. All parties can be satisfied, I reckon.

It's also great that by all accounts Sancho really wanted to become a Manchester United player.

A similar sort of showing to this season, really. Probably a bit more consistency. I expect us to challenge for the title, but I don't genuinely think we can win it, to be honest. I'm just not convinced Ole, and still some of these players, have it in them to go that extra mile from being a team who play good football in bunches to becoming a consistent machine over the course of 38 matches. Maybe I'm just being pessimistic. I don't mean to dog on Solskjaer, I do like the guy, but I just think there's a tier he's not in in comparison to Klopp, Pep, and Tommy Too Cool.

Stilll... Varane + Sancho + a new CM (feck knows who, someone who can pass and has positional discipline) is the manager very much backed, and a title challenge should be the bare minimum. A Carabao or an FA Cup wouldn't go amiss either. It's a hotly contested topic on Redcafe, but we've not a trophy since 2017.
I can see what you mean. It'll be interesting to follow as an outsider. I'm obviously not happy you've just landed one of the best young talents in world football, but now that's it's been confirmed, it's going to be exciting to watch him every week in this league.

I think it should be “we are happy with the money but sad that he’s leaving”. Would be very weird if they are not happy with a deal they just made and said so publicly.

I reckon it means no amount of money what have made them happy and they would have preferred keeping Sancho

It has been 13 years since we last signed a right-winger. Signing right wingers is not the United Way!
