Oh well, can't pretend I'm a fan but hope he works out. This club can't afford another managerial failure.

At least he's one of the few managers who could say he finished ahead of Klopp and Pep in the same season.

I like Poch. The job he did at Spurs is still massively underrated, hence the manager merry go round they’ve been on since he left.

I’d be more excited by ETH, but I’d still be behind this. Plays his academy lads, likeable bloke, good football at Southampton and Spurs.

Poch is pretty soft, as a character, a bit like Solskjaer, and that even before assessing his potential as a top coach, which is clearly high. I still think managers need a nasty extra gear to win trophies and survive at the top level, though.

Pochettino would be the first manager we’ve hired since Fergie, that I would be genuinely excited about. Feeling we are getting a top coach, with tactical acumen relevant to the current era of football.

Moyes - Nobody was excited about this. The hope was he would provide a sense of continuity for the reigning champions. But he ripped out the whole back room team from day one, and despite being a good manager, proved to be a small club coach and a massive club.

Van Gaal - I think everyone felt that this was a radical departure away from the past. A methodical tactician of yesteryear. A man I have tremendous affection for and who is a legend of the game. But the feeling was always that his time had passed, despite a late Renaissance at the World Cup. So it proved.

Mourinho - Another step in a completely different direction, and another rebuild. Came with a history of success but also questions about whether the game had now moved beyond him. And again, so it proved. Create a toxic atmosphere.

Solksjaer - Mr Feel Good. Was seen as a plucky, happy guy to breathe some positivity back into the squad. Overachieved versus his expectations and found himself on full time. Only manager since Fergie to finish top four in back to back seasons but always had question marks over his experience and tactical acumen. Oversaw another rebuild.

Looking at that list, Poch would be the first where I felt genuinely excited about what he would bring.
So you would want him over Ten Hag then, terrified he ends up replacing Pep at City in next couple of years.

Ten Hag is potential, he could easily go to a big club in another league and flop. Pochettino is also a risk in the sense he hasn't won anything but to me at least, he is less of a risk than Ten Hag.

So basically it's going to be Pochettino regardless, might as well just get if over with and appoint him now and hope Ten Hag is still available in 18 months.
Yeah just accept the fact this is something our board need to finally get out of their system

If he can't handle the big egos at psg then he won't be able to cut it here.

Rangnick interim then Ten Hag easily
That would be a dream. I don’t dislike Poch, he’s a competent manager which will improve us no doubt but the bar is so high currently we need someone with a very high ceiling, which I feel he doesn’t have.

This the guy who bottled a one horse league with a stacked squad? Also the way he left Spurs has me worried, he ran the players into the ground.

Prefer the ETH gamble, plus I'm bald so we have to stick together.

I don’t rate the job he did at Spurs that highly

I’m pretty sure most managers could take a top 6 side and make them a top 4 side if you give them a 30 a season striker

Incredibly basic view there, but OK

Shouldn't be a problem at United. Our players have done feck all running for years. About time we started playing the pressing game.

I genuinely wish I could fast forward to the appointment after the couple of seasons wasted on Pochettino but knowing our board it'll probably just align nicely with fecking Southgate finishing up with England.

Haha, I’ve pretty much said the same thing in my post above and then scrolled to find yours. It seems that it’s rather evident then.

Pochettino is my first choice after Mourinho but you have to wonder if he were that good, why was he jobless for 13 months and his time so far at PSG has been pretty underwhelming. Doesn't have that fear factor as a top elite manager and strike to me as a rich man's Wenger. Still currently under contract at PSG and an elite club like PSG won't let someone go unless he isn't that great after all. I'd have preferred Zidane and Ten Hag but seems like neither are attainable now.

Yeah, there’s a lot to like about Poch. He also improves clubs quickly. At least he did when he joined Southampton and Spurs.

He definitely is not soft, he is extremely demanding of players which is most likely a trait he got from Bielsa.

Well one picked up more points per game than the other and that wasn’t the German. So yeah, Tuchel did a worse job.
2.05 ppg for Tuchel, 2.08 for Pochettino, that's negligeable. When you look at the teams Tuchel had to line up at the beginning of the season because of COVID, no he didn't do a worse job.

I've given up hope of ever seeing us have a top quality manager again, the fact the club has such a boner for Pochettino and seriously considered Rodgers killed any remaining belief I'll see United be anything but inferiors to City and Liverpool for at bare minimum another decade.

No, Ten Hag is my top choice. But I still think Poch is a good choice.
+1

One thing that concerns me with Poch is that his PSG side had maybe one good 45 mins in the 3 times he played Pep.

He's coming with his full side to City this week, let's see how it goes.

Pochettino is the man! Will improve us 10 times better than past few dross managers. Tactically solid and adaptable. Will make us win things again. Might also get us a fee good PSG players- Donnaruma?
