Prolific diver  love that phrase.

His stamina is on 99lvl.
He works incredibly hard and has a great engine indeed, but I can't really respect the constant diving and it taints him as a player. It's the same reason I can never warm to Neymar either. Salah is another, great player but an absolute cheat when it comes to trying to win pens and free kicks.

It's the fact he can play from the right which is why Saka has no right being in the team

Sterling from the right and then one of the countless other options from the left would have made England a far bigger attacking threat in this tournament

He's a diving cnut.

Always was and Always will be.

The fact he's doing it for England now is clouding your judgment.
Wait till he does it on Old Trafford.

Still the best, he even ran his heart out to kill them off but the rest decided to not risk it.

Sorry for me thats a mixed game. Once again many chances in good positions to play the ball to a teammate to continue a building move, instead he messes up the pass or loses the ball just trying to run it all the time. Missed a sitter too. Kept trying and was in the box to force the OG and won a penalty, which didnt have a lot of contact.

He's the England player who gets all the chances to mess up, then finally gets one right and all is forgiven

Unless England lose big on the Final, Sterling is player of the tournament.

Being from Liverpool and City, hard to like him but he has been head and shoulders Englands best player, with the 2 United boys doing decent.

Everyone does this now, with a few exceptions. I don’t really care if people go down easily. It is annoying to watch I guess if it happens repeatedly, but players do it because there’s an advantage to be gained.

Also players like Neymar and Grealish do it because they get fouled all the time and want to draw attention to that fact. Why do we never get mad at the hatchet men that try to stop skilful players playing?

Everyone does it and this makes it OK? Even so, the likes of Neymar, Sterling and Salah take it to the next level where they are constantly trying to con the referee and I find this malicious.

There are no brutes left in the game like pre
90s, defenders can't even get away with the softest of challenges these days.

I hate him losing the ball when its easy to make a better choice and find a teammate rather than losing the ball going down a blind alley. I hate it from other players too but for England only one player does this over and over again

Personally think the back four are the stand out players for England so far this tournament. WOuld have included Pickford but he hasnt been great the last couple of games. I think Kyle Walker was player of the match today, defensively he was absolutely superb.

As for Sterling, he was very much one of the players personally I was totally against starting for us. I actually think the group games he was decisive of course with his goals and good runs behin the defence....but apart from that was actually poor, holdin gon to the ball too long and often giving it away. But credit to him, he has kept his head down and I think he has been really good AND decisive in the knockout stages.

WIthout wishing to look critical or negative.....personally still not convinced by Phillips as a starter for the final. Really like how he comes across as a person in interviews an dhe is a good player....but he does seem over eager to me winning the ball over commiting himself and often getting rolled and bypassed. I worry about him aainst that Italy midfield

It really is a skill to seem light as a feather as you fly into a dive, yet also seem as heavy as a sack of potatoes when you hit the ground. Fantastic dive, had all the elements you’d want really.

You find it malicious, I don’t particularly care about it.

Player of the tournament, though England will probably need to win it for him to collect.

In answer to the thread title question, it’s either him or Kane. England have a lot of good players but those two are the best. I think this tournament has made that pretty clear.

Southgate wants the work rate. You’re probably right though. Take the handbrake off. He’s not going to against Italy is he?

this tournament hasn’t made clear that Kane is one of England’s best players. Far from it.

Kane has done ok. He’s still out best striker, obviously - but nowhere near one of our best players based on Euro2020.

I feel like I’m going mental. Performance wise Sterling hasn’t had a good tournament, yet everyone wants him knighted.

Sterling is light years away from his best form of a couple years ago, the last two appearances have been better but still not spectacular - before that he was genuinely our worst player on the pitch in each game.

Shaw, Philip, Maguire, Saka, Rice, Stones have all been far better than Sterling for me.

A couple of years ago he was the best English player. He isn’t now though.

You can name so many defensive players, but hardly any attacking players because Sterling is literally carrying England's offence at the moment. Without him you probably lose to Germany.

Because of Southgates fear mongering anti-football. The attack is completely isolated.

He’s scored more goals in major tournaments than any other England player apart from one. He was very good last night in the biggest game England have had for three years. He’s either England’s best or second best player.

How has Saka been better? Sterling one of the highest rated on whoscored, averages 3 dribbles per game, 85% pass completion, 1.2 tackles per game (similar to Shaw)

apparently Saka loses it more........
EDIT: Grealish has lost the ball 17 times in 150mins, and made 10 unsuccessful passes.
Sterling has lost the ball 75 times in 521mins and made 27 unsuccessful passes.

Thought sterling was fantastic last night. Some of his runs forward were brilliant. Think he's gotten better and better as the tournament has gone along.

He’s played average and scored goals. He’s played superb without scoring goals.

Probably player of the tournament if England win it all.

Player of the tournament will be Jorginho though.
