We've got better options then Matic. For example we could have played Pogba in CM or VDB. The Serbian's legs are gone. The only one who seem not acknowledging that is Ole.
Umm, Fred as the deepest CM is a disaster waiting to happen. One of the CMs has to stay in front of the defence and shield them. Fred's biggest strength is his energy and the ground he manages to cover. Positional discipline/ reading the game/ decision making which are essential for someone playing the lone DM role (which he would have to should VDB or Pog play to get their best) aren't something you'd associate Fred with.

The people who want him out presumably want him out on the basis of what they have seen in the last three years, not the last two weeks.
This.

Is not overreacting over one game, is the reaction of being feed up with almost three seasons now of inconsistency and the same coaching weaknesses that haven't/can't be corrected under the current coaching team.

Here's my frustration with Ole.

I don't think I've ever seen us play well against a side with a good pressing game. It doesn't matter if it's RBL or Southampton or City or Pool or even Arsenal. It's just whenever there are markers 1:1 high up the pitch, with the ball with the GK, we live dangerously and give away atleast 1-2 turnovers to the pressing team that result in dangerous chances.

It's not even a personnel thing - it doesn't matter if Pogba is in the middle or if it's Fred or if it's McTominay. They receive the ball, get pressured, want to find an open pass, none exists, dwell on the ball for a bit too long, attempt a dangerous pass when none exists and give it away.

I find it unbelievable that amongst McKenna, Carrick and Ole they can't solve the simple, almost set play like situation of the GK having the ball, CBs split wide, DM drop deep and play it out. They can just go direct to Pogba on the left and counter press if we lose the ball but they don't do that either. It's the stubborn insistence that they have to play it out the back coupled with the complete lack of ability to do so that gets us in so much trouble.

You can blame individuals - Fred and Matic have had shit games today, but I don't think we would've done significantly better if we had Jorginho and Kovacic or Rodri and Gundogan.
Exactly this. Just look at che, city, pool, they are all comfortable in this department without any issue.
Apart from the time we beat Red Bull 5-0? In fairness it was nearly 10 months ago.

Oh and beating Pep 3 out of the last 4 games in the league, other than that you're correct it never happens.

Nothing can be worse then Matic. The guy is finished

He's had the time to build now he has to show results. That's reality.

If we spend another season going a goal or two down to the likes of Southampton then it's going to be a shit season, and he shouldn't be getting another chance after it.

It's trending again.

Honestly, 2 games in.

Fecking 2 games.
Yes, but one of which - a game we should be winning easily - we have already dropped 2 points. And these days you can’t afford to drop many of them if you want to win the title.

Probably because many have seen this script with us dropping points many times since he took charge

Southampton stole a point and everyone acting like everything is a disaster again.
Things will settle down. Spurred on by the excitement of a big transfer window for the club, there's just a mismatch between expectations and actual quality at the moment.

This afternoon was not the performance or the result of a title challenger, but it is commonplace for a top 4 side to drop points in this manner.

By October/November, we'll be nestled comfortably into that zone between 3rd and 5th and people will have adopted a more moderate outlook underpinned by rather more realistic expectations.

If we've "nestled" into not looking like title contenders by November then the pressure on Solskjaer will be insane. Whether posters on Redcafe want to accept it or not, those are the expectations he is going to be held to this season by the broader football-watching public and media.

Personally, if we are nestled comfortably in that zone at the end of the season, he needs to go.

People really need to get a grip, yes everyone is upset as we didn't win and the performance wasn't good but its our second game, we are already better off than last season so its not the end of the world.

Shit selections, shit response to the game and poor game management again. Ole needs to shoulder part of the blame for this poor result.

I can't blame them really. He's got all the talent in the world to beat Southampton comfortably. Yet he insists on players like Matic and Fred in CM. Ole needs to grow a backbone. This is United not Molde or Cardiff. We play attacking minded players.
Every team plays defensive midfielders/passing midfielders. Jorginho and Kante, Xavi and Busquets, Casemeiro and Kroos, Fernandinho. I can't think of a single top team in the last 10 years that hasn't had at least one non-attacking midfielder.

Simply because once again we lack an identity, shape and showed a lack of ability to change in game time.
Also why do we play a new signing out of position when we've be crying out for an out and out right winger for years.
Varane does not change the sucess of the club when fully integrated with us playing a two man holding midfielders.
So much for Oles vision to play one out and out defensive midfielder.

Do we need to play both Fred and Matic though?

By the media, maybe. But if you believe:

a) United are going to challenge for the title this season

and

b) Ole will be sacked if we fail to challenge for the title this season

... then you are just setting yourself up for disappointment on two fronts.

You guys will be like we are only 40 games in, just 40 games.

I am not calling for him to be sacked now however if you still think these matches are one-offs, we needed Cavani etc, give your head a wobble.
It will be game 2 of the 2025 season, still no major trophy , screaming we are only 2 games in

This is more or less accurate.

I find it stunning that some of our supporters look at that team today and genuinely seem to expect it to win the title.

Can't believe you still haven't understood Ole. His strategy always has been safety first. Doesn't really matter if they are match fit or not.

He could have easily put Pogba in midfield yet he stick with him until 85th minute and brings on Lingard. Seriously?
Thats why we will never win anything with Ole in charge. He thinks he is the 2nd Fergie, when really they are polar opposites.

If Ole does not take this team where it aims to be, then United should do him the same thing that Chelsea did to an oud-of-his-depth Frank Lampard. Seriously, just feck sentimentality.

What? We thrashed them 5-0 in Germany! It could easily have been more. It was a total dismantling of Nagelsmann's approach which made him look like a kid playing at being a manager. And sure, they came back and beat us 3-2 here, which was a major feck-up. But even on balance that's a 7-3 aggregate scoreline.
So the head to head is 1 win each…

Its hypocritical to moan at others for wanting Ole out after 3 years worth of games, and you’re basing your assessment of Nagelsmann on just 2 games.

We have to be challenging with this squad.

How can it not?

Sancho wasn't starting, nor varane, rashford and cavani not even on the bench.

We the fans think we need a midfielder but ole doesn't seem to think so.

Because the midfield is full of bang average players.

I think Ole wants a midfielder desperately. He’s already made comments in the media which indicate he’d like more signings.

I'll not be convinced until he buys at least one.
