Perfect result.

Villa easily the better side, and will be so fired up for Saturday, plus Utd with at least one more extra game.

Another day and Villa could've gotten something. Really disciplined performance tonight, just let the chances slip through their fingers.

Felt like you were the better team but lacked composure in the final 3rd. I do like how you’re playing under Gerrard.
Hopefully Coutinho is around for Saturday.

Missed opportunity tonight for sure. We gave away a really poor goal in so many ways but were largely better team afterwards. Genuinely didn't release how bad Man. United are at passing the ball these days, just gave it endlessly away all night.

Rashford is garbage. Him and Dele Ali will have a similar career path.

Don't think he got anything wrong really?
Shaw did two bookable fouls in a minute (wasting time stopping McGinn taking a throw in and then took out Cash 30 seconds later) and about six in total before he did that lunge on our of ours on the edge of the box so he's been watching the Pep tactical fouling videos nicely.

Have to say half of your guys just don't look like they're enjoying football currently, Shaw still looks like he hasn't got over the euros and there's no way Rashford is enjoying his football currently with his demeanor on the pitch. All a bit odd to an outsider.

Let's not paint this as some kind of smash and grab. We had countless times with Greenwood and Rashford having digs in or just outside the box. Wouldn't have taken too much for one or two to go in.

Not A particularly great performance of course but saw it out decently.

I think it's random to try and blame the defeat on the ref. Just wasn't your day. United got plenty of yellows and there was nothing missed you can really moan at.

You played well but we only had ourselves to blame. Inviting pressure with sloppy football and failing to control the midfield.

Yeah I'm not surprised the club is unsettled. The manager and both head coaches have left in the space of a few weeks. All of which were quite popular.

United made Villa look great. Don't get me wrong, they played well, but our inability to control the middle of the park puts the back 4 and forwards under pressure. That breeds sloppy passes and silly errors.

That said United still should have had another goal and squandered some pretty simple chances at the end of the first half and later on in the second.

Interested to see what you put out on Saturday, McTominay is suspended and Matic is much less mobile these days even though at his peak he was much superior DM.

Said before in short term I think it would make sense to drop one of the four forwards and just play standard 4-3-3 with say Lingard or Van Beek as more energetic AM.

You matched us up midway through second half and got more control of game and created some chances on the break.

I expect us to lose at the weekend if I'm honest.

Your idea isn't a bad one. He might go 3-4-3 again.

One more extra game

What exactly is the point of football club if not playing games.

I know there's been a softening of the handball rule this season but come on....last season players were having balls blasted at them and pens were given and now Watmore practically volleyballed the cross for 1-1.

Amazed that was allowed to stand and Taylor didn't even go to the monitor.

That’s an awful miss from Fernandes. Had plenty to aim at. Still think United will find the winner.

Yes, we all should aspire to be like arsenal. Not qualify for Europe, not try to win trophies, play as few games as we can.
Arsenal have won trophies more recent than Utd sunshine ;)

.....and you're doing a very good impression it would seem.

Boro look knackered here. They'll be lucky to get it to penalties.

Neither could Boro's tbf. He was running around like a hero but did nothing in that shootout.
There was barely any effort from either keeper on some of those pens. Was a bit weird to watch.

Mata has been a United player for 9 years. It blows my mind every time I think about that.

Yeah I was a bit surprised to see him running around playing for United today. He's 33 so doesn't have much playing time left.

He made the same amount of appearances in the CL for us in 2.5 years as he did in his 9 years at United. Been basically a bench player for 5 seasons now.
