This is nonsense. He scored 2 goals when the Portuguese coach finally brought on a wide player who could put a decent ball into the box and then Ronaldo got himself into the middle and scored 2 headers. Him playing off the left and trying to whip in balls for assorted Portuguese midgets was a really bad tactic. In my defense, I’ve said that I don’t see him as #9 and if anything this game has proven it right when he was moved to the left the space opened up for him. That’s why I created a thread yesterday suggesting he can deliver for us by playing off the Cavani rather than being a lone striker as majority on here seem to think
On what serious basis have u drawn this glass half full bullsh1t? Peeps keep forgetting he played on the left at juve, so there is defo scope for Cavani and Ronaldo to play together in some games. He also scores goals. Lots of them. Viva Ronaldo you miserable bugger!1. His wages will stretch the frontier which agents will be able to explore when dealing with us over contract extensions in the future (we have seen this in the past already with Sanchez, Pogba, DDG). See Barca.
2. Non-existent defensive contributions will impact our shape and will put an immense pressure on our midfielders. Everyone could see the difference between Cavani and Martial last season and how it impacts our ability to press effectively from the front.
3. He can’t play with his back at all and do the hold-up as he only operates well in spaces since he’s not your classic #9.
4. In case he’ll be performing poorly Ole will shy away to change him due to his status and ego in order not to upset him, which will hinder our team.
I personally feel he’ll end up being a costly mistake for us (taking away the balance that Cavani brings) and Ole (will ultimately lose the job as a result) when you don’t look through the euphoria lenses. I may be underestimating Ronaldo greatly here but this is my feeling with respect to this transfer, having watched him play these last few seasons where he struggled to influence the games when he’s not scoring penalties or poaching goals are not on.
Can we do a poll on this?

1.) No. Ronaldo is a special case, he is one of the best players of all time, and is a marketer's dream. He's worth his wages to United just for his commercial appeal, regardless of what he does on the pitch. Just because he gets incredibly (and deserved) wages, doesn't mean we will start to see crazy increases in wages of other players on United's squad. In fact, I think United is learning a lesson in that players on obscene wages are near impossible to sell, and United will start being more careful on wages, especially those of fringe players. With Woodward gone, I fully expect United to be better in terms of negotiating fewer ridiculous contracts to players.1. When you look at posts in other threads (also moaning about Ronaldo), you start to see a theme. He’s the anti-CalThis OP deserves to be destroyed.
I think you’ll probably be right. I want it work badly but it’s pretty clear I have my doubts about how we get it all working especially against the better teams and I hope I’ve explained why in this thread. It’s not just a knee jerk. I kind of said it on the day he signed but parked it up. Rest assured I won’t be shouting shite any time he blanks, I want him to win it all with us again.I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The guys an animal and a world class footballer. That’s what matters ultimately
In just 40 mins.Well that aged poorly
Same with those who are always negative, thinking it equates to high level critical thinking. Oh, and they are objective of course.People who hold unpopular opinions always think they're insightful & interesting.
I have my doubts also, they just don’t begin and end with our better players. Now we have a glut of actual world class players our lack of cohesion and success cannot be blamed on one player, as it has been for years. We can’t have a team with Maguire, Varane, Shaw, Pogba, Bruno, Ronaldo, Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood and play like we have played in the last two games. It isn’t acceptable but I have concerns that Ronaldo won’t make much difference to those performances. What he will do more often than any other player we have is make a difference.I think you’ll probably be right. i hope he can be the catalyst for success but I’m not sure we need a poacher. We are 17th in the league for successful open play crosses since last season so we majorly need to step that up if we want to take advantage of his considerable threat in the air.
As he was more than a few times for us in his first stint here.To be fair those stats are a bit misleading. He really was anonymous for most of the game tonight, especially the first hour or so, but came up with the goods in the end.
Bahaha so true. Have to admit, I've been that guy before though.People who hold unpopular opinions always think they're insightful & interesting.
Not disagreeing with that at all.As he was more than a few times for us in his first stint here.
At the end of the day the only 'stat' in football that matters is the final score. And more often than not Ronaldo will have an effect on the final score.
Those stats are entirely consistent with being “just a poacher”. The only non-poacher looking stat is 100% long passes. Which means nothing without knowing how many.Tweet

"Just a poacher"
Yeah, he was pretty and so was Bruno. O'Shea had him in his pocket until he went off injured, then he even struggled against a 19 year old who doesn't even get a game at Norwich.Supposedly he was shite tonight according to a few on here.I'll take 35 similar performances in the league.
Completely agreeAfter all the years of Moyes, Van Gaal, Di Maria, post peak Rooney,Mourinho, Lingard and Sanchez, you'd like to think everyone who is a Manchester United fan would be super pumped about Ronaldo's return. We have a serial winner finally. Just look at Ibrahimovic's season here. If he could somewhat make a good difference, what do you think Ronaldo will do ?
This. Even if thats what he was now (and he clearly isnt if you watched his time at Juve, or even tonight for Portugal) did that stop people loving Ruud?, did that stop Ruud being an amazing striker?.Those stats are entirely consistent with being “just a poacher”. The only non-poacher looking stat is 100% long passes. Which means nothing without knowing how many.
51 touches maybe high-ish for a poacher? But Portugal had 69% posession so this also needs context. How does it compare with other Portugese players (that stayed on the pitch for 96 minutes)
Cristiano Ronaldo a poacher. Only on Internet forums. You’re gonna watch him play more often now that he signed for United so you’ll have enough time re-evaluate.Those stats are entirely consistent with being “just a poacher”. The only non-poacher looking stat is 100% long passes. Which means nothing without knowing how many.

1. I agree it’s been an issue in the past, but this guy is the goat and no other player expect to get near his salary. It’s like my telling my boss I expect to be paid the same salary as the CEO.1.
