It must be painful for all those associated with the club, but in the long run, with the financial situation they are in, it’s for the best. They need to sort out the finances of the club from here and focus on re building their team in their image and not get sucked into the big money market that has effectively ruined them.
For Messi, PSG is the obvious destination. City would have been but with their massive outlay on Grealish, I think they will pass on him, Chelsea would also be a possible destination and maybe London life would suit him. However I think he will opt to avoid England and go to France if given the choice.

It's probably a sportive setback for next season, but it's financially healthy and allows them to properly continue the rebuild of their team, rather than that effort being hamstrung by always having to put Messi first in their plans, which messes up the squad balance and tactics.
