Good riddance if so. Harsh, but in the end he's a hot and cold player that's on the second spectrum way more often than on the first. All the best.

He scored a flurry of goals right after project restart when teams were in a bit of disarray which made his goal tally for the season look respectable, 3 of them in one game against Sheff Utd, but to say he was better than Rashford and Greenwood for that entire season is something I cannot agree with. He was hit and miss for most of that season like he always is. And may I remind you that he cost us the europa league semi final against sevilla that season missing some absolute sitters in front of the goal, and then did the same thing the following season against PSG and in lots of other games until Ole finally lost patience with him.
This is one thing to be added. His goal per shot ratio used to be insane but it went to hell last season. Sign of a player completely out of focus.

Maybe we should loan martial out, ideally do a loan swap where we get a player in return on loan in position that can fill a void for the season like a midfielder or right back.

Definitely think martial should be loaned out though if we don't find any respectable buyers for him, we have to stop this complacency at the club of holding onto players for too long to the point of them having little resale value.
Straight swap for Varane. He doesn't need loaning, he needs to find a happy place to get the best out of him. I guess Manchester isn't that place. There's a very good player in there somewhere, but getting it on a consistent basis has proven difficult.

Martial on form can be pretty lethal, I do not think we should give up on him. If he can discover his form, the pace on the counter and breaks would be too much for any defense to handle. In form Martial, Sancho and Rashford on the counter is possibly the deadliest combo in world football.

That would make bad business for United. Strikers usually cost more and especially one that has a multi-year contract left to run. Varane has a year left and seems unwilling to sign an extension.

The big reason Rashford isn’t the player he was is because he has been played into the ground and hasn’t been allowed to rest injuries and get back to 100% in years.

Then the forum want to sell his only decent backup after getting out first right winger in 10 years.

Let’s keep a squad together lads so we can compete across the board and give players a break when they need it!

He isn’t a CF but he can certainly contribute as a squad player on that left hand side.

Would be a shame to lose him, on his day he's still a quality LW. He's just a very average no.9 and trying to shoehorn him into that role has done him no favours. He's a wide attacker plain and simple.

The problem is that he fancies himself as the main striker even though his best plays generally comes from the wing with his take-ons and dribbling ability. It was obvious that he was unfocused and generally disinterested during the time when Zlatan was here and his number taken away.

Either he puts in the effort required to be the main central striker, or he accepts that his current strengths makes him a better FW or FL than a FC.

United need to learn from their mistake with Martial and sell Lingard while they can. Martial was great 2 seasons ago and should’ve been sold the second they had a buyer (obviously easier said than done considering the state of the world then). Now, Lingard’s value is through the roof (relative to him historically) and there are people who still want to keep him.

Not only do we get sweet sweet money in a transfer deal, we also get to unload more wages rather than paying someone to sit on the bench. Should do the same with Martial if we get another forward. Otherwise, keep him for depth and sell him once his value goes up again. Never sell low when you can avoid it

And how much would you value Martial at?
Maguire and Pogba are our most expensive signings, so maybe it's not strikers anymore?
Varane is supposed to be valued around 40 million, I'd say we'd be getting approx the same amount for Martial if we choose to part ways with him.

If Varane is valued by RM at 40M with a year's left in his contract and his unwillingness to sign an extension; I would start by asking for 20M plus Varane for Martial (but take 10M.)

Then we show him this video (worth a watch, in case we have all forgotten):

If we lose him, it would be the equivalent of watching your ex-gf fecking another guy, live!

Martial is just not the type of player that can be a back up. So it wouldn't make sense. He's better off at a club that plays him all the time and where there is less pressure

I would keep him and sell James. Atleast for another year.
I agree. Especailly if Pogba goes. Say Cavani does his hamstring and Rashford is out of form or injured, we are relying for a month or two on Greenwood up front and a youngster or James on the wings with no Martial.

I am all for selling Martial, but now seems the wrong time. He offers an experiencd option up front and on the left should it be needed. Although he has been underwhelming here generally and the work rate and attitude seem slacking, on form he is still a talented player. We have probably a final season from Cavani now who for all of his wonerful contribution, still didnt play a huge number of games.....and he is now older and in Greenwood a hugely talented player that needs time to show if he can make the CF spot his over the next couple of years (and he also may be needed as cover on the flanks at times).

Lets wait until next summer when striking sales and purchases are likely to be our priority.

Sell him and get Dominic-Calvert Lewin! I think this would be an ideal player for us ...

His dribbling was probably his only stand out attribute for me tbh and I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly, but I just feel like it's not as special as it use to be. It may be because he's put on some size, but his dribbles look a lot more laboured, less nimble/agile.

He will get game time this season, mainly cause Cavani is too old, but if Greenwood can't grow into a CF, we need to look for one. He isn't a player that can be relied on as a squad option given his temperament and how hot and cold he blows, nor is he good enough to start for us unfortunately.

Wonder if we might be interested.

Problems can be giving him enough minutes and his wages though.

We'll sell two strikers probably, Tuchel must be thinking we're light up front.

Werner might come going but I wouldn't be betting on it.

Just no.

He isn't good enough technically for any top team, he's also very streaky and goes missing a lot.

Werner at his current level is still far more influential than Martial would be. Werner does a lot of good stuff off the ball, that is arguably the weakest part of Martial's game. I don't think it's down to anything more than application. He was very clearly talented, but I think he was alright with just being an okay player.

Keep him for one more season and assess the situation at the end of next season. Maybe Greenwood will grow into a starter during the course of next season or maybe Martial will return to form but if any or both scenarios come true we save a lot of money on a new striker.

Having Cavani around insulates us from Martial's apparent unreliability but it also allows us the space to blood Greenwood into the No.9 role. Next summer we can either buy a starter or a back up to Greenwood should he fail to grasp his opportunity whilst also selling Martial.

If we sell him this season we will need some form of replacement and it's highly unlikely that we will get much from him given how last sellomeeason went meaning that we will need to invest a considerable sum into his replacement in a window where we also need a CB and a DM after forking out £70m on Sancho and spending a season and a half playing in an empty stadium. It's just not doable.

If we lose him, it would be the equivalent of watching your ex-gf fecking (the kind who just lies there and doesnt do anything, and then sulks afterwards because she didnt get hers) another guy, live (with him also looking frustrated afterwards)!

250k a week for a player who subpar and personifies everything wrong about Utd and the drop in standards since fergie left. Get rid of.

The good thing about Sancho signing is it makes Martial a squad rotation option. Rashford will probably need a surgery, meaning Martial can probably start on the left at the beginning of the next season. With him in the squad, the options should be Rashford/Martial for lw, Cavani/Greenwood for st, Sancho/Amad for rw which seems perfect to me. When we are chasing a goal, I would feel more confident to see Martial coming from the bench rather than James. Plus, Martial can cover striker position if required.

Is Saka going to even get into our team though? Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho are better than him and he'd just be taking minutes from Amad.

Cavani is 34 going on 35. Greenwood has probably started about 5 games in his top flight career as a #9. We can't rely on those two for our only striker options.
We cant rely on martial either.

You need depth to compete with City, but how do you compete with that kind of money?
We really haven't spent all that much less than City have the past few years. They've just spent it better. Not to add, their far better coaching and management probably has a part to play too.

The Real fans would eat him alive too.

If we could use him in a swap deal, it'd be great. Pipe dream though.

No one is paying his wages. It was completely ludicrous he got those wages on the back of Joel Glazer thinking he'd be a Ballon D'Or winner.

He had the worst individual season of any United attacker I've ever seen. I'd get rid as soon as we can. Those wages being freed up will do us a lot of good too.
