How close were they to Vlahovic before Juventus got him? Arsenal fan at work was convinced he was joining Arsenal
I have a lot of Arsenal fans at work and they were all convinced they were signing Isak today. Something about his car being registered in London.

There's muppets everywhere.

Letting Auba go was definitely the right move. Leaving the no.9 spot entirely to Lacazette and Nketiah certainly wasn’t.

It’s madness, honestly. I heard they scored a grand total of 1 goal in January. Who is scoring them goals for the rest of the season when they are desperately pushing for 4th place?

What a weird window for them. Probably the fan base that deserves to be the most angry with their club this window.

It's frustrating we didn't sign a striker. But Arsenal fan's need to remember our history and support the team.

We've had many seasons where we signed either unknown or nobody at all yet still went on to exceed expectations.

I don't think our business have been all that bad this January.

Fiorentina was fine with the offer but the player couldn't care less and already had an agreement with Juventus. It also helped that Spurs invited themselves to the table gifting them between 25 and 60M for players they didn't want anymore. Also his agent seems to be a Raiola wannabe and pocketed 10/12M (!?)

He was also in London the last few days on a break with Januzaj, so the transfer muppets were putting 2+2 together and making 5.

Every time something bad happens with Arsenal, I find myself drawn to this:

Arteta loves to get into a tiff with many players. Surprising how Arsenal fans don't find odd with that.

Might be why they get so many red cards. They're all wound up most of the time, well that and Xhaka playing for Arsenal.

It is very odd tbf. Especially for a younger manager who you'd expect would use that 'youthful' relatability to keep players on side.

I’m surprised some people are praising Arsenal for getting rid of Auba on a free, especially when it’s been reported that they will be contributing to his wages until the summer.

The whole thing has been handled terribly and they have panicked to get him off the books in the player has manufactured and forced through himself!

Auba still has massive value to the club and was under contract. Sponsorships, shirt sales, player transfer value (he was still worth something).

The whole thing has been fudged.

Why do you keep insisting the player forced it through himself?

Well he flew to Barcelona without permission and the club hadn’t agreed anything for starters?

The whole thing was pushed through by Auba
Being banished by the club, not training with the first team, & not being allowed to go to Dubai, was not pushed through by Auba though. If that doesn't tell a player he's finished, I don't know what does?

Why did he go to Barca without permission then? To see his family or to push through a deal?

Of course he went to make the deal, because he heard Arsenal and Barcelona were negotiating, & he knew Arsenal wanted him out so a deal could be done. Arsenal were apparently offering him out to all the big clubs, they wanted rid, they'd have took the Saudi offer if he would have left for it but he wanted to stay in Europe.

Do you think Arteta would have wanted to integrate him back in the squad after not allowing him to come to Dubai? They let Wilshere go there even! If not, do you think they'd want him on the sidelines picking up £350k a week, and the constant distraction of questions at every press conference like Ozil was?

Finishing 8th consecutively and letting a star player go on free. Not many managers get this privilege.

They could be with zero strikers by this summer. Laca and Nketiah contracts both end in the summer. Unbelievable Geoff.

By the way, for ages on here and even very recently I've seen lots of posts saying Utd should have a good clear out, start again, get rid of the bloat, the deadwood, the over paid under achievers, the problem members of the squad.

They've said it about Arsenal as well, that that's what they need. Arsenal fans have said it as well, its Bern said for years.

Yet when a club actually does it, they get pelters for it.

Usually it’s get rid of the dead wood and replace them with better players, no?

So that’s Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, Sanchez and Auba all going on fees from the club..

Anyone who doesn’t see this as staggering mismanagement is deluded!

I think Arsenal have 21 players in the squad right now, including the third GK. Three of them are out of contract this summer, so they'd have 18 players. That would be a small squad even if they were all great. They aren't, and the good ones haven't achieved anything yet.

That leaves very little margin of error for next summer; they'd need a bunch of solid, successful transfers, otherwise the squad will be far too thin for all the competitions.

Or, more likely, the squad being thin will be used as an explanation/justification for failing to achieve targets, even though it would be Arteta's third full season at this point.

Is there a single player in that list below the age of 25 ?

They've already been replaced in the main, heres who we let go in January either on loan or permanent.

Maitland-Niles - 2 starts
Chambers - 2 starts
Mari - 2 starts
Kolasinac - 1 start
Balogun - 1 start

All bar Maitland-Niles hasn't started a game since August.

Now Aubameyang is different, we had an issue, we wanted him out, we wanted a striker in but failed to do so. That's our main gamble, and I appreciate that. I'd have liked a striker in, even on loan. That's where we might leave ourselves short.

We only in 1 competition, we have 17 games left of our season, we've not played in 10 days or so and don't play for another 10 days.

It was famously said by Willian that Arteta had a 'plan' to win the Champions League in three years.

Right now it doesn't look like he has a plan to field a team twice a week.

Moving Auba on was the right move. That’s £25-27m saved for a rapidly declining asset who will only cause issues. The only dumb bit was Arsenal agreeing to pay his wages up until the summer (if true).

That might be more about him going off to Barca and them not having time to negotiate a better deal. They probably thought it was worth just getting rid for squad harmony.

He doesn't really need to for the foreseeable. We've got 2 games in February & 3 in March scheduled just now.
