Waiting for United game to me is like waiting for a doctors appointment or an interview - just nervous, rather not be there, fearing the worst hoping for the best etc. Just zero enjoyment or excitement for me.

At my ripe old age I think I need to step away for a while and if we can’t beat Burnley tonight it may be as good a time as any!

At least my heart (and wife) will appreciate it.
Good analogy but if you’re age is as ripe as mine you would of experienced some pretty barren years through the 70s and 80s.

The problem I have is that I can’t remember how painful and disappointing it felt during those times even though I was probably more invested in United as in terms of match going but I was also a child and had Star Wars to distract me and as a teenager/young man was just getting high and having fun so maybe it didn’t matter as much as it does now.

My wife hates football and gets frustrated when I cancel social engagements to watch a game but she wouldn’t want it any other way as it would probably change me as a person and weirdly make me more miserable than when I watch United these days.

Good times will return, I just hope to be alive when they do but in the meantime I try not kick the dog or take it too personally.

    Good luck.

I know that all of our league matches these days are essentially must win matches, but we really, really need a win here today. A response to the cup knockout with our full team, and to build some confidence before Atletico.
Atletico is in two weeks right?

Good reason for it. Every performance seems to be slightly better than the last one. If we can create 30 shots , with the ever growing control, we should start winning these games with more conviction.
We might have more goalless shots than goalless corners before we win another match.

Cheers and no I’m not that old, turning 44 soon. My strong memories start from the 1985 FA cup final, my dad supported so I just followed suit although my older brother chose Everton!

Yeah being a kid, so many other distractions but I was football mad and even more so through my partying days. It’s not even the fact we are not winning titles that gets me down now, it is just the whole state of the club from the ownership downwards. We have become a meme and a continuous pun to the football world and so many (simple to us fans) changes can be made to change this but they won’t happen due to the fact we are a successful business and sports brand not a team.

As long as we make money and have money people in charge, the off field footballing ineptitude will continue to spill on to the pitch and we will continue to be as we are, a decent team nowhere near winning titles or CLs.

I just pray for a new ownership and outlook as if not then it’s very conceivable that we could go another 26 years without title (as from 2013). Unfortunately my own frustration and anger gets the best of me so my constant negativity towards the club and football can’t be good for my health.

Ah well maybe we’ll have a resounding victory tonight and it will be the start of something positive.

I wasn't a child and the reason you can't remember was because it didn't seem as bad as it is now.

From The Doc's appointment and the Board's backing of him in late '72 onwards, United appeared to be a well-run organisation with a Board that was generally intent on doing what it took to make the team successful. Sure there were mistakes along the way, but most of the decisions (manager appointments and dismissals, player recruitment) appeared to be the right ones. The frustration, which continued well into the SAF era, was almost entirely attributable to United's perennially awful luck with injuries.

The fact that we still seem to be a shambles off the field over eight years after SAF retired does make it increasingly hard to believe that the current lot will ever get their act together. I've not given up yet on Arnold's appointment leading to a Better Way, but have to say I'm sceptical...

So much doom and gloom here. We're forgetting we already beat Burnley quite comfortably not too long ago, and we actually would have spanked Boro if our forwards weren't wearing cement boots. Our football has been getting better, especially when in possession.

I think we'll win quite comfortably. Burnley are going down IMO.

Football doesn't work like that unfortunately. Previous results mean nothing.

We need to be able to keep the ball properly, not give away stupid sloppy fouls and let them bombard us with corners and free kicks.

It's more the "I can't be bothered to watch" sentiment, as if we were awaiting a royal spanking from City or Bayern.

Irrespective of the turbulent nature of our season, this is a game we should be winning. Play like we did against Boro (but actually finish a couple of our dozen chances) and we should be fine.

Anyone else just not excited by football anymore?
I’m really not. Winning used to at least mean something and you felt like it was progress towards something. I have no idea what this club is currently trying to progress towards. I have no idea which players are actually interested in staying at this club beyond the summer and I have difficulty identifying which players I actually want to stay.

