If Green Bay hold firm nothing else matters.

Him just not playing or retiring would mean he has to repay tens of millions to the organisation if I remember right.
Yeah, but I wouldn't put it past Rodgers' pettiness to actually do it  From ProFootballTalk:

The financial penalties commence with mandatory minicamp. Per page 249 of the labor deal, the Packers can fine Rodgers $93,085 for missing all three days of the camp. Then, if he skips training camp, the Packers will fine him $50,000 per day. Under the 2020 CBA, the daily fines for missing training camp are mandatory and cannot be waived.

If Rodgers sits out all of 2021, he’ll lose his $14.7 million salary. The Packers also will be able to recover $11.5 million in unearned signing bonus money and Rodgers’ $6.8 million roster bonus, which was earned earlier this year and (per a source with knowledge of the situation) will be paid out with his game checks.

Assuming 40 days of camp, that’s a total financial penalty for Rodgers of more than $35 million if he doesn’t play this year — along with a lost opportunity to play football in one of his remaining years of high-level athletic ability.
I don’t recall who said it but I thought this was a good quote: The Broncs have the best roster other than QB in their division and could finish last in it.
I'd still have the Chiefs minus Mahomes over the Broncos minus starting QB. The Raiders are a mess themselves imo and the Chargers, while having an exciting young QB and a good defence, have been held back by coaching. Maybe Brandon Staley and Joe Lombardi will finally change that this season.

But they can't hold firm because he could simply sit out to force a trade. At the end of the day, they don't have the luxury of doing nothing since not having Rodgers would have massive effect on their season.
But him sitting out doesn’t necessarily force a trade, they could just tell him tough shit hence me saying “if they hold firm”.

Of course they’d prefer to have him, but they could well tell him to go feck himself and play Jordan Love, and recoup a bunch of money from Rodgers.

Imagine being so rich you actually could give that up

Chiefs without Mahomes would be close but I think the Broncos roster (again just for clarity - excluding QB) edges it, if for the purpose of this hypothetical we assume they all do what they’re capable of.

Well, if they cut Clark then I think it’ll have to be Denver at least.

The Chargers is a team I’d bet the over on win total…I think anyway, not sure where Vegas has them. As long as they can avoid the dreaded Charger injury curse and Derwyn James can stay healthy to help Bosa on D.

Been watching some Hard Knocks episodes from the last time Dallas were on it and Terrell Owens was playing for them.

Mad the amount of great players you forget in the space of ten years.

Saying that they do need to change their qualifying rules to appear on that show and they're is only like for teams available each year

9.5 wins, difficult one to predict. The under is at -130 and the over is +110 so Vegas seems to think it's more likely they stay below that total.

Posted it a little higher - such a shame for the dude and the Rams who are possibly the 2nd best team in the NFC
Ah cheers, missed that with the ongoing discussion. Yeah that's heartbreaking for him, seemed to finally catch on late in the season last year. McVay has talked about a backfield committee à la Shanahan multiple times this offseason, and I just checked, Malcolm Brown isn't there anymore either. Lev Bell is going to the Rams isn't he?

Bell, Duke Johnson, Chris Thompson and Peterson I think are the main names left. Not a great list

Id probably go Duke.

Crazy that big injuries have already started. Sucks.

On the Broncos, I think patience will be super thin on Lock. With a good game manager who can play effectively albeit not set the world alight, that’s a roster that’s ready to compete all the way. If Lock hasn’t progressed, Bridgewater would provide that I feel.

It’s so weird guessing W/L numbers with an extra game… I’d say 10W 7L is about right. Unless AAron finds his way to Denver, then all bets in that division are off.

I’m quite excited about us Pats this year. Don’t think we are ready yet but I’m hoping to see our D back in form with the opt outs back. And it’s strange having a high round drafted QB in the mix, but exciting in a way. Cam giving all the right talk, too. I’m worried about our offence. We spent quite big on mediocre talent in some places, still not sure we have all the right pieces in place there. But will be intriguing how we go through the season.

Well I guess we kicked and defended our way to the Superb Owl in 2015 so who knows.

Maybe Teddy can be safe enough to secure enough wins to make the playoffs, at that point anything can happen.

This Rodgers situation really is quite bizarre. Though I feel if a trade was going to happen, it’d likely have happened by now. Never know though. This ain’t your ordinary trade.

I think they are being written off a bit too easily for the AFC East.

Bills are rightful favourites but they will be in the mix for sure.

Yep. Bills are favourites but the Pats and the Dolphins should make it competitive.

There’s a lot of unknowns with those teams, but if Tua comes good and the Jets improve enough to steal a win here and there the AFC East could be a dogfight. Should be by next year at least.

Rams dead money this year is hilarious

Goff - £24,700,000
Gurley - £8,400,000

They made some massive contract mistakes the last handful of years when you consider last year they had a dead money hit of £21.8m for Cooks as well.

Some bold picks there; I like bold picks. WFT might low-key be one of the most interesting teams this season.
I just think it’s very rare that the pre season favourites win every division.

WFT could be really good if Fitz is decent.

So the Packers were planning in trading him soon enough as seen by that draft and now they don't want to trade him? Just let him go.

They (GB) do not want to be perceived as weak. This is probably more about optics and player's power than anything else. Also, what if he goes somewhere else and wins the Superb Owl?

I think they’ll dig their heels in to the point they’d let him retire before trading him.

Only thing I can see happening is a gentleman’s agreement he’ll return this year to be traded next year? Is it too far gone for even that?

The fact he turned down more money says he has very little interest being in GB.

Really intriguing.

It’s best for both sides to part ways. I don’t agree with Rodgers reportedly asking for the GM to be fired, but if it is a choice then Rodgers>>GM every time. Since they won’t do that, Packers should back the QB they chose to draft in the 1st round & trade Rodgers.

The Packers are run by clowns, they have a good coach though.

There’s a lot of talent on that team. Shame they are run so bad to the point Rodgers wants out.
If your star QB wants you to keep a receiver on the practice squad or to a minimum deal, just fecking do it. Gutekunst has always come across as a prick. The Love pick was purely ego-driven.

LaFleur is as mediocre as they come, if you'd make a HC ranking he'd be bottom half or right in the middle of the pack. He'd be horribly exposed at GB without Rodgers there imo.

I think he’s a good coach. We may get to see how good without Rodgers soon.

AAron lacks some leverage as he does not have a no-trade clause, and there’s not an owner to tell the GM to do the trade or get bent.

Simply from a cash perspective at GB it works out best for him to sit out and recoup all those bonuses as opposed to him retiring. But that would not be better in a competitive sense, so it would be…what’s the word…Vindictive? Selfish? Petty? Well, petty might work for both sides in this fight.

Don't think it's a realistic option, their relation would be forever broken and there are no winners in that scenario - GB never sees Rodgers take another snap at QB and Rodgers loses a season aged 37(!).

He'll either end up playing for them this season or get traded before the season starts imo. If he sits out, they'll either have to trade him anyway after the season (but "lose" out on a year's compensation should they get players in return) or keep that trend going (effectively ending his career unless Rodgers caves).

My guess is neither side blinks until we’re actually into the regular season and the pressure starts mounting so much on GB’s side to get something out of the situation in terms of draft capital and maybe good player(s) on rookie contracts that they cave. I’m putting a lot of faith in his stubbornness for that to be possible, obviously.

But who the hell knows…

I secretly hope Cole Beasley gets infected, the Bills have to forfeit a game and Diggs requests a trade because of it.
