Give us Kalvin Phillips and Saul Niguez, sell Pogba, and watch this team take off with control in midfield. God, that would be immense. Especially with McTominay, Fred and VdB to rotate in. Phillips playmaking at 6, Saul at 8, Fernandez at 10. Very well balanced.
Still not convinced by Phillips and he would cost too much.

I don't think I've ever seen him consistently demonstrating the ability to control the pace of the match or play like a deep-lying playmaker. He's more a Gattuso than a Pirlo.

Zero chance we are getting Saul, we have a morass of midfielders already, Lingard returning, DVB, Pogba, Bruno, Fred, McT, and a tonne of youngsters. In fact I now don't see us getting a midfielder, given the choice between a DM/CM or a striker I think Ole will save his money and try to buy a CF next year.

We all love United
All these links with midfielders had me quite convinced Pogba is going to Paris and we are drawing up his replacement

Zero chance of us challenging City then if McFred remain as our first choice midfield, they lose nearly every midfield battle. A DM is needed unless we're prepared to just settle for 2nd or 3rd again.

So balanced that it would have two central midfielders who rank around the 50th percentile for passes completed, accuracy, and even lower for progressive passes. In fact, passing wise, Fred and McTominay (especially the former) actually fare a lot better on the stats. More importantly, even on the eye test.

If we’re buying a central midfielder, it has to be one who comprehensively offers something we don’t have — the capacity to pass the ball and retain it through the lines from central midfield around is most important for me, but failing that, someone with positional discipline to allow others around him to act playmaker. Neither Saul nor Phillips do either of those things.

€40m for Saul sounds like a right bargain. There's a proper player in there. If we're interested that is...

One of those players I don’t want but don’t want Liverpool to sign him either.

All that talk about switching to 4-3-3 suggests we're going to want a traditional DM for much of the season, and that sure isnt going to be Matic.

Only for a right money as they like to say... Combative midfielder still a priority I hope. This window's market is really full of interesting opportunities and we didn't even reached August yet.

By the way, If he ends like Thiago in Pool, I want my muppet juice back !

Let's hope so. The sooner we get another midfielder the better.
Saúl is not a bad shout tbh.

:smirk: Next year we could do a triple hit at getting Camvinga and Varane on a free and Halaand at his transfer clause fee.. Touché Msr!! I hope this happens!

Saul and Koke, who is the one La Liga fans rate better?
ALways been a massove Koke fan, really wish he was interested in moving years ago when we were constantly linked. He would hav ebeen a big hit in the premiership I feel with his style. I do like Saul too, very versatile but though he is very good....he does seem a bit of a jack of all trades rather than master of any to me. Not as excited as everyone else about him and thats with barely seeing him the last 18months too when he has supposedly dropped

Really enjoyed his interviews during the EUros, comes across as a great guy..........but that doesnt change the fact, before the tournament, I thought he was a good player but not good enough for England to start and go and win the tournament and his performances didnt change my opinion.

He even said himself he thougth he was just decent against Croatia. I thought he had a very good game against Germany, but most of the games especially the first hpur of the Denmark game and moments against Scotland, he looked pretty poor an dnaive to me. Constantly over eager to win the ball giving away fouls or getting bypassed with a 1-2 or rolled from a decent turn. McGinn did it to him several times. I know he is so so young, but Bellingham was already the better option for me and surely will be by the next world cup

He's been known as playing poorly in the last two seasons. He's still in a good age to regain his form back. At best, he will be amazing additional because he is very all round midfielder and very versatile to play in many positions but on current form I'm afraid he is not going to be decent additional. I'm 50:50 on this and I do think if we sign this guy, that's only if Pogba leaving.

Who was the source that had us yesterday being in advanced negotiations with his agent who is Jonathan Barnett?
I seen that too, but cant remember where i seen it. Probably worth taking note of if its from Spanish media, unless its AS. They're awful. And Don Balon, well.... enough said haha

I predicted Lpool for Saul, even before the swap rumour, sticking with it

People asking for Kalvin Phillips really don't understand the Leeds/Man Utd rivalry :houllier:

I'm sure we have 3-4 midfielders on speed dial, should Pogba be sold and he's one among them. I also don't think he's higher in the pecking order than Goretzka.
