This right here these moments are why Ronaldo sets himself apart, that mentality , that ability to show up in the biggest moments time after time after time. Comith the hour comith the man and he is THE man in this Sport.

Different breed this guy is. Unreal.
Exactly why personally I prefer Ronaldo. He's written more Hollywood scripts than Steven Spielberg.

He has the best mindset of any human being who has ever played professional sport in my opinion.
Funny, because he doesn’t have a goal or an assist in the knockout rounds of the World Cup. The biggest tournament in football. So I’d have to say, um, no to that assertion.

In fairness he hasn’t done it against the best in several years but he’s also aging. Him and Messi haven’t been all that impressive against the top 5 teams or so in their respective leagues in recent years. But having said all this, with both these players having their best years behind them it’s nice to see them still hungry for the goals and for Ronaldo today and United fans OT was electric at the end there
He only murdered Spain in the World Cup with a hattrick in 2018 at age 33, murdered Atlético with a hattrick one year later in the CL at age 34, and got murdered in a team game against Germany where he himself murdered them at age 36 in the Euros.

He also scored another hattrick at age 34 against Switzerland in an official UEFA competition semi final, but I suppose that gets dismissed because the Swiss actually won against France in the World Cup last year.

For most other players those would be their peak career highlights.

Brady a massive odd one out
How is he? While Ronaldo, Messi, LeBron etc may follow suit….

It’s absurd he’s playing at his level at 44, don’t care how protected he is - so were Peyton and Drew - he’s the one setting the age defying standard and what needs to be done to do it, ultra nutrition, ultra strict regimes… Ronaldo and LeBron got it from Brady.

Except on the biggest stage of all, right Sporting? ;)

So in fact he’s nothing like MJ or Brady….

Which GOAT risked their LIFE by selflessly lying behind a wall?

Pele
Ronaldo
Maradona

Messi
To be fair, that very free kick could have been one of the 3 free kicks scored in global football (plus in parks and 5x5s) by going under the wall in each calendar year. Hero? Well, I’ll let you decide.

"Um" is a phrase that people use when they are attempting to gather their thoughts in face to face conversation. One of the benefits of text based communication is that you are not pressured to instantly respond to people. As such it looks very strange when you still use that crutch when trying to convey what you think online.

With that said, I don't believe your take about Ronaldo's record in the second most important football competition that he has only played a handful of games in is really worthwhile. Apologies, It is just not very relevant.

Yeah you gotta respect Brady. Never physically talented but he’s a surgeon with the football and very adept at recognising what he is facing defensively.

If he played in two sports that allow one player such insane importance… he probably would have similar outputs. Same with Messi… odd comparison really.

Objectively speaking, Messi has the edge for me.

However, in terms of clutch goals, Ronaldo has no peers. I also prefer him as I think he has the greatest mentality of any footballer I’ve seen (and up there with the likes of prime Tiger, Ali, Jordan and Djokovic) in terms of mental fortitude and absolute will to win.

Second most important football competition eh? Tell me, what is the more watched game worldwide? The World Cup
Final or the Champions League final?

Also, re the ‘um’, it’s not that serious. It was done comically because you’re getting a bit carried away.

You’ve mentioned 3 guys that are solo and one guy in a five a side sport. In an 11 a side sport winning depends a lot more on your team. That’s why even with this incredible ‘will to win’ that Ronaldo supposedly has, there are players walking around even today with more trophies than him. That’s not the case with the other guys you referenced.

Not sure what you’re disagreeing with.

Not disagreeing as such, just saying it’s hard to equate the mental fortitude of someone like Novak who does it on his own with a Ronaldo who is partly dependent on a lot of other guys doing their jobs properly. As we are quickly finding out with this Man United team.

He is GOAT for scoring clutch goals for sure. I honestly don’t remember anyone scoring as many clutch goals as him.

That was Ronaldo’s 12th career 90th minute UCL goal double the second most which is 6.

He’s inevitable

That one of the worst Spain sides of the last 15 years and a mediocre germany side Switzerland

as far as truly elite teams he hasn’t really shown up for the most part, I’d rate City better than any team he has scored against in the last 3 years or so. And even then, Messi is in similar company with Ronaldo where their scoring against the best clubs in the world just isn’t really a thing for them despite Messi’s goal yesterday.

Benzema is probably the best big game player of recent times in that he tends to score against any elite team at a ridiculous rate.

He scored against inter, against Milan, against Napoli, against atlético, against Germany but sure he does not score against big teams. He scored vs the the top 4 clubs in last years and year prior Série A. He scored vs United in the group stage and against Barcelona as well in the groups.

Like come on That’s a silly take

Not at all.He blanked in 8 of his 12 matches against Italy’s top 6 teams last season, plus the two scoreless games in the UCL R16 against Porto.

And Napoli and inter can’t even get to the CL knockout round. I’m talking genuinely great teams. United were in Europa league and last year that was a painfully mediocre Barca side. And for the record, Messi is similar as well in recent heats against top 6 sides despite the worldie Against City.

but Ronaldo will have plenty more opportunities in the EPL against Chelsea,
Pool and City.

It’s a group match.
I’m aware of that. What’s your point? I was saying that protecting a two goal lead to get three points is easier than protecting a one goal lead. So a second goal matters.

Oh so he is a American football player.

No man, I have no idea about American player:lol:
Some people don’t care about American sport so it’s understandable. But he is one of the most famous sportspeople in the world…..

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but who is Brady?
It's not a stupid question - Americans always think their sports have some supreme global audience. Besides, he is the equivalent of Ryan Giggs at best.

We will have to wait and see how he does against those teams. The older you are, the harder it is v top sides. But if he doesn’t score it won’t necessarily be his fault, maybe more that United will have been unable to create clear cut chances against better defences. If the chances are there he will take them, that much should be obvious by now.

He’s really not. One of their sports does in fact have a global audience, basketball. The NFL and MLB do not have as much worldwide reach though.

I never saw his ads or even his videos in social media man.
Like I know LeBron James because his videos always pop up in Insta reels or Facebook feeds.
This Brady dude never heard man.
Lebron is likely more of a global figure because I think basketball is a more popular sport worldwide. If anything, this is bad news for the NFL, because it means that their most decorated and accomplished player is not that well known outside of America.

One scored a goal that didn't matter and one scored a winning goal that almost broke the internet.
Don't go overboard...

Whilst Ronaldo's goal obviously mattered more, Messi's was a truly great goal scored against a team of the highest calibre.
