how come? Dont understand why our fans are pining over him. Shall we see if scholes and rooney are up for putting their boots on again and ask wild bill hicock if he’d like to take over as head of security after last seasons liverpool protest?
you don't understand why fans won't like it if a club legend signs for our rivals

yeah okay

Surely he won’t go? He’s always said that he would never join any of our rivals, why would he go back on his word? If he moves then it’s purely for money, why ruin your legacy and what you have with united fans. He’s already won everything there is to win so I don’t think going to city is purely based on trophies. We should be all over this and making him rejoin us, the team that made him who he his today should be the team he retires with.

Did I want us to resign him? Nope. Am I then going to complain about him joining City? Nope. Frankly, I´m not fuzzed at all. Guardiola will find out soon enough that Ronaldo is passed it, and then he´ll have to deal with the problem of having a super-ego on the bench. So in sum, Ronaldo to City plays to our advantage.

Quite honestly, is the rivalry even that much of a thing between the players these days? Greenwood and Foden are roommates with England and by all accounts they tag team the groupies. The Latin players spend their holidays together in the city. Aguero is visiting de Gea's home and being kind of a Godfather to his child. The rivalry is only good for Sky to sell their product.
Dafaq? Just cause you’re a rival doesn’t mean you can’t talk to them. That’s just ridiculous. Some of these lads grew up together and played together even as teenagers.

Are people in this thread doing that weird thing were they act like Ronaldo is not a United legend?

Catalyst and star player during our most dominant period. Won ballon d’or here. Won more than Cantona here. Arguably the best player to line up for the club. Come on
Depends on how you define legend.

For me, a club legend is someone who:

- Is first and foremost associated with that one club.
- Spent their best years at that club.
- Does have a genuine affection for the club.

Point 3 is often hard to judge, of course, but Ronaldo falls well short of both 1 and 2. He's a Real Madrid legend as far as I'm concerned. United was a springboard for him, nothing more.

And yes, Cantona is a United legend because I believe he ticks all those boxes. Maybe 3 not so much any more but who knows. Definitely 1 and 2 though.

What is loyalty in the face of greed and fame?

The outcry here  . Ronaldo has always been a glory hunter. I loved him when he played for us. Ever since he moved to Real, I never bothered about him . So I really don't care even if joins City. He fecked off to Real when we were top of the world. Do you really think he loves the club? Naa. It has always been a one sided romantic love story.

And he won't fit that City . Messi or Kane would have been that perfect missing piece for CL but CR7 isn't. On the contrary, he would have been a perfect fit for us .

Good luck playing high press with this guy !!

So he can say he won the CL with 3 different teams?

Let's calm down for a second here and think logically. Do you think Pep announced he's leaving because of the signing of Ronaldo ?
I don't really see Ronaldo as a Pep player and not sure it will work out for him there. Not sure Pep would want him either due to the history between the pair. Seems like it's more of a state PR signing since PSG have Messi more than a pep wanted signing. I can see it going tits up for city tbh.
this is a classic

Ronaldo is bigger than Man Utd in world sports. I dont wanna admit it, but its true.

I've never liked him much and always preferred Messi. If he goes to City, feck him.

At the end of the day, nobody can grudge him for this, because he is doing what's best for his career. I think he hardly cares what some Utd fans think, his legacy in football will not change one bit. Infact it will better if he wins stuff here, while Messi went to farmer's league.

He's bigger than man United? Holy shite

With out even getting into the obvious nonsense of that post, the day he starts generating 600mil a year alone for the rest of his life, while maintaining a loyal fan base worldwide who never leave,........then he is never going to be bigger than the club, without even touching on the football pitch emotion aspect of it all.

People need to Wise up

It isn’t for money. He is earning good money at Juventus. It’s actually his legacy is what his move is for. He wants to win as much as Messi. City is the best chance to do that.

Yet still managed to deliver a 1/3 of our total European Cup hall. Beggars really shouldn't be choosing.

yeah fair enough

but for a large section of our fanbase he's a legend, surely you can get why they'd be pissed?

Yeh perhaps but he’s won everything anyway, does he really need to add a couple trophies at some tinpot club. He’d be better going to PSG!
You can't have old Messi and Ronaldo in the same team.

In the United legends list, he’s now behind David Bellion, Darren Gibson and Tyler Blackett

We're fecking morons if we don't try to match City's offer and offload Martial so we can afford it.

Just cause he has more social media followers than us on Instagram doesn’t mean a player is bigger than the club. Get a grip!

Ronaldo's legend status here is way overstated. Of course, he was amazing and exciting when he played for us, but in the end he didn't want to be here and spent his best years with another club.

If he moves to Man City, I would be annoyed because they are getting a legend of the sport and a great goal scorer - not because Ronaldo once played for Man Utd.

Wild to think about City's growth in the last 12 years. They'll easily be the biggest club in the country by the end of the decade - an entire generation will have watched them win for almost 20 years by then, while also playing the most attractive football in the country by miles.

They've done well
Yup, the next generation of fans would grow up watching them dominate football. Give them another 10 years and they would be a massive club, sadly. Everyone treats Chelsea as a legit club now. The only real threat to their dominance would be another state funded club.

What's worse is that we have spent on par with them for more than half a decade, and have a massive head start with our history. But terrible management has made us end up where we are.

Who is a better footballer than Ronaldo was for us? Best? Charlton? I dont know, but in the last 50 years who was?

When he played against us for RM, he received a warm welcome. I hope fans boo him when we play CIty tbh.

Imagine Cristiano pulling rank on free kicks and hitting the wall every time.
They'd spend 90 minutes arguing who is going to take free kicks and pens, then they'd do their best not to pass to each other because neither wants the other one to score more goals than them.

I dont understand the talk about him being a legend at United. He was brought in as a teen and we made him into a superstar, and then he leaves us when he hits his prime.. Can do what ever he want, hes no legend here in my opinion

Best is the only real comparison at United at least.

We're playing hardball trying to sign another midfielder, forget about affording Ronaldo. Offloading Martial won't make up for whatever City are able to offer him. Pretty sure he wouldn't pick us over City right now anyway. His priority is obviously still trophies and he has a better chance at that with City.

We have jumped in recently last minute and signed Sanchez under City's nose and got burnt. I don't think we will risk.

Also, we spent a long time convincing Cavani to stay and then if we just bench him that would be harsh.

Having said that, I would swap Martial for Ronaldo in a heart beat.

Imagine Cristiano ripping his shirt off in the next derby. You're going to need a *good* radiation suit before entering this place here:D

Alabama but always Wales in my heart
One curious thing is the stories all seem to indicate a fairly significant pay cut, potentially 50%, is needed to make the deal happen. I cannot imagine Ronaldo agreeing to that unless the deal involves an extension. I could see it being a 2 year deal which would tie in with Pep leaving in 2023 and fits with the win now mentality both have. If that is the case then City may be less inclined to bid for Kane or Haaland next summer and if so then Ronaldo will be an even bigger legend in my eyes.
