United are more interested in using Lingard as part of a deal to potentially bring in Declan Rice. The contemplation that you're referring to was based on a Daily Star report that is currently deleted from their site (i.e. not reliable at all). Otherwise, the extra funds via sales would be needed to make a 3rd signing. We have enough for a 2nd signing, which is why we're in talks for Raphael Varane instead of looking for cheaper options.
This should be the "norm" for UTD not a surprise or a "one-off"
