Will give him the benefit of the doubt with this being his 1st game back in 2 months after injury and unsurprising he looked very, very rusty. Massively at fault for the goal the way he let Fredericks skip past him and square it to Lanzini.

We should look to replace him end of the season with someone that can create real competition for Shaw. This guy is not good at anything.

He DID create competition and pushed Shaw to become the player he is today.

It was his first game back, so I will grant him that. But he was pretty dire nonetheless.

With the caveat that he's been out a while, Luke Shaw is more worried about how bad it would be for United if Telles played regularly than he is about Telles outperforming him.

Watching today's game you wonder why we didn't punt on a young full back.

His opposite number for West Ham Johnson looked about three times the player (at least until Greenwood was against him)

Just far too glacial for English football. Can pass and control a ball but that's it, not physically gifted, positionally average and no ability to recover. A worry any time there is a one v one.

Let's hope he doesn't have to be used too often this season. He'll have better games but he has to be a massive worry every time he plays.

Like who? Who do you suggest for a decent price, low wages and happy to be on the sidelines for the majority of time?

Looking over my shoulder.
Being skinned by Fredericks can happen to anyone. That’s a defender that has outpaced pretty much any winger in the league, including Rashford. Telles isn’t all that quick, but it was just as much down to Sancho who should cover the space.

Nothing new we learned today about him, he's still not a good fullback at this level.

Whichever scout suggested Telles needs sacking… average player but the worst part is that he’s about as quick as Juan Mata. You cannot get away with a full back who is that sluggish in the Premier League. Far too easy for any winger to simply bully him. Get rid ASAP and preferably, don’t play him again.

He seems a step behind every other player on the park whenever he plays. Can't blame rustiness as he plays like this 8/10. Just doesn't have the stuff.

I have never seen it.
Cant remember him doing anything better ina united shirt.
He had a very impressive debut at PSG in a 3-5-2, he’s never really impressed since then though. Although he’s barely been given a chance to be fair.

It's not just this game, or simply being skinned.

Fredericks beat him from stand still position, going inside. Not running around from outside. Telles had ever been shaky 1 vs 1 against attackers. Comparing to Darmian who is also not very good in 1 vs 1. At least Darmian more often than not, prevent attackers to beat him by going inside the channel.

By beating a full back going through the inside, the defender has less chance to recover, since the attacker would be inside the penalty box by the time the defender able to catch up. In this case, you could see Telles pulled out of an attempt to challenge Fredericks later on. It also forces a shuffle between the CBs, to move and cover the zone.

Given (apparently) we bought him for his delivery, having Martial camped outside their box and no one in it doesn't really mesh.

Just don't think he's physically capable of succeeding with us. He's not fast, he's not strong, he's garbage in the air and he's a defender. Not great.

We need a new LB backup. If Shaw is injured we're truly fecked. I really hope we did insert the recall anytime clause in Williams' loan. Telles is a good footballer but he's probably as quick as the current Mata. His positioning was also horrible.

Yesterday goal basically was not even a chance by the usual standard of the PL. I can't recall the last time a defender in the PL was beaten on a 1 vs 1 that easily. And most of the first XI wingers in the PL are much quicker and better than that WH guy.

That’s FredrickS the RB and the guy basically has a jet pack strapped to his back. Don’t get it confused. Fredricks is fast but it was still piss poor defending from Telles. Only thing can say is first game back from injury is it not so hopefully will get better but he really needs to get on that Luke Shaw diet and bulk up.

I think Telles is a good player, but he just seems really out of sync in his last few appearances. I'm putting it down to not being a starter anymore and being out of sync. Let's be honest, Telles starts at most other European clubs.

Telles is much better than Williams. And i'm saying that as someone who hopes Williams has a big future.

Serious question, has he ever had more than a 6/10 game for us? It’s bizarre to think this guy was a menace in the Portuguese league, only bettered by Fernandes at the time.

Not that I recall. I think it's safe to say he's been a disappointment. Never looked like a potential starter we could trust.

Still don't get why we signed a backup corner specialist. Offers absolutely nothing at left back.

Very suspect defensively and nowhere near good enough going forward as some made out he would be.

I mean AWB get's pelters for his contribution going forward but I'd argue he's better than Telles going forward. Has he ever gained an assist for us in his time here?

His stats record is very good, with 4 assists in 25 games for United and it's not like ha has played 90 minutes in all those games. I don't rate him but his stats are good, as was Alexander Buttner's though.

Ah better than I thought, he does have a decent cross on him. Just been very underwhelming overall though.

Just a bit of a nothing player isn’t he. Like the Cleverley of left backs.

To be fair to him it's his first game back from injury, and he had some covid issues too right?

That being said, I feel like he's just going to be one of those players that'll hang about for a bit too long like a wet fart and not really do much outside of the occasional decent performance. Someone we'll inexplicably offer a new 5 year contract and at the same time moan about how hard it is to offload deadwood. A Marcos Rojo perhaps.

Yeah I agree. The funny thing is that he always seems to be playing when we only have Martial in the box. It would make more sense if he could whip in crosses for Cavani and Ronaldo.
