I'm not watching the game, but the comments in here re James are depressing. Yeah he's not Ronaldo, but he is a useful squad player.

He reminds me a bit of Sterling actually, great instinct to be in the right place but quality on the ball not matching his intelligence. No shame in it, it still makes him a player that causes the opposition a lot of problems.
why comment if you aren’t watching? the guy is a competition winner. Hard work isn’t enough, he can go work hard in the championship.

Parody post or are you not actually watching the match? McT is one of our best players today, and not for the first time either.
I want to petition modwarnings to posters that go below a certain threshold of skewed reality and negative feedback.

Decent first half. Like many have said we should swap James for Sancho, hope this happens soon. Maybe won't see it until 60 minutes as that's the unwritten rule!

Decent half. Definitely deserve to be ahead. Matched their energy and created some really good openings. Unfortuantely, our decision making and lack of finishing prowess have let us down but I think we look quite sharp considering its our first game this season and some players have had little time under their belts during pre season.

Going into the second half, I'd like to see us being a bit more ruthless in the final third.

We'r playing well, would probably be another goal or 2 up if we had anyone other than Dan James playing, he's absolute shite.

Opening game of the season, we're playing very well against an old rival, and most of you in here are whining.
    Are you seriously kidding me?

    What's wrong with people?

Pogba is also very sloppy. Can’t even blame it on match fitness because he is always sloppy at random.

Agreed. He's been highly involved, worked hard and pushed the Leeds backline back.

Loving the game so far. Everyone is doing great with the exception of James and Fred. I don't see what the fuzz is about with pointing this out.

Good line up from Ole. Sancho should make his debut in the 2nd half. Donny for Fred maybe if he can't turn it out. (Although Fred has a knack for a tale of two halves).

McTominay and Pogba playing out of their minds.

FFS leave James alone everyone. He’s been one of our better players and his energy has been vital. Yes his finishing and decision making needs work but he’s been good.
You can't pick and choose. That's exactly what he's on the pitch for...his finishing and decision making. His return really has to be a lot better for a team like United. Nothing against him personally but if it's ultimately costing us goals, it has to be addressed.

Lots of positives to focus on, but McTominay deserves a special shot. Playing out of skin, the boy is.

Hope to see Sancho on before the 65th minute.

Great half of football. Some of our play has been outstanding, especially in getting out of the midfield press. McT really is Leeds' kryptonite, he was immense throughout. Greenwood has also been great at running at people, still needs to work on his play with his back to goal but the signs are promising.

Pogba and Bruno are just a joy to watch. Pogba should've had the first goal of our season, but made up for it with that beautiful assist. Only disappointment is James' lack of quality in the final third. But he has kept running and is only there until the better players get fit so don't have any complaints. Shaw has also been a bit over eager at times, may need to slow down as we already have the lead and can counter at will now. One more United goal and this game is done.

James' end product has been poor, but his pressing and presence high up the pitch has pegged them back a bit. Clear to see why he started, even if others were fit. I suspect he'll come off at the hour mark, hopefully for Sancho.

Good half from everyone. McT, Bruno, Greenwood and Shaw in particular. Lindelof also doing a good job at shutting me up too.

We've been great! Don't want to be mean picking on James but he's been so far below the rest of the team today. I really don't see what he offers us, the work-rate argument is a complete no-go for me, all our players have worked hard today. Hoping Sancho on for him at half time. That front 4 is absolutely terrifying. Greenwood's been brilliant imo. Pogba getting into great positions. McSauce doing an excellent job in midfield. Good to see Shaw continuing to get forward and create chances too. Hope we smash a few more past Leeds, we've been by far the better side.

I don't want to put them on the spot but Dong Fangzhuo, Mame Biram Diouf, David Bellion, William Prunier, Bébé, Kleberson and many others want to have a talk with you.
Buttner, Djemba Djemba, Cleverley, David May, Possebon, Ricardo, Manucho... :D

they are going to act like the goal materialised out of nowhere and Pogba wasn’t involved  See the abuse he was getting earlier?
Im pretty sure most people agree that Pogba is a brilliant player and a real asset to any team......but he has to prove his worth consistently and he has to show that he wants to be a Manchester United player game in game out not just when it suits him. Yes it was a great pass and not many have the vision to see a pass like that, let alone the skill to complete it, but one pass doesnt make a season. It looks like Pogbas at United for at least this season, so lets see how hes shaped up in a few months time; if he plays as we know he can play for say 75% of the time and helps us to the Prem title, great.

Well its last years side with a couple missing. Got to say its paining seeign some of those players on our bench even with players missing, Pereira and Mata shouldnt be in a United squad for me even with a load of absantees.
Positives for me Fernandes looking full of energy again, McTominay looking good and Lindelof building on his end of form season and looking solid. Ironic he has got to his best now for us and barely a hope of strating soon.
Negatives James, again how on earth is he starting even with the absantees, his touch and decision making is simply nowhere near good enough. Pogba being Pogba again, moments of real quality mixed in with lazy lacksidaisical street football touches when he can just keep it simple and again Mctominay has been good but the McFred pair of them together not against the bigger sides where we need to sit back get bypassed on the break and are just lacking in certain attributes both defensively and progressively with the ball. Again for me we definatley need a central midfield reinforcement to really challenge this season. VDB is the only real option behind them currently and who knows what player he will be this season

Please stop all the posts about the general match, this is the Dan James criticism thread.

Mods can you make sure people remain on topic please? Thanks.

I can't believe that guy had the audacity to shoot. What an idiot.
Absolutely, 1 in 3 posts is about the actual game :nervous:

A good half there. We can be a little disappointed to not be 2-0 up as Pogba really should have done better with his big chance. However I can't really complain. He had a fantastic pass for Fernandes which was equally controlled and put away fantastically. Still need another goal to make it comfortable as Leeds are dangerous if we give them too much. Still a good first half and looking forward to the second.

Good half! Top that second half and it should be a comfortable win. Looking forward to a much better start to this season.

    Re: the impressive James whining:

Sancho is not matchfit for 90 and will have sat on the bench to afford him the luxury of actually observing the team. He's coming in for James at 45 or 60, whichever fits the best.
