Lingard is just running down his contract. Probably a PR play.
Put him in the reserves. We gotta be a bit ruthless from time to time!
If Lingard stays, he will be offered a bumper new contract, in the style of Phil Jones, I've no doubt about that.
But it isn't for the player to dictate and for the club to meekly accept.
Lingard should have been firmly told, "there is no future here for you, it's in your best interests to move along."
For me, if Lingard does stay, we might as well sell Dan James and/or Martial, because there is no point keeping all three to play in the same positions.

Or is Lingard seriously targeting the #10 position, ahead of Bruno..?
But then, what about Donny getting some minutes there, or Pogba, even Sancho can play as a #10, and why then, give Mata another new contract..?

Lingard probably doesn't want his wages to drop. Have you considered that? The club are to blame in all this. We pay mediocre players wages that belong to top class players.

No doubt we probably covered some of his wages last season otherwise Westham would be all over him this summer surely given how well he did for them.
Does not make sense, he has one year left in his current contract/wages. It is better to him to secure a 4-5 years contract on the form of Westham, than risking to be a bench warmer and see his value decrease and risk lower wages then.

Not to even mention his place in the England squad which he said was his priority ahead of his move to West Ham last season. It's last chance saloon for the World Cup squad and he chooses United bench, or even reserves, deliberately. My sympathy for Jesse ends here tbh.

What's next Pereira wants to fight for his spot?

Absolutely guarantee every United fan on this forum would be offering to be the tea lady and kit man if it meant they could stay at United.
Exactly. You have to factor this in.

That said he has to show his worth and frankly I’m not excited by him lining up for us any time soon. So I understand why people want him to move on, but we can’t expect him to want the same.

How is it that England has eased quarantine norms for people flying in from a place such as India (used India as an example because I’m from there) but someone flying in from Madrid still has to quarantine for 5 days. Don’t see how either of them are doing better or worse compared to each other when it comes to Covid numbers or even vaccinations.
Pretty intrigued to know what kinda data they’re basing these decisions on.

United should only be agreeing to loans if they include an obligation to buy not just an option to buy. As the likes of AC and Lazio clearly just want Dalot and Pereira for a year to save them having to buy someone.

This one is a bit silly. Damsgaard obviously had an eye-catching tournament at the euros but he's still incredibly raw and hardly a regular starter for Sampdoria.

We extended Jones and Bailly, think we're just going to let a 50m asset walk away...?
Lingard £50m asset?

No, just no.

He's currently available for around half that after some of the best form of his career and there are no takers. On no planet is Lingard worth £50m at this stage of his career and probably never has been.

And to your question it doesn't really matter what the club would or wouldn't do. It looks like Lingard wants to run his contract down for a big payday next year so I doubt he's signing another contract to barely play (and the club don't even seem to be offering him one).

Doesn't make sense, a Phil Jones style new contract, his renewal was a paycut (about 40% iirc) so Jesse's gonna stay and sign a pay cut?

Half of the posters on here have gone on about selling Jonny Evans and Michael Keane too soon. Pointing out that at times they would have been playing for us ahead of Smalling, Jones etc. He had a good spell at Villa in the Championship and then got unlucky with injuries since. I don't see the harm in going out on loan for one more year in PL and if he kicks on then great and if not we can sell.

You can't be a club that prides itself on youth development if you sell them at the first opportunity. Tuanzebe needs to play and he has a burning desire to make it at Utd. He knows he's running out of chances. Personally, I would rather we gave him this chance than went out and spent £20-30m on some flavour of the month french youth player who we have no idea is any better/worse than Tuanzebe.
Yet Evans and Keane don't have the quality we need, I do think this is Tuanzebe's last chance to make it. He either haves a great loan spell or we will sell him.

There's no way he'll have minutes here this season, he didn't last season and now with Varane's arrival he's 4th-5th choice at best.

I am very excited about this and hope that it happens, even though I'm not a spurs fan, just so I can see more of him. He looks brilliant.

Not sure about that , I believe Leicester must be looking at somebody who could start games regularly for them while with Tuanzebe it's not even clear he actually belongs at Premier level let alone regularly start for team trying to break in top four.
Brave to post this here mate. I'm not saying you're wrong, but its just outside of the group-think...

That will be why AC Milan are very keen to sign him and Ancelotti apparently wants him at Madrid. He could be playing near the top of European and international football for the next 10 years easily.
They only want him on loan as a cheap option. He was ok last season for an ok club and thats his level. He really isnt good enough for us. If madrid want him no doubt it would be as a cheap loan option

Back in 14-15. He went on a year loan with a buy option that Madrid decided not to take.
Scored the only goal in the Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid QF. Real proceeded to the SF after 1-0 on agg.
