Dominant today. His type of game, and was well up for it.

Another solid performance.

Seriously needs a better player next to him than Fred to unleash his full potential

Absolutely no need for the likes of Haidara if he keeps doing like that. Need someone to partner him now.

Outstanding all game. About the only positive performance from the first half and kept it going in the second.

Looked every bit the natural number 6.

I thought he had a very good game. Nice pass between the lines to Dalot for his shot that was just wide, good run and shot that was saved in the 2nd half, pass forwards for Ronaldo's sensational chest pass in the build up to Greenwood's goal, then won possession in the build up for Rashford's goal.

How people can’t see a player in him is beyond me.
Because he will be poor in the next game. He has made this a very consistent theme. He has a good game and then people praise him to the ends of the universe, and then his next game is almost guaranteed to be bad and they are brought back to earth again.

It happens far too often. It is just too predictable.

In the end, I think people still need to remember Brentford are a low-tier club. He is a decent player, but that is all.

Fantastic tonight, let's hope he can keep this form and bring consistency into his game. Get rid of the 1 good game every 10 games, and he's actually an alright player.

People will eventually realise he’s a good player.
I don't think people can't see it, it's just that he mostly doesn't show it. He was absolute dogwater in that first half but in the 2nd he was flawless in everything he did & every decision he made. He'll get his plaudits when he shows more 2nd half and less 1st half.

They don't want to admit it, that flaws and all he is a pretty good player.

Too invested in pining for identikit Dutch attacking midfielder version 700.

Probably the best I’ve seen him. Is this him being coached?

His poor games are grossly exaggerated on here. He doesn’t play like this every week no, but people bizarrely wait for the first chance to jump on him.

He played well tonight but you will see a pattern in the quality of the opposition when he does play well. It’s pretty much always awful opposition. He has to bring that in bigger games against better sides.

We missed McTominay at Villa Park. We'll miss him if he's injured his back.

He's the only player we have who can fulfil the tactical role that Ralf's system demands: Stepping in at key moments in midfield, winning the ball and carrying it forward.

Very good tonight. However, makes you worry that if he's out for a while that we'll be reliant on old man Matic.

we are blindsided by his once in a while 8/10 performances and ignored that position, we need a quality players in that position

Its just a matter of time cafe goes wild when he has a poor game

Think that's his best game for us yet. Needs to be more consistent though, he needs to build on this performance

Bloody brilliant. Think he is getting consistent now under Ralf. His performances has taken a level above.

Just loved it. They couldn’t take the ball out of him.

It's going to be interesting if we manage to get one or two players who are upgrades on him and Fred.

I agree, he needs to play like this way more, but I would have him and Mejbri rotate that position and focus on that deeper midfield partner.

His mentality would push Mejbri on to not drop his performances if he ever was ahead of him and he also has the mentality to be relied on as a squad player.

Fantastic. Ball winning was excellent, as well as driving forward after winning it. Kante does that and the commentators won’t stop talking about it for half a season. Granted he’s yet to do that in big games for us.

His lack of passing (forward through the lines) ability really does hurt us, but it’s so rare to find a player who can do everything. There was lots of stories of Carrick and McKenna trying to work on him as a 6, I’m not sure it’s something that’s easily learnt at 24, but even if he can increase that skill a little bit he’s going to be a very useful player.

Don’t understand all the first half criticism. I thought he was pretty solid throughout and grew as the game went on.

Broke the lines with his ball carrying several times and won the ball back often.

Man of the match for me.
