Theatres 10th December, Netflix 24th.

Looks like a relatively crude metaphor for the current climate crisis. Really strong cast and production I’m sure it will be excellent.

I thought it was fine but less than the sum of its parts when you consider the talent involved. The script was so messy and tried to cram too much in and despite that, still felt a half hour too long.

I really liked it, saying that: in before everyone moans at Hollywood preaching to them.

I haven’t finished it yet but so far I feel like it could’ve been really good but it’s quite shite, sadly. Don’t like the way it’s filmed and the constant talking over each other is annoying as hell.

Not sure if I’ll get around to finishing it but it seems to have mostly positive feedback here so probably will give it a go.

It made me feel quite powerless, as an obvious allegory on climate change it cuts a little close to the bone.

Enjoyed it. Like how they mixed the serious with the ridiculous and somehow the ridiculous was more realistic than the serious.

7/10.

Enjoyed it, although probably more so for the message it is trying to give as opposed to the quality of the film itself.

I thought it was pretty funny, but something about it didn't quite land

Meryl Streep & Jonah Hill were great

I actually thought it was really good, at times you really didn’t know which direction the film would take as it was really a perfect blend of comedy and seriousness. The comedy between Jonah and Jennifer I thought was great and the casting was great also.

Scarily I thought some of the dark comedy was actually believable, Meryl actually reminded me of Boris. They could have maybe gone into the science a tad more.

It’s probably the best film I’ve watched in 2021 - 8/10.

With that cast and the talent behind the film you'd expect an Oscar contender...but definitely not that. I realise it's the point, but it felt like punching down the whole time - and the lack of subtelty was kind of grating. But - maybe - McKay is trying to get on board some of the 'idiots' who would miss a more nuanced take.

The performances were pretty amazing though. I cannot believe how convincing Kate Blanchett is in that role. And Leo too. I have no idea what Rylance was up to, and it seemed like he couldn't speak properly with thoes teeth. Which is probably a reference I'm missing.

Definitely a must-see film just for being able to discuss reactions with people.
The missus and I absolutely loved the idea of having a friendly dinner at the end of the world, discussing mundanity with people you care about. Oh and that Meryl forgot her son.

Thought it was really good! Loved the ridiculous surrealism at time despite it feeling like most of that would actually happen unfortunately. Lots of parallels between the climate crisis and also with Covid.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
It’s a brilliant high concept idea that fails to properly land in my opinion. It’s not particularly funny and it just has zero subtlety in satirising Trump and co with absolutely nothing new or interesting to say. It’s incredibly hard to satirise that stuff - people quite literally die with COVID still believing it’s a myth - the reality is already as mad as anything you can write which is why I wouldn’t have been quite so overt about it. It’s a shame because the cast are all great and I loved The Big Short and felt Vice was pretty good - maybe they could all go and have another bash at it? It still held my interest but I think it missed more than it hit.

The recurring callback of the general asking for money for the water and sweets did make me laugh though. Reminded me of Seinfeld when they were making their pilot and the Kramer actor steals the raisins at the audition!

Looked quite nice but it really felt like it could've been significantly better.

Possibly Zuckerberg? At least I think he has the weirdest facial expressions & speech patterns. Although it's obviously a mix between him, Jobs, Elon etc.

Was it the only film you have watched in 2021?

I turned it off halfway through. It probably didn’t deserve that but I was expecting way more given the cast. I thought the writing was bland and they wasted what could have been a pretty decent concept.

Disclaimer. I had also been drinking for about 8 hours before watching.

Going into it, if you don't know who Adam McKay is and some of his films, then you were going to be "disappointed".

But because the overall plot wasn't the point, it was the satire, dark humor and who the characters were trying to emulate. It is a cross between The Social Effect and Idiocracy.

Many things about the film were overblown to be made clear that many things look absurd and stupid. Because it is, which is sad, scary, and down right laughable....and guess what, in time, those beliefs have consequences.

Just finished watching it. fecking hilarious! Loved every minute of it. Great performances from Lawrence, Hill, Streep and Di Caprio. Cate Blanchett looked smoking hot throughout too wow. Good watch.

It was alright. Starred off badly but grew on me towards the end, though its trying to do far too much and ended up feeling like a bunch of stars trying to out-act each other.

Good metaphor for climate change I felt.

Solid film, will probably never watch again but solid film nonetheless.

Armageddon is straight up rubbish.
Yeah, but Armageddon fought the asteroid with the Freedom and the Independence - cause obviously the asteroid was going to take both away from the US.

(Somehow, these names always bothered me the.most about that film )

The person who cut the final film was a psychopath. The editing and sequencing was so bad, it seriously distracted form the plot. Jennifer in a mullet…. also distracting.