I think for myself, it's more the behaviour of players that has come out in the last couple of weeks that's really putting me off. Don't get me wrong, there's sick fecks in every walk of life, and players have probably always been like this, but I really feel no motivation to cheer and celebrate these utter low life's lately.

Think I'm almost certainly in the minority right now but I'm looking forward to this game tonight as well as the next few weeks. I feel our performance level over recent fixtures is generally trending upwards, even if results haven't gone as smoothly as we'd like.

Lapses in concentration have hurt us, as well as some god awful finishing against Boro, but I think the team is slowly starting to look like more of a cohesive unit despite all the noise off the pitch. Ultimately I feel if we can replicate our performance level from Friday, I don't see us losing the game without Burnley having an Anthony Taylor sized slice of luck.

Having said all that, the result is what's important tonight. Get points on the board and let Arsenal and Spurs worry about catching up through their games in hand.

we should win this handy enough. If we show up and really put the work in there aren’t many teams outside the top 4 that’ll scare us. The problem is while are finally catching up to the best teams in terms of work rate (hallelujah!) we are still miles behind in terms of execution and dynamic. This Ronadlo playing 9 every week is getting old fast.

Easily my least favorite non-rival in the League. Every year I hope they get relegated. The manager is such blow-hard punk.
Don't agree with that. Dyche is actually pretty clever and had massively over achived keeping a small club like Burnley in the PL for so long.

I think till kick off , it is very hard to get excited about United Playing. Exactly opposite of how it was at the start of the season. The games wouldn't come soon enough.

Now the team has sucked so much joy out of watching them, it is a chore. But come kicjk off the buzz kicks in . Most of the time it's Deja-vu. But that's what it has come up to.!

Read my above post before you make a tit of yourself. It's nothing to do with winning.
I get you. The general antics of players is turning you off the sport. Fair enough. I can't say that it didn't leave me wondering a bit what type of cnuts we're cheering on every week.

Burnley are desperate for points so hopefully they commit more players forward than usual, rather than hoping for a 1-0 set-piece jobba.

In saying that, I'm still going to predict a 1-0, albeit to United. A bit of Pogba magic to unlock the defence.

That's basically how we beat them last time at Turf Moor. I'd be happy with that, 3 points matter the most.

You are a hard man to please my friend. 30 shots and 22 in the box not good enough for you?

Don't get me wrong, we faded badly after Pogba went off and Sancho was knackered, before then though, I thought we were brilliant.
I wouldn't say we were brilliant. If you think we were brilliant, you haven't seen good football in a long time. I certainly think our passing has improved but the pace at which we play is too damn slow and our offensive players still don't do a lot one v one. Our inter-passing while attacking is not so great, we don't run onto a through ball as often as you think. Do not even think about our set-plays, we suck at them. There is so much Ralf has to work on and for the time he's been here, I think he's done a good job because it is not his fault if the players are not up to the mark. We have talented players for sure but none of them are hungry enough. We say Ronaldo and Bruno are world class but these 2 world class players lose the ball or shoot like headless chickens. We still need a couple of good midfielders, a strong striker and Erik Ten Hag :P

Looking forward to tonight. Expecting us to kick on from the Boro game which despite popular opinion I was actually quite happy with. No chance we waste as many opportunities if we keep creating like we did the other day so cautiously optimistic about tonight.

    Expecting a few goals

We already know that Rangnick-ball works against Burnley.

In fact, they're the only team it has worked against during the 11 games he's been in charge.

I'm fairly confident about this one. More worried about Southampton on Saturday.

I'm way more excited now than I was under Ole because it feels like we're actually building slowly towards something/we are seeing different players and players dropped/subbed for form reasons.

What is nice is Ragnick will often say something we've worked on at training and then we see it start taking effect. Pre Borough he said we'd done a lot more work on the offensive side in possession (which implies his main focus since coming in has been stopping the leaking goals) and it looked like there was a real difference albeit against inferior opposition. Tonight is a big test to see if we can dominate a PL team who will sit back.

Man when he scored vs Burnley and Fulham, I really thought we were going to win the league. Then he got injured and the wheels came off.

    I am going for a 2-1 win.
