All I can say about this is what a waste of talent. As a youth Nat I thought EPB was star in the making either as a CB or as a 6. So smooth and great on the ball. Then he went to City and it all went tits up. Year after year of loans. Feel the same about Miazga going to Chelsea (much lower ceiling) and Steffen. Stop doing this!

In a way, I feel like these players get weeded out by the massive amount of competition in those kind of clubs. Both Chelsea and City have a bunch of other talented players in their squad, so it's not like Steffen, EPB, and Miazga can get more attention to further improve their game. It sucks for the U.S. national team, but they've made their choices.

He's an interesting option for Barcelona. He's not necessarily a bad player, and I guess he can offer more depth, but he'll be such an underwhelming signing. He also does well when he has crosses played to him, so maybe this indicates a signing to offer more tactical flexibility.

What other costs are going out though for other players from years previous? There will be a bunch of payments, bonuses as well probably, that will be getting paid now, surely?
I've just taken it that clubs will typically spread the fee in terms of them being on the books by putting it across the player's contract. So other than a few exceptions (was Maguire not up front or at least a majority?), we will be paying for other players that we've brought in over the last few years.
I don't claim to know how it works but it at least appears to me that fans really dumb these things down and literally reduce it to 2 columns - in and out - whereas it seems at least that its more complicated than that. Agent fees as well, not sure how they are paid but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a payment structure there as well. There was a list leaked of all the money Barcelona still owe clubs and its mental. Inter still owe us a large chunk for Lukaku but I'm sure people in threads like this just included his fee to Inter in the incoming for that window.
It's why I'm never sure on bet spend, it always seems a bit fishy to me and just appears a cheap way of simplifying numbers or making spend appear smaller. City are a prime example. Their fans are arguing that they've only spent a little more in terms of net than we have but when you go and look at the volume of players they constantly churn out, it's only low because they buy and sell an absolute shit ton of players. Then you have the added convenience of picking a time period that suits. So net spend over the last 5 years sounds fair but then you see the amount of players bought before that 5 year span but sold within it and despite then being sold at a loss, it gets added to the incoming for that period which helps bump it up.
Also, our wage bill is massive. Scary big. I imagine a chunk of our budget is taken up there. Rather than looking at weekly wages, I've started trying to look at the annual figure because it tells a clearer story. We will have less to spend in terms of transfers due to the wages we're carrying, I'd be very surprised if we didn't. So whilst we may not have physically parted ways with large amounts in transfer fees, there will be a host of others costs all bundled together that probably means we're not basically in profit, transfer wise.
Soz for the rambling but I'd like to know more if anyone can shed some light on it. I fully accept that I could be talking shit but this is just how I've generally taken it.
Agreed. It's so against Barcelona's style of play, but sometimes, that may be necessary, especially when teams park the bus against them.
