When this potential move inevitably fails to happen, is he forgiven or is the act of sending his agent to talk with Man City enough to taint his legacy?
Forgiven. Most people accept what Ronaldo is but going to City or Liverpool is just that one step too far.

Makes no difference for me, the day he left the club in his prime he was dead to me.

I think it's happening but if it doesn't, I'll sweep this under the carpet.

Law can't be compared to Ronaldo. The wages are so astronomically different, Law needed to earn a living, Ronaldo could never lift a finger again and have enough to live many lifetimes over.

Not to mention Denis Law played for City before joining United.

Based on reports that have come out so far, what makes you think it's inevitable that this is going to fail to happen?

This is revenge for those two recent United documentaries that used 1999 as the climax.

There is no legacy to tarnish. History has already consigned 2008 to an afterthought.

United signed Cantona, Ferdinand, Owen, RvP, Sanchez. It’s how it goes sometimes.

The game is the game.

No huge surprise for me. The way he wanted to leave as soon as it became viable, the way he played in the CL final of 09 when he seemed more preoccupied with being the one doing the shooting than helping the team, the way we’ve been used every time he was negotiating for a new contract… it all adds up for me, and I don’t think I can consider someone who merely saw us as a springboard as a legend. This would certainly cement that.

Ironically, he played for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter and Milan.

Still and somehow, fatty was always generally more likeable in a way.
Has he ever pretended to love all these clubs and build a PR strategy around it. To me it seems that like many brazilian players, he made it clear that the only thing that matters was having fun on and off the pitch and make enough money to have his family out of poverty.

Actually, actually, ACTUALLY, when you think about it, this is just another sign of his genuine love for United.

Some comical reactions

Ronaldo spent his last couple of seasons with us wanting to leave United was always just a stepping stone. He went on to more success since

He never really cared that much about us & is no less dislike-able than Rooney tevez or even or greatest ever players like giggs & best

it’s time to move on fanboys

you’ll get there eventually

At least this utterly sad romanticism for a player that has never really given two shits about us will end.

He's done.

Man City is a different deal.

Leeds, Liverpool, Arsenal...Man City just feels dirty as hell. Filthy. I'd also say that those players you've mentioned weren't considered legends for their clubs previously (maybe Owen?). They were good, no doubt.

It just feels really wrong.
