We're clearly a team that liked wing play but we currently don't have any on the pitch. A lot of switches wasted on James. Pogba isn't really a winger and James being non existent highlights are lack of wing play

I have to say because they get a lot of flak here but both Scott and Lindelof have not put one foot wrong. Happy for them

Comparing out dire fitness and effort last season, we've made sure we have put in a shift. Fitness may still be growing, but there is definitely no lack of effort or desire, the guys are giving it their all, and that is exactly what is expected.

Awww cmon hook James at HT and put him out his misery

Sancho must be licking his lips at those chances James is getting thinking I’d have 2 goals by now
Maybe not goals, but a couple of assists definitely. Sancho makes the right decisions almost every time and sadly it's the opposite with James.

We've been very good. Greenwood and Bruno excellent. Pogba very good. Mctominay did well, Fred a little more clumsy but fine. Only James stood out like a sore thumb. And fullbacks could do a bit more in attack.

Bruno, Greenwood and Mctom have been class. Pogba been good if a little sloppy. James poor but at least he hustles i guess. Would like to see Martial and Sancho for James and Pogba in the second half preferably when we're two goals up.

Parody post or are you not actually watching the match? McT is one of our best players today, and not for the first time either.
McT is having good game, but good old McT-Fred pair in the old formation is very unexciting. Was hoping to see 4-3-3

Good goal from Bruno and sweet pass from pogba. Should be 2-3 up with chances. Now well see if the nerves creep in like last season. Lets see some progression and see out the game.

Great to be back. So sloppy passes now and then but overall our intensity is so great to see after last season's start. McT, Shaw, Greenwood and of course Bruno being the standout players. Pogba and James with some good some bad stuff but overall ok+ from them also.

Entertaining first half. Very happy the football is back and looks so far pretty good. A bit harsh on James here though.
Not really. We've been pretty good, but he's been a massive weak point and a letdown for many of our attacks.

He's not good enough for this club, and he probably never will be. Unfortunately, we're missing players, so he's had to play today.

Very good half, not much to complain about except that we probably should have scored two. Leeds have been surprisingly ordinary. Hope we get to see Sancho soon.

Cant wait till Sancho plays instead of James.

Its going to be a bigger upgrade than Bruno for Lingard.

James has been crap but it was the right decision to ease Sancho in. Really good first half from us with a lot of positive performances. Notably Greenwood had some lovely linkup play and looks like his all round game has improved.

I'm not watching the game, but the comments in here re James are depressing. Yeah he's not Ronaldo, but he is a useful squad player.

He reminds me a bit of Sterling actually, great instinct to be in the right place but quality on the ball not matching his intelligence. No shame in it, it still makes him a player that causes the opposition a lot of problems.
He isn't offering anything. Gives it away and is also being caught offside when he can clearly see the line.

    It's no exaggeration
I don't want to put them on the spot but Dong Fangzhuo, Mame Biram Diouf, David Bellion, William Prunier, Bébé, Kleberson and many others want to have a talk with you.

Overall good! If not peak Bruno then at least something much closer to that than we've seen in a while. Greenwood very good, Lindelof excellent. McTominay is everywhere.

but James obviously awful, Fred also not having a good one. Maguire and Shaw also less in control than we've grown used to, but nothing big.

    Now Sancho please!

James: You can see why Bielsa wants him. Look at how many positions his running has gotten him into, look at how many times he has won the ball.
However, he has zero quality on the ball. It is almost meaningless for a top club like ours.

A really promising half from us.

Mctominay, Bruno and Greenwood have all shown their quality at various points. We're pressing high and look lethal on the break.

Not to mention Sancho, Varane, Cavani and Rashford are still to come. Shit is looking good.
    Notice you didn't mention Martial.

Best part of that half is how calm every player has been on the ball. Massive improvement from last season. Long may it continue.
Look at this weirdo posting about the game. This is "bash Dan James" thread, fella. Go to the match day thread for your opinions on the game.

Enjoyable half of football, serious pace to it for a opening season fixture. Deserved lead would be 3-0 ahead at the break if a bit more clinical. Still issues on switching off when defending set pieces.

Great to see a full house back in Old Trafford again.

Slowed down after the goal but an excellent half with some stand out performances by Shaw, Lindelof, MCT, Pogba and Bruno. James taking a lot of stick but he is causing Leeds problems, making a lot of good runs.

Leeds are the ideal team to play against in some ways, wide open, ridiculous space in the middle of the pitch, goal was coming, but with Sancho to come Utd are going to be very difficult to contain. Shaw dominating the left side so much allows Pogab to play a higher role, and it has been great to see the variation in Pogba's game, dropping in to create, making runs, very free.

Welcome back. A lot of positives with the way we've played so far. Started very well, that early game sluggishness nowhere in sight. Player movement and passing was excellent in the opening stages.

Some old problems/issues still with us, though. Fred has been anonymous or a passenger, and Dan James tries his little heart out but just doesn't have it. The opening 10 minutes James looked like he was finding the right spaces but he's had the ball at his feet in dangerous situations 3 or 4 times first half and wasted every opportunity. When Jadon comes on in 2nd half that should be the last time the weight of playing as a United winger will fall on his shoulders.

McTominay having an impressive first half. Bruno and Pogba linking up sexy as hell. Our back line looks solid. Lindelof has upped his game. Maybe Varane's arrival will be the kick up his backside he needed. DeGea made a couple good saves, keeping it simple.

Pogba missed a fairly easy 1v1, Leeds missed a couple good chances. We are rightfully on top but it could be 3-1 easily already. It's been a really fun game to watch. Entertaining first half.

He has been okay, think about Richardson or Fortune at their best.

Stylistically it’s not actually the worst comparison. I think the biggest difference between the two (apart from quality levels of course) is their physical strength. Sterling is so strong for such a short arse whilst James would struggle against a wet paper bag

He should be substituted, he cant be the best we have.
    He's obviously not.

He's a squad player and he's not been awful. He's just squandered some good openings.

Greenwood is going to be the best player in the league in a few years time.
He's been brilliant. There was this one two with Shaw which was so simple but just so classily done.
