Yeah it's kind of ridiculous. I guess it didn't help that he came after the 82 vintage which boasted a plethora of gloriously talented central midfielders. I'm actually really curious to go and watch his 1990 WC performances in isolation, to see if they were actually that bad. Funnily enough, thinking about it now, Dunga is probably the last great CM to emerge from Brazil (& his partner Mauro Silva).

McCall continues to impress @Gio , glad he carried his club form at international level as well. Gary Neville probably MOTM, in every game i watch that he is involved he is one of the standout performers, its actually insane. In the sea of underrated United players he is near the top, some like Scholes are rated in the general chit chat but get feck all credit in draft games; some like Becks are underrated in chit chat yet get credit in drafts, have a feeling poor Gaz is taking Ls on both ends.
On the other end of the spectrum, Shearer was a disappointment, he scored a goal but added very little, for someone that is talked in the same breath as Henry and co. withing the PL you would expect more even on a bad day - and if im not mistaken, that Euro is on of his strong points when it comes his evaluation.
It's a disappointing and yet incredible video at the same time — you wonder, how can a 31 years old footballer be so unfit (I doubt that he ran even 5 km in that game), but you still get to see those bits of magic that made George Best the best. His passing was especially impressive.
Edit: although upon watching it, you don't really get the full understanding of just how unfit and static he was, his heat map would've been barely visible somewhere in the spot behind the striker, both in attacking & in defensive phases of the game.
Keane's performance against the Dutch in the 02 WC qualifiers is pretty much well known, but he was immense in the 02 WC qualifier against Figo's Portugal as well. Such a shame how it all eventually turned out at the 2002 WC though...
One of my favorite performances of Baggio personally, as he gives new meaning to the phrase 'gliding across the pitch gracefully'.
The match conditions were absolutely horrific to say the least. -3°C, icy pitch, the ball bouncing like a basketball and with the players sliding and slipping about and generally looking like statues stuck in ice, unsure about their footing.
Not Baggio though, as he went about waltzing around the Dynamo defense with feints, mazy dribbles and a brilliant turn of pace. Just phenomenal...
Yet another assured performance at the RWB position and against Maldini (& Benarrivo who replaced Maldini midway into the 1st half due to an injury), in this pivotal WC qualifier.
Was rather surprised by the reception Beckham got as a RWB in the recent draft match tbh. Think he'd probably play best as a RWB in the modern game myself.

. Was edging towards your side though, as I loved your use of Dunga and Beckham, although would have preferred a relatively more conventional option to Litmanen. Physio had an excellent side too and I could see Vieiri getting some joy with his WBs and Rivaldo, but the midfield duo wasn't all that for me, esp against the midfield of yours.Wanted to say my piece about Becks but didn't quite get the time and the match was over by then unfortunately.

Forensic reading of the game stands out once again. Particularly impressed with his powers of recovery saving near-certain goals at 2.53 - covering for Staunton’s double brainfart - and at 5.30. Plus his general bossing of Rui Costa throughout.

If i included most moves i include for others, vid would be 3x longer as there isnt a second of the 90 minutes where he wasnt fully focused and aware whats happening, scanning and screening all the time and pretty much doing basic stuff but just on a much larger scale to anyone else i seen, absolute cheat mode of a player.

Great swivel and a volley for his goal but that tackle on Stojkovic at 4.30 was a real peach.
Not peak Gazza but an excellent performance nonetheless. Turned poor Albertini inside out a couple of times and was even cheered on by the Italian faithful. Was relatively quieter in the second half with England settling for a draw and not showing much intent on or off the ball.
Albertini's one of the biggest midfield overachievers of the last few decades, an example of how in that 80s-90s Italian league enviroment(especially during the foreigner limit years) foreign players would often need to be 2-3 times better than an italian teammate to get into the team. to be fair to him he did get better around that 96/97-00 period, but no way he deserved to be in the team so often for the years before that.
Aye, because he featured in one of the recent draft matches I looked it up, but a quality player like Boban was limited to only 12 starts in the 1992-93 season, presumably because of the foreigner limit, with the likes of Evani and Albertini racking up appearances ahead of him. Albertini was no donkey in fairness, just underwhelming given the quality around him.
Taking it off topic a tad, the last few times I've watched a match of Sacchi's Milan I've been impressed with Ancelotti. Similar in style, role and status to Albertini, but he impressed me much more.
Lots of lovely flashes of genius in there, particularly like the chest and touch at 0.50. Invaluable having a player like that to relieve the pressure when you go away to Rome in a crunch World Cup qualifier. Especially for a country notoriously bad at taking the sting out of games by keeping the ball.
Must be the last standout performance of his career. That game in October 1997 was sandwiched by his only goals of the season for Rangers. He must have got his shit together for one last hurrah, then the demons became too much. Hoddle was right not to take him to France the next summer - he went downhill rapidly after this game. While it gave space for Scholes to come into the midfield, it was a shame as I don't feel England really controlled games on the ball at the World Cup, but a Scholes/Gazza/Ince trio might have been a more proactive unit and one that probably doesn't go down to Romania in the group stages, which then keeps them in the easier half of the draw, to avoid the road to hell that was Argentina > Holland > Brazil > France.
Definitely. Didn't look out of place in that team at all, which is as good of a compliment as you can give to a footballer, really.
Agreed, Carlo easily the better player then Albertini

While doing regular compilations you see a lot of cool and funny stuff that mostly get lost so decided to create one channel for only those, was thinking of that for a while but after this beauty by Dugarry i had to pull the trigger
Vintage eighties footie featuring Souness, Keegan, Waddle, Beardsley amongst others. Atmosphere was absolutely electric.
For the longest time i had Ibra as the most overrated player ever but after going through Carlos footage in more detail, im on the verge of changing my opinion. For someone with such reputation its hilarious that is impossible to find one great performance against a top side, feck great id settle with just good because every single performance is sealed with a Roberto Carlos Special - at least one absolutely moronic decision.
What was on the Menu for France on that glorious night where only Cafu showed up for brazilians:
- First goal - can easily clear the ball and kick it to a throw in - ding ding ding - goes to prepare it for a overhead kick, fecks up, gives a corner away from which Zidane scores; 1:0
- Second goal - stands on the first post during a corner, Zidane heads the ball through him; 2:0
- Remember Kroos laughing at Lukaku for his offside run in that friendly against Madrid? Where this isnt much different, Carlos stepping up for an offside instead of doing a recovery run in a situation where his teammate is miles behind him: luckily Dugarry misses a sitter.

Not the best stuff from Vieri, showed some nice hold up play and interplay with Juninho but Canizares killed him or to be precise, poor finishing killed him. Given he did very little defensive wise and considering he was against a rather average CB pair i expected a bit more though if im not mistaken it was day 1 of the season so knowing Vieri he probably wasnt fully fit.
Wonderful, wonderful performance. He spends the first 70-ish minutes as a proper wide midfielder on the right before being pushed centrally for endspiel. Madrid were brutally kicking him all game — he won about 9 or 10 fouls, usually after bad tackles as well! Some crisp passing, pressing, tackling, getting goalscoring chances and, well, a goal to boot.
Thought maybe i was unfair picking only top games for Carlos so picked a game that has meaning as its a derby but its against much lesser opponent - and the outcome was different, closest thing to a good game so far, if we push it we can call it a good game. Only one brainfart defensively(thankfully for Carlos, Vieri had a shocker in front of goal) and tbf one great piece of defending as well. Did little to nothing in final third but two things were he always impresses he did it again - overlaps and passing.
Shaw is better than him.

Also had a vital last second stealing of the ball against Cuelemans after one of his rampaging runs.
