As a free agent he will demand more than that. Probably 60m a year and a hefty 30-40m sign on fee on top. Plus it’s gonna be 3+1 minimum. He’s Messi. If you give him £1m pw for two years that's £100m "transfer fee".
Worth it?
Really? Despite every man and his dog saying they couldn't afford him (and shouldn't)?What can I even say? Just wow, absolutely stunned this came out of nowhere!
#kanestaysLooks like the talks broke down at the last minute so not sure (although who knows what's happening behind the scenes). Is it impossible for City to ditch the Grealish deal and instead splurge on Messi
Ditch future Messi for the current one? Come on that's not very smartI think it’s time we admit Dan James isn’t going to work here & give Lionel the hallowed no.21
Get Messi and we can offload Lingard?PSG seem favourites with City an outside shot. Nobody else can realistically afford him.
Take it or leave it he is 34 and there is one club that can get him.As a free agent he will demand more than that. Probably 60m a year and a hefty 30-40m sign on fee on top. Plus it’s gonna be 3+1 minimum. He’s Messi.
It's happened overnight though, all reports yesterday said he was close to signing a new contract to end his career there.City might walk away having just spent £100m on Grealish. I’m sure Pep would have known for a while if his buddy Messi was going to stay or not, so that might suggest they’ve already made the decision.
get him in to light a fire under awb.Maybe get Messi as backup for Bruno, or is he qualified for the dm role?
Drawn into? It's on the official Barca account.I know it's fun to speculate but I'm surprised just how many are getting drawn into this
Yeah, this announcement could easily be to test La Liga's nerve and make an exemption to the salary cap to keep Messi in the league. Not sure it's as simple as him being off straight away.As @duffer said in the other thread, until he signs for someone else, can't rule out LaLiga bottling it.
Short term it's not ideal but long term it might be. They can start to genuinely rebuild now with those wages freed up.They'll struggle to finish Top 4 without him. It's not really something they can afford right now.
Is he finally the right partner for Pogba in a midfield 2?Maybe get Messi as backup for Bruno, or is he qualified for the dm role?
Who wouldn't he replace?I know it will never happen but if he were to come in to United, who would he replace in the first XI? Probably Cavani at the striker position and if so that would be a huge upgrade for us.
White text? He’s the greediest footballer in the game.Who knows, he might decide to go back to Argentina ( without the massive wages)
