He seems more like the type who would leave United for more money. Based on that time he left Man United to make more money.
"It was not about money. It was not about the duration of the contract offer. In my opinion, I waited too long [for an offer] and deserved more attention from the club. I was a player that gave everything."

From his interview with The Athletic.

Nope. But if the stories are true, we're rather late at giving him an offer. Basically he had agreed a deal with PSG before we handed him ours. He had around 6 months left in his contract at that point if I remember it correctly.

Feet up at home.
No thanks.

He has gold tinted memories because he looked like he ran a bit more than some others.

Stay clear.

Why is he resigning?
Psg need to offload 200 mln in wages, many players will be sold or released (herrera, icardi and many others)

Pjanic is virtually a free agent, but many clubs are scared because he wants 10/15 million as a signing bonus + the regular wage

Seems like a desperation move which can signifies that our other options haven't worked out. I don't think he's that much better than Fred or McTominay so what does he offer us?

Drama queens in here. He was a great player with a ton of passion, and 100% an upgrade on McT / Fred. Definitely shouldn't resign him though.

Not saying he was as good as Kante with this pic but these numbers speak for themselves. He had more interceptions in 500 fewer minutes than the man who was known for being great at them.
Herrera's best season for us (the first under Mourinho in 16/17) was better than anything Fred has shown so far.

However Herrera 's previous (15/16) and following (17/18) seasons were worse than Fred's last two seasons for us. That's based on stats from both whoscored and squawka.

Given the above and the fact that Herrera turns 32 this Saturday, I'd say his best is well behind him. Don't need another Matic.

Can't release a player on contract, you'll have to pay him off which defeats the point. Herrera is 32 has another 3 years on 300k plus. No one will take him even on a free. PSG would have to subside half his wage at least which, again, defeats the point.

Really hope we don’t go for him, very limited player with just a lot of energy. He’s not particularly great defensively nor in attack. If we’re going for a midfielder we need to pursue a DM or a solid box to box player.

No. I did like him when he was here. Anyone who displays the amount of passion for the club I support is always a plus but he had the chance to sign a contract and I think, in the end, he felt he was better than he actually was.

Not good enough. I loved his passion, but I think his ability was overrated
Never played in his true position, was turned into a work horse, when really his best strength was his attacking play. But as for resigning no, we should look at younger and better.

I like Herrera and consider him one of our best CMs in the post Fergie era. But he turns 32 this week and probably wants a fat pay-check. And he's not that good anymore.

No thanks.
Realistically he's not getting the wages he's on at PSG, they'll have to pay a good chunk of his salary for the next 2-3 years or however long he's got left, regardless of whether he's really leaving or not. £300k a week just isn't feasible for most clubs even if the player is a world class forward, never mind a squad rotation midfielder.

Nah, thanks. I think he's an 'alright' player. But so are McFred.

If we sign new players for that position, it should be better than 'alright'
That's fair, we don't really need another midfielder unless he's a CDM destroyer like Makalele.

He's out of contact I believe.

Ander plays RW or RB at times for PSG. A fair amount of their players are expected to be versatile. Marqinhos is another who plays CB and DM. I dont find it very surprising then that Wijnaldum is going to play some matches on the right of a 4-4-2. Right of a front 3 would be harder to explain
Hence why I said flying RW

don't understand the massive under-rating of his performances in this thread - he's better than fred or mct, or at least he was when he left - but a square peg in a round hole if he comes back. what's needed is a DM.

You expected United to come out and say "We waited till the last minute and offered him a year deal with McTominay starting instead of him" ?
Did I post quotes from United in an effort to corroborate/invalidate an opinion?

The first page makes for amusing reading. He was a really good player for us, and would be a significantly better option for us than either McTominay, Fred or Van de Beek if he were a little younger.

We already have a superior 30+ year old in Matic. Makes no sense to get this guy.

To be fair we waited until he had less than 6 months left on his deal before offering him a new contract, by which time he already had the contract offer from PSG on the table. Put yourself in his shoes where one club has come in with big money while the other seems uncertain if they even want to keep you, it's hard to really blame him.
If he wanted to stay he would’ve. I don’t blame him for leaving. Just countering the ridiculous notion that he’d take a pay cut to play for us again.
