Bunch of Beckham's Cals on this forum

We have the modern version of Beckham now, but 10 times the player and has stayed much more years in the top than him = CR7.

Good thing they're not compared on football terms, then.
Let me rephrase. Footballing or Branding. Becks had his day in the sun but Messi has been dominating for a long time. Some of you need to get out of england a bit more. Asia and South america is dominated by Messi for like a decade or so.

Barcelona have problems. Let’s say United sell Lingard, Jones and Martial for a tidy 70m.
Would you put in a monster bid for Frenkie? I know I would.

I get your point but in purely pragmatic terms in inch-perfect long crosses specifically I’d say they were as good.
Becks was a phenomenal crosser of the ball but come on. I don't see any scenario where he can be compared with Messi. Even on crossing Messi has been known to repeatedly deliver inch perfect crosses with perfect weight and timing several times in virtually every game he plays.

Anyone who thinks Becks have anything on Messi in footballing terms, is a nobody and irrelevant. I get this is a united forum, but comparing the two is like comparing a F1 car to Ford Pinto.
I take it you weren't around when Beckham mania was at its peak? Far bigger than Messi now.

Yes, by a bunch of teenage girls, fanboys and casual observers from a distance. Any footballing person knew who the real "players" were. Been watching football for over 30 years.
That's not a slight on Becks, he was a good looking dude and a good player. But putting him in the same sentence as Messi is not called for.

It's a hard one to judge. I believe as a duo, the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo has pushed both of their brands to a level that might have actually surpassed Beckham.

Basically a bunch of united fans that can't come to terms that Messi has far surpassed Beckham in branding. Footballing side was never even a question.
You do realise you’re coming across like a bit of a twat right? Super aggro and don’t seem to be getting that people have the right to not agree with you. In fact, quite a few people aren’t agreeing with you- you have to at least be open to the possibility that your opinion may not be correct

Except, without football, Becks is just another good looking dude on the street. So I am not sure you can separate football from superstar in his case.
Of course you can. People with zero interest in football know who David Beckham is/was. The same isn’t so for Messi or Ronaldo.

I am sure if he hadn't spent his entire career playing football, duke and dutchess of sussex would have totally known him.

He'd have end up working lifiting cargo at a dockyard if it wasn't for football. You guys are unbelievable.

You’re quite deliberately missing the point, so I’ll leave you to it.

They're not a "nobody" or "irrelevant" though are they?

Learn how to converse like a normal person and come back. Sometimes people disagree with you. It's okay.

This doesn't stop anything from what the other guys have written being true.

He used football to become famous. He and his brand then outgrew football and I would imagine in the US especially there are a number of people who are unaware that he played football. They simply know him as model/star/celebrity etc.

Messi hasn't outgrown football. He is only famous for football which isnt the case for Beckham.

Anyway, on your other point, you can't have ever watched peak Beckham if you don't think he could do anything as well as messi.

Messi is arguably the GOAT but Beckham was better than him in a number of areas. But that will always be the case as they weren't the same type of player.

Jesuschrist... this thread is hilarious. So out of touch with reality that it stops being frustrating and starts being funny

What's Messi done apart from football? What is he famous for?

Clue; the same as Beckham.

Don't create straw mans.

I was not the one saying messi is a football superstar and becks is a superstar. Fact is, both are football superstars and outside of football neither one would hold much to anything, it's just that Messi is a much bigger one.

I can understand thinking Messi is fantastic and better than Beckham in everything footy related is an opinion some people have and will fight over. But to not acknowledge Beckham‘s continuous success off the pitch weakens every other stance you take. It‘s difficult to take you serious after reading your thread-derailing posts.

Back on topic, does anybody know if Barcelona has a timeframe within which they are required to lower their wage to revenue ratio? And by how much exactly?

Can we please try and get back on topic?

Someone compare the ad revenue numbers between Beckham and Messi. That will at least progress the thread.

I can't be bothered to look up Ad data but I got something!

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=/m/06qjgc,/m/02d9k,/m/0hvgt

If you look at google trends you'll see somewhere around 2010 Messi overtook Beckham as a search term (makes sense as he effectively retired by then after 3 years in the US), and Messi is only getting 33% of traffic compared to Barcelona directly (on average), which is alot less that the 90% revenue some were specualting.

As much of a clown as Perez is, I think he was right that the way media and entertainment are consumed by the younger generation is changing, and as a result we'll see more people being more fans of individual players rather than a club as a whole.
