I only have SwitchPeople (sometimes rightly) criticize its combat as being a little weak but the world, the lore, the atmosphere and characters all make up for it. I hated it at first and didn't get what the fuss was about until a certain story mission just blew my mind.
It's one of the best games I've ever played in terms of making you think about the rights and wrongs of a situation as things are rarely black and white. Also the DLC is the best i've ever played, better than the main story in some ways. Play it
It's on the Switch and although I can't confirm, i've heard it runs surprisingly wellSorry. Bloodporn. That sounds horrendous just typing it

I thought it couldn't get worse. I was wrong. Ffs. It would take a brave person to google that. Or just a sick and twisted one.Sorry. Bloodporn. That sounds horrendous just typing it

Hmm... I've only been playing indie games recently but I think I'll add it to the list. Haven't played a AAA adventure game since TLOU way back when it was released. It's on the Switch and although I can't confirm, i've heard it runs surprisingly well

I've started twice and stopped really early. My initial gripe was the controls and how light they felt. Saying that, I still fully intend to immerse myself into it and TW3 is top of my to do list once I've wriggled free of my woman and bought my own house.People (sometimes rightly) criticize its combat as being a little weak but the world, the lore, the atmosphere and characters all make up for it. Are you mad?You googled it?
Not really, i didn't and still haven't played either 1 or 2.Hmm... I've only been playing indie games recently but I think I'll add it to the list. Haven't played a AAA adventure game since TLOU way back when it was released.
Does it matter that I've not played parts 1&2?
You googled it?
Sweet. I will add to my list thanks. I didn't even know it's on the Switch! Not really, i didn't and still haven't played either 1 or 2.
I’d recommend just watching a story playthrough of TW2 so you have a frame of reference, but it’s not necessary.Sweet. I will add to my list thanks. I didn't even know it's on the Switch!
Will do. Thank you kind sir.I’d recommend just watching a story playthrough of TW2 so you have a frame of reference, but it’s not necessary.
The game can be played by itself, but TW2 is a very good game on its own, so it would be nice if you play it first.Does it matter that I've not played parts 1&2?
Nope.Does it matter that I've not played parts 1&2?
I can whoop yer ass in Tekken 7 for a few round as a consolation.I don't think I'll be able to convince people to vote for Alex Kidd this time
4 of my all-time favourites made the final, but my number 1 favourite game didn't (Tekken)
It's definitely a you thing. But you don’t really have that insight because you have grown up with those games by your own admission. Having only started on the PS1/PS2 when I was young I have absolutely no desire to go back and play those older games just as I don’t really enjoy those old movie classics that are so highly rated. Maybe that’s just a generational thing or perhaps it’s a me issue being unable to put up with older graphics/gameplay etc.
Admittedly I've not played Tekken 7 as much as in my heyday (Tekken 3 & Tekken Tag Tournament) but I wouldn't be easy to beat considering I used to place decently in quite a few tournaments back in the day! I even kicked Ryan Hart's ass one time (I'm sure you might have heard of him), although he was probably pissing around as I was never on his level!I can whoop yer ass in Tekken 7 for a few round as a consolation.
My 5 year old loves messing around on Donkey Kong. Not sure why but it seems to be her favourite game alongside Smash Bros. Ultimate. It's definitely a you thing.
I have several students whose ages range from 11-16 who appreciate and in some cases adore classics, especially Nintendo titles.
It does help that a lot of those classics are available easily via Nintendo Online subscriptions. But they certainly hold up today. SMB and the Donkey Kong Country games are a lot better than most similar platform games released today, for example.
Great graphics do not make a great game. They can enhance your experience, sure, but to limit yourself to games that are pretty means you're missing on some modern and classic greats. I'm assuming you've avoided modern classics like Undertale or Spelunky because they look old (intentionally in the formers case)?
I hope my daughter's tastes are as immaculate when she's old enough. My 5 year old loves messing around on Donkey Kong. Not sure why but it seems to be her favourite game alongside Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Sounds like you are much better than me honestlyAdmittedly I've not played Tekken 7 as much as in my heyday (Tekken 3 & Tekken Tag Tournament) but I wouldn't be easy to beat considering I used to place decently in quite a few tournaments back in the day! I remember going to Singapore a few years ago and challenging some dude (who had his girl sit on his lap whilst playing ). He was giving it all the mouth before we played but then I whooped his ass 10 times in a row and he got up, kicked the machine and stormed off .
My reactions aren't what they used to be but if I had a PS4/5 now, I would have definitely been up for the challenge!
Hwoarang was my dude btw!
Shaheen! Yeah, he was a decent character. As I said, I'm not the player I used to be but I was still able to handle myself against these young whipper snappers online!Sounds like you are much better than me honestly
I mostly played my mates, but none of em. Were a challenge really. I reached a sort of high online rank in Tekken 7, but nowhere near any sort of elite tournament level. I also haven't played in half a year. I played a lot of Julia and that new Arab dude in Tekken 7. I forgot his name
Tekken is the one game that none of the kids can beat me atShaheen! Yeah, he was a decent character. As I said, I'm not the player I used to be but I was still able to handle myself against these young whipper snappers online!
Would love to have played with ya mate! The closest I get to my Tekken fix is playing Kazuya on Smash Ultimate!Tekken is the one game that none of the kids can beat me at
Been playing since T1 and can give most people a thrashing! Even at my old age.
Noted. Thanks.1. Super Mario World
2. Super Mario Bros 3
3. World of Warcraft
4. Super Mario Bros
5. Tetris
6. Counterstrike 1.6
7. Witcher 3
8. Mass Effect
@Dirty Schwein updated list
I have a bet with my wife. She claims our son will beat me in Street Fighter or Tekken before he's 12.Tekken is the one game that none of the kids can beat me at

