Son of Southgate, utterly ludicrous how long he stayed on while Grealish, Foden and Sancho sat on the bench.

Wouldn't have missed his pen like Rashford and asscho

Mount had the entire last 2,5 years of Lingard for United summed up in this tournament. Ran about doing feck all otherwise. Lost the duel with Verratti that led to the equalizer also, just to top it off.

He’d a shocking tournament. Has to be the most overrated player around at the moment.

Tbf, he is a pretty good penalty taker, could've done with him at the end. Southgate had to sub on two cold players and force a CB to go second as he had taken off two of our best penalty takers in Trippier and Mount.

Honestly thought our entire midfield was poor. Rice, Phillips, and Mount were just outclassed. Don't rate the first two, but Mount clearly is a good player who will go on to have a very good career.

Not saying he has played well but stop suggesting Foden should start ahead of him. Foden had a chance to nail a spot and failed emphatically.

Boy might have talent but isn’t ready to play in a side which limits his strengths. He can’t play a disciplined role hence why he is more of a forward for City.

Sancho is a winger, why would he play instead of Mount. If you think he isn’t as creative then go back and look at the season stats. Mount was 3rd most creative player or something, can’t remember the exact stats.

Also fed up with all this Grealish love. He plays similar to Hazard but when Hazard wins free kicks it was diving and when Grealish wins free kicks it’s great play. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Foden should always be ahead when fit. Give him or Grealish the amount of game time and starts Mount had and they'd put him to shame.

Man Utd has TWO players miss their penalties and somehow this is Mount’s fault.

Not a good game for him. Grafted, but didn't really influence the game which you have to as the attacking member of this particular midfield makeup. Seems to get in the side on the strength of his tactical play and pressing rather than contributions on the ball which is a bit of a problem when he's the man expected to link things and be a threat.

should be banned, all Chelski fans do not deserve to talk about football in the first place. They should be banned from every online platform.

You could see the difference in quality once Grealish came on. One of many bizarre decisions by Gareth

Will get away with any major criticism because of the obvious penalty misses, but my god was he awful in both the semi and the final. In a side so stacked, it’s beyond me how he continuously gets first team football for England

Players miss penalties all the time..but being shocking for 90 minutes straight for 2 matches straight is on Mount and Southgate

Not good on the ball tonight but thought he did a great job of nullifying Jorginho, which was his main task. Should have stayed on for penalties IMO.

This was always gonna happen because he assisted the winning goal in the CL final. Obviously Southgate was going to start him.

How can that possibly be his main task? We have two holding midfielders and wing backs. His main task is to influence the game and his secondary function is to stop their deep playmaker from playing. This has been part of the job description for any second striker/attacking midfielder since the roles were invented, it doesn't absolve you from any attacking responsibility.

I don’t think so. Even when England attacked he was consistently used as a decoy for Sterling, Kane and Shaw. He was secondary in attack. Look at the game again and see how he priorities to stay close to Jorginho rather then stay in positions where he can attack once England win the ball. Clearly his number one job was defending their main man.

He was fine the first two games. Look back at the match threads for those games. The overall consensus was that he was among our best attackers. Clearly hasn't been the same since returning from isolation.

If so that is an indictment on Southgate as it leaves so few threats on the pitch. However I simply do not agree that it can be the case. I think he was just a non-entity so we have to say his main job was to disrupt the opposition as what else can be pointed to within that performance. I don't doubt this function was why he was picked over the alternatives but I'm afraid that was a terribly lacklustre performance from an attacking midfielder.

Bit harsh to level this much criticism at Mount when he was having to drop into midfield for half the game to make up the numbers there - don't think Grealish or Foden have the capability when out of possession.

Thought Kane was far worse and was the far bigger problem - he had zero touches in the penalty area and kept dropping into the zones Mount wanted to occupy. I'd say for me that fundamental incompatibility was the bigger problem with the England setup more so than any individual failings on Mount's part.

Good player but completely misused in this setup. Couldn't get near the ball with the midfield of Rice and Phillips.
