Because he's a very good player who not only has had a great season but has also played well for Southgate in previous games.
No I get that he’s been great for Chelsea. I just don’t see what Southgate is using him for in this tournament.

There's a weakness down the Walker/Stones side of the defence for sure.

Did Reece James die? That is the only reason he shouldn't be in over Walker.

He needs support from Walker. I worry if our RB, AWB, wont do enough and leave him alone up there
Walker tends to pass it back or to the midfielder rather than place it at the feet of the winger. Same problem I noticed with Saka, didn’t get enough support from Walker especially in second half

Walker is shit. Giving the ball away, passes going into opposition players, messing things up…

What is the point in Walker. Everything dangerous is coming down his side.

Grealish and Rashford will come on in the second half when Ukraine are all knackered, get a goal or assist and people will use it as a reason to knock Southgate, even though that's what the plan is.
Yup.

Southgate's got a simple strategy, but with the players at his disposal, they can put it into action really really well.

My wit's end
James is miles better than Walker.

I get it to a degree. Walker's recovery pace will save England a couple of times per match. But his sloppiness will cost them 4 or 5 times per match. He's not worth the pay off.