You'll smash him. Your wife doesn't understand how competitive gaming can getI have a bet with my wife. She claims our son will beat me in Street Fighter or Tekken before he's 12.
No fecking way.
What would be your personal top 10?TBH I'm not sure what we should expect from a list compiled from selections of a cross-section of about 20 people, some of whom may not have played early gen games/or will have missed platforms. Thank you @Dirty Schwein for the work you've put into this, it's certainly been an interesting exercise!
Lists are always weird anyway, trying to maintain reverence for old games that had influence and balance that against recent games that are far more advanced and offer so much more is a fecking nightmare. I would pick 1 game on the selection available as something I'd put in my personal top ten, but it's not my top ten so what does that matter?
One thing I really like, no Breath of the Wild. So overrated.
That's not what this thread is about! What would be your personal top 10?
No but if you don't mind? That's not what this thread is about!
I was born in 1986 and started gaming around 1993. I have no more than two hours of playtime across the entire Mario franchise.I was born in 1988 - starting playing games in the 90s and I cannot imagine anyone who started gaming during the 80s and the entire 90s at the very least without playing EACH of those marios for a huge amount of time.
Samantha Fox Strip PokerNo but if you don't mind?
The remake was OK but absolutely nothing close to the level of the original.Final Fantasy 7 is the greatest game of all time and the saddest thing is the modern generation are going to think the remake is what the game was
I reckon sometimes, simplicity means a lot. Mario had that in its gameplay with a funny character/mascot, a memorable theme etc. It had all the ingredients to succeed and it did. That's not to say it was a bad game, it wasn't. The game still holds up today (although there will always be a minority that don't get it).I was born in 1986 and started gaming around 1993. I was honestly surprised when I found out they were that popular. Back in the day they seemed so one-dimensional and boring compared to something like Wolfenstein 3D. After spending ten minutes jumping on mushrooms I always wanted to do something else instead.
And there was stuff like Centurion: Defender of Rome! Now that was a great game from that era. It even had chariot racing in addition to massive battles and a taxation system.
I never played the remake. I just assumed it was the same game with better graphics? The remake was OK but absolutely nothing close to the level of the original.
The remake focuses on just the first few hours of the original and is very different in terms of gameplay. They even changed some plot points.I never played the remake. I just assumed it was the same game with better graphics?
Not sure why they would do that. The original was perfect, minus the graphics of course. The remake focuses on just the first few hours of the original and is very different in terms of gameplay. They even changed some plot points.
I enjoyed the remake but the original is just many magnitudes better.
