Who knows, he might decide to go back to Argentina ( without the massive wages)

Wow the downfall of Barca has been catastrophic. Bartomeu will go down in history as the worst club president for how he led them into this mess.

I was hoping they could sort it out.

Villa can give him the Grealish money then sell him to City for 150 million plus Grealish

If he comes here we’re winning the league for the next 3 years straight.

He's still staying, isn't he? Just all drama. I still think he will somehow be there next season.

This is great news for Spurs fans. Messi to City and Kane to stay put.

I know it's fun to speculate but I'm surprised just how many are getting drawn into this

City might walk away having just spent £100m on Grealish. I’m sure Pep would have known for a while if his buddy Messi was going to stay or not, so that might suggest they’ve already made the decision.
It's happened overnight though, all reports yesterday said he was close to signing a new contract to end his career there.

Then La Liga rejected the contract and the club ended up asking him to take an even steeper pay cut to make it work with the league regulations and he's not having it at all apparently.

No one expected this at this time yesterday, not even sure he did.

Barca must be saving a fortune without those wages. Sad that it seems so sudden and that he doesn't get to say goodbye to the fans.

PSG should be favourites surely?

Finally reality collides with Messi's greed. He'll join Neymar at PSG now.

Let me go stock up on popcorn. This is quite the plot twist. Didn't see that coming. Few sides I look forward to enjoying their chaotic decline more than Barcelona.

I know it will never happen but if he were to come in to United, who would he replace in the first XI? Probably Cavani at the striker position and if so that would be a huge upgrade for us.

As @duffer said in the other thread, until he signs for someone else, can't rule out LaLiga bottling it.
Yeah, this announcement could easily be to test La Liga's nerve and make an exemption to the salary cap to keep Messi in the league. Not sure it's as simple as him being off straight away.

If PSG get him on a free, it must be the greatest free transfer window any club has ever had!

They'll struggle to finish Top 4 without him. It's not really something they can afford right now.
Short term it's not ideal but long term it might be. They can start to genuinely rebuild now with those wages freed up.

Constantly at the STD clinic.

Who wouldn't he replace?

Cavani, Rash, Bruno, Mason. Any of them -- he'd be a massive upgrade.

That doesn’t read like a genuine goodbye to me. They’re calling La Liga’s bluff.

guy was earning a million bucks a week, who's gonna sign him now? PSG are paying huge wages to Neymar, Ramos, and probably to Donnarumma & Wjinaldom, City paying huge transfer fees to Grealish & Kane, nobody is gonna sign him unless he accepts something reasonable like 300k a week somewhere

United offer him 450k a week.

Jones raises an eyebrow and receives a new contract as a result.
