Then why is he going to Real Madrid now? Given that their squad is on the decline (has been for the last couple of seasons). Surely he has a higher chance of winning the UCL for the next few seasons with the current PSG squad. They’ll probably add Pogba next summer as well.
Because Real Madrid might well be the biggest club in the World? They have 13 Champions Leagues and every time they are written off, they rebuild and win a shit load of Champions Leagues again.
PSG have won 0.

Its Real Madrid, CR7 went there when United won a CL final and then got to CL final, he wanted to be part of the Real rebuild.

Even if PSG win the CL, he knows the headlines already, Messi inspired PSG not Mbappe. Mbappe wants to be the main man and this is a chance to leave for a reasonable fee.

If he signs a contract, he will end up in a position like Kane, PSG won't sell and he will be 28/29 and playing in the French League.. he wants to improve, its not the age where he can just enjoy French football.

"Does NOT want to go to war against PSG" but threatens to run down his contract. That's purehearted of him, good lad that one.
What? He's not trying to break his contract, it's expiring naturally on its own and if these stories are to be believed he's leaving it up to PSG whether they want to collect a fee or keep him for another year.

Bit disappointed we’re not going to end up signing a midfielder, we seemed almost certain to bridge the gap this summer but not sure how confident I feel without a really good midfielder to round off the window.

I can't believe we are going into another season with the same mediocrity in midfield.
It is definitely a limiting factor. Difficult to see a proper title challenge with McFred, let along anything approaching success in Europe.

I expect we'll have a decent season and will finish third or fourth.

Why? We finished 2nd last year and have added 2 world class players, yet we are going to finish 3rd or 4th this season?

Because City and Chelsea have strengthened and Liverpool have their players back. No guarantee of 2nd this year.

For what it's worth, I really think a decent midfielder would have put us up there competing for top spot but I guess it's not to be.

They have but not as good as we have strengthened, yes a defensive midfielder would be ideal but I really don't feel we are the 3rd or 4th best team in the league. We are a better side than many give us credit for.

If they keep saying it eventually Chelsea will finish above us.
Nobody has had a better window than us.

It's funny, how I've seen more non United fans more positive about our chances than our own fans. My brother is a Chelsea fan and he even tips us to finish ahead of them.

That Midfield looked good last weekend. Varane strengthens us at the back so probably don't need as much cover. That and Donny might come into his own this year playing along side Matic Free Which will allow Pogba and Bruno to do what they do best.

I.e: Not, not refusing to play, still giving his all, still turning up to training, not being a disruptive member of the locker room.

So yes, he's not going to war with PSG.

It’s the fact fans expect us to do worse than when we had James and Lindelof playing that stands out. Even Chelsea doesn’t make sense. Signing Lukaku who has it to prove isn’t enough when you need goals along the front line to get near the top 2 these days. They’re down to 1 goal scorer who cant get injured or have a bad run of form or they’re back to square 1.

So Utd have bought 2 players which is spread over 4 and 5 years.
I wouldn't call that proper investment.
Don't get me wrong it's 2 good signings but not the sort of investment I expected.

I thought this would be the case but it’s still disappointing. As good as the signings of Sancho and Varane are it feels like we’ve done 2/3rds of the job here. Instead of just really going for it this time and bringing in a DM as well which would basically be the final piece of the puzzle for now instead we’ve done half a job and could potentially come up short again this season. That said I do still think that we can challenge with our current squad but adding a midfielder to the mix would really cement that thought.

either a leak or a true story. Either way this summer has been fantastic player in-wise. No complaints.
I'm still in the belief that Trippier will be a deadline day signing and we'll make a CM signing closer to deadline day too.

I feel the same, I think we'll comfortably finish top 4 but I don't see a genuine title tilt.

He doesn't address central midfield though as he's a liability in there, he's mostly been on the left for the last few months

McTominay had a good game, I didn’t think Fred was great, but Leeds suit them and even then there were holes for Leeds to run through as both are postionally poor, and in games where we are expected to dictate the play they are useless. Matic still has some quality but is out of steam after 60 minutes and so far there's nothing to suggest Ole fancies VdB.

Threatens? He has every right to run down his contract. He’s no slave, atleast he didn’t sign a contract and refuse to play.

Marseille have now made this into a proper transfer saga.
They're offering exactly the same transfer fee and salary as Genk apparently, so Chelsea don't appear to benefit from this development. Ugbo suddenly has an important decision to make though.

I don’t want to believe we’re not signing a midfielder. McFred and a year older Matic? No thank you.
We're broke and we can't sell anybody, it is what it is. Hopefully things will be different next summer after a year of having crowds back and boosted revenue.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

The fact that people still spout this absolute bollocks never ceases to amaze me.

Spent close to a billion in the time since Fergie left. Consistently spend north of £100M each and every year and yet we're somehow "Broke"

Give me a fecking break.

I'm not saying Utd can't compete and potentially win the league this season but I think it needs to be pointed out that the vast majority of non-United fans and most league predictions in general have Chelsea and City finishing 1st and 2nd (order often reversed). We are normally put 3rd. We did finish 2nd last season but let's not try to pretend that Chelsea didn't have Lampard managing them for a significant part of the season. Chelsea's record after Tuchel came in was excellent and they went on to win the CL. Hardly unrealistic to think they could finish ahead of us. Liverpool only finished 5 points behind us despite one of their best players missing the entire season and many of their most important players like TAA and Mane having their worst season in a while. Now that their best cb is back it could definitely be argued they're stronger. Btw I expect us to finish above Liverpool and personally I feel like Wijnaldum is a big loss for them that they have not replaced but nonetheless they are undoubtedly still one of the best teams in Europe. City obviously won the league very easily in the end with a 12 point margin and they have added Grealish and possibly will add Kane.

I'm very happy with our signings (I would love a cm too but it's not a disaster if we don't get one) and our performance against Leeds was especially promising. Nonetheless it is very possible that we could end up finishing lower than 2nd this season due moreso to the performances of the teams around us improving rather than us getting worse.

I expect we'll take more points and therefore "do better" than last season in terms of results. That doesn't mean we will finish 2nd again of course.

The lack of either strength or depth in midfield will be a limiting factor.

With this signing I feel like a 9 month pregnant, irritable and fatigued, I can't wait for this to end.
I am completely saturated with rumors. Apparently something definitive may happen this weekend, I'm not mentally prepared to wait another year

It's so obvious we're limited by our sales not being what we expected.

Hopefully we let a lot of the deadwoods contracts expire next summer and we have space to fill the last few holes in the squad, mainly CF, DM and possible RB. Think we should be good to go after that, no real excuses if we pull it off.
