I think we got a good chance, depending on other teams not having a 90+ pts season

I predicted we would finish above Liverpool last season and was correct, so I know what I’m doing.

It depends on transfers, I think we will get Varane but I just think our squad is not only going to have enough quality next season, I think it’s also going to be the hungriest. I think Liverpool are over the hill and Man City are going to be flat next season. I think we will be around 6-8 points clear in April. Quote me.
Predicting one result doesn't make you a expert but certainly hope your right even though it's a bold call. You state we win win the league and but state in depends on transfers? Which one is it?

Our team not yet good enough to win the league. Let's wait and see how it goes in transfer market before such a bold statement.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever. I'm used to watching the games out in the open with a cold drink in my summer dress. This WC I'll be wrapped up in my blanket sipping hot chocolate while I freeze my ass off.
By December 2022, and with global warming, you probably will still have your summer dress on.

Too early to say. With Sancho, I think our front 4 stacks up against anyone, as currently constituted. It may even be better than everyone. With Varane or another top CB reinforcement, our back 4 should hold their own against pretty much everyone too. The big question mark is central midfield, where we are currently not on par with the main competitors.

We'll see how things look when the transfer window closes.

YOu must be a genius then to have realised Liverpool were going to have a massive injury crisis as that obviously affectde there season hugely. I didn tthink Chelsea would compete for the title with all there new signings as some like Werner and Ziyech I thought were over rated.....but they now have an experienced manager and the signings have had a season to settle in so you would expect both sides to be better next season than they were last.

I think the main thing to consider though is the points totals that have won the league the last three years. It really doesnt matter who we sign, beatign those points totals is a mammoth task, lets not forget disregarding performances etc etc we went the whole season last year unbeaten away from home which is amazing......and were still quite a long way short.

There is no doubt this looks like being a very good window for us, but sounds a bit folly and naive to me that you are convinced we will be 8 points clear as you were so correct in us finishing ahead of Liverpool last season when there best player was out for the vast majority of the season. Time will tell

I have a point to make, well a question really - ideally I would be putting this in the current affairs section, but as I'm quite new here, I don't have the privilege yet.

I watched the 5pm News briefing earlier and have followed it up with some internet research and I'm afraid this Corona thing has some way to go, Johnson and Witty and the other guy looked most sombre tonight and I fear the opening up is only because it is already happening unofficially and they can't really back-track now. My online research revealed there is yet another new variant of concern called Lamda originating from Peru and it is supposed to be the worst one yet.

So my question is this: if come November/December we do have to close things down again - specifically football stadiums to fans, will that be a help or a hindrance to Manchester Utd. You certainly seemed to benefit last season with a record breaking away streak, that I'm sure had something to do with empty grounds. In addition, how many times did you come back from losing positions last season, so many - I bet when going a goal behind in front of 70,000 fans, it might not have been so easy.... could empty grounds help you, or do the opposite, in achieving what this thread suggests?

If we sign Varane, Camavinga and get in a backup RB (unless we keep Dalot) AND keep Pogba, I don't see why not we can be optimistic as fans to believe we can win the title.

However, it also depends what the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea do in the window too. What if they end up strengthening more than us? City are heavily linked with Kane and Grealish, I doubt they get both but even if they get 1 of the 2 that is a massive upgrade on what they have right now and with their financial power they most likely won't stop there. Chelsea will clearly want to strengthen and I'm not sure how Liverpool will do in the window but even if they don't sign anyone of genuine quality, they will have the likes of VVD, Gomez and Matip back, so they will most likely do better this season as well.

Unfortunately, I feel we will fall short at the end :( but on a positive, I'm more confident than probably the last 6-7 seasons that we would get at least top 4. Also our squad is still so young and has so much potential it would only get better compared to some of our rivals. If we can challenge right until the end and maybe come within 6-8 points of the PL, pick up a trophy and play a more exciting & consistent style of football, I would take that and build on it for the following season and then try to challenge!

This is the most confident I have been post-Fergie but let's see our squad come the end of the summer transfer window!

No we won’t. Teams like us with managers who have no distinct style of play, that rely on individual brilliance, game after game, will get found out. There’s a reason why we can’t break down low block teams. We’ll finish second at best.

Never gonna happen under Ole.
Yep, personnel wise I think you're a GK and attacking RB away but i think you need a new manager to fully bare the fruits of it.

Solskjaer reminds me a bit of Ranieri's spell with us, done well to build a side and get a certain level of consistency but his lack of ruthless edge to make that final step is there for all to see, like Claudio when the medals are on the line he seems to either freeze or make bizzare decisions (although he hasn't quite yet gone to Hasselbaink at RB levels as far as I'm aware).

You'll get top 4 again and most likely comfortably, but OGS outsmarting all 3 of Pep, Klopp and Tuchel over a 38 game season? I just can't picture it.

The only question that really remains is who can be your peak Jose?

Even if we bring in Varane and Camavinga - after having brought in Sancho -- and keep Pogba either both City and Liverpool still have the edge on us on paper. But we'd no doubt be close enough where good fortune could tip it our way.

But just as we expect players like Pogba and Maguire to finally perform at a consistently high level (no more half-seasons, please), Ole has to do his part and be braver with his in-game management. He spots good players in the transfer market and he sets us up well but he's too slow to react to in-game circumstances.

In that case, no way Liverpool and their aging lineup have the edge on United.

You just jinxed us by saying this. Usually you have to hold your breath and see what happens first few games then say stuff like this.

If we get Varane after Sancho, I think the only thing lacking for a serious title challenge regardless of what others do would be fixing our midfield 2 (just getting the right partner for Fred really). But I don't see a lasting title challenge or challenging on all fronts without sorting out the midfield properly. Needs balance, both in the ball passing up to the attack, and defensively.

Wish I could be this optimistic. No proper pre-season for half the squad, some probably not even available for the first few matches. There's some at the olympics even? I think Leeds are gonna run us into the ground on opening day, and it'll all just be a struggle for 4th from there. I'd be surprised to see us in front of any of City, Chelsea and Liverpool. I'm usually extremely wrong though, so here to hoping my run continues.

if we get varane and a midfielder we would have a strong squad good enough to win it. thats of course not saying that we win something as there are enough contenders with city chelsea and pool

Depends on Kane. If he goes to MC then they win the PL pretty easily. And if we finish 8 points or so off Ole should stay. I know some of you will be clamoring to fire him but it's kind of hard to beat a team that is simply better in so many positions and with the best striker in the land.

If we can get in some quality players outside of Sancho I don't see why we can't be right up there. We need 3-4 players of top quality to really push us over the edge. Love him or hate him, Ole is trying to get players in.

I think we already have a squad that could have won the league last season, mostly because City were not as good as everyone thought and Liverpool collapsed as soon as VVD got injured. Based on that I don’t think we will win the league this year. I think it’s a mixture of mentality amongst the players and manager where draws are not viewed as defeats, and maybe tactics and motivation
from manager and players to turn draws into wins. Because of that i think we will keep falling short of where we should which is winning the league if we add Varane and Cavaminga to
Sancho

I'll keep saying it but a good CB signing and getting the right midfielder to give us balance in the pivot in midfield and we can challenge any club regardless of signings they make. A summer of Sancho, Varane and Locatelli for example and I'd expect a challenge even if City got both Kane and Grealish. We just need to fill our gaps and once we do we'll be up there.

Imagine this thread getting bumped throughout the season for all the wrong reasons, then we still win it like predicted. @esmufc07 should get a Knighthood in that case.
