Well, you said that whites complaining about being racially attacked is bonkers. And then you call people 'morons'.
It is bonkers. Calling someone an "English bastard" in no way shape or form, is comparable to being called a "black bastard", for example.

One Carries the weight of hundreds of years of systemic racism, abuse, slavery, bigotry, prejudice and hate.

The other is, maybe, barely a light version of xenophobia, at best.

Whites do not experience racism on the same level, same severity, same meaning of actual racism, if at all.

White people, claiming they are victims of racism, is the definition of gaslighting. It deliberately undermines hundreds of years of oppression, bigotry and hatred. People who do this, do it with the intention of antagonising and belittling the struggle of POC.
This is mental. As other have pointed out racism is not exclusive to one race.

You are, of course, right.

Whatever you think of broader definitions of racism, claiming to be victim of racism, because England lost a game and you can't take a bit of banter coming back at you, is weak and an insult to anyone who experienced real racism, as it trivializes their ordeal.

I absolutely agree if it is just a jab at this situation. A small percentage of people were really tying their venom to English in general. Why else bring up colonialism and such. I do believe the vast majority, including my few comments, were just silly jabs to get a rise out of English supporters. I am a USA supporter….thick skin required!!!

Yup, agree here tbf. There's a really interesting book called 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race' that touches on this. It's a book that really opened my eyes to a lot of problematic assumptions/patterns of thought that I'd had. None 'racist' but many unintentionally steeped in problematic colourblindness discourse.

Bringing up incidents of the past may not always be a nice thing to do, but it's not racism. And seeing how often English people bring up the war when talking about Germany (e.g. Southgate), it's seems to be part of their culture, too.

This thread is heading for a similar fate to the other recently closed one. I don't believe that was the OP's intention when starting it.

There is racism towards not only black people just as there is sexism not only towards women. Both are as bad in their nature. You should know it as an educated person.
Hold on.

Are you saying a ‘white’ persons experience of racism is as bad as that of a ‘black’ person?

How did racism get into this?

That said, there seems to be a lot of celebratory backslapping for acting like arseholes for 3 days. Bizarre.

Reminds me of scousers.

Don’t want to be cheeky, but if white people can be victims of racism does that mean non-Jewish people can suffer antisemitism?

Im pretty sure that Italian guy getting the shit kicked out of him the other night by a few black guys might have an opinion on it since the only reason he was a victim of the assault was his nationality.

But the real question is why people think its a competition? Cant we all agree that racism and bigotry are bad and leave it there? If people make excuses for one persons bad behaviour, where does it end? Ill tell you where it ends, it ends with nonsense judgements about people getting let off with dumb shit because "its not really racism". Like those four Muslim girls a few years back that attacked a white woman calling her "white bitch" and "white slag" as they punched and kicked the feck out of her. They pulled so much of her hair out that there was bald patches. The four got off on the charge of ABH because "they weren't used to drinking". Imagine the skin colours reversed. Imagine 4 white girls kicking the feck out of muslim girl and calling her "brown bitch" and "brown slag". You really think "Im not used to drinking" is going to save them from jail time? This is where making excuses for one group over another ends up going. So personally, I dont really care what colour you are, or your personal history or that of your race. If youre a racist, youre a racist and should be treated as such.

The sad thing about this post is it’s been said many times in many threads on here challenged by the same ‘wilful ignorance’.

I was banned for ‘name calling’ because I said this forum is a ‘shit show’ when it comes to the topic of racism, yet 3 forum members were allowed to tell a black member his lived experience of racism in/around Old Trafford never happened.

Never change RaceCaf.

But there's more at stake than that. To say that all racism is the same and bad is to level the playing field when, for most black people in the US and the UK, the game's been rigged for years. To equate the two is to presuppose that we are starting from the same point, which isn't true.

I’ll be honest, I stopped reading after the first sentence of your second paragraph.

You ask why it’s a ‘competition’ but led with an Italian man being beaten by a few black guys.

Read what is written. I’m yet to see anyone on this forum say that white people categorically can not be discriminated against because of their race as they quite obviously can but anyone stating the ‘racism’ suffered by black people is in anyone similar to the prejudice white people can face aren’t equipped for this conversation.

You can be any colour & suffer discrimination based on it, but don’t equivocate then start talking about it not being a competition.

The systemic, the micro aggressions, & countless other things simply aren’t in place for one group as they are for another.

This excuse is used far too often. I moderated a forum long ago before report & block options. If I’m given the ‘power’ to moderate on a forum then yes, I can join in on threads but surely part of the role is to cast an eye over things.

The thread went on for a few days with the same few posters.

You’re right it happens on every forum but it also needs to be accepted that it happens on this forum; I was banned for saying debates exactly like the one going on here still happen too frequently.

I enjoy numerous parts of this forum, the transfer tweets is a good way to check what’s happening at a glance & the General forums can be a good read even if I don’t actively participate but at the point where we’re seeing posts like the one from @The Don for the umpteenth time then the forum needs to admit there’s an issue imo.

To clarify, I don’t think inherently this place is racist but every thread of this type sees the same ‘wilful ignorance’ & often turns nasty, which isn’t conducive for a good natured forum.

that’s systemic racism, every day racism is the same to the person on the end of it.
